It used to be the [wikipeelia=General_Disscussion]24 Hour Rule[/wikipeelia]. Was there a particular reason it was changed?

Everyone knows that the proper answer is 42, anyway.

There were comments that 24 hours was too fast, and people wanted to make sure everyone got a chance to post.  So, it was changed to 72 hours from last post & 24 hours to post a new pic once a winner was chosen.

Internet Rule #42¾: If you're talking about whether the thread is dragging on too long, it's dragging on too long.

A couple of people kept on posting every day, and I wanted to wait until that stopped.

So now I choose ... hobbitboy!

Sounds reasonable, but how about this: keep the time at 72 hours, but starting counting from when the picture is posted, not 72 hours after the last caption is.

What do you think? Is three days enough for the whole thing?

From what I've seen, posts start to taper off after ~ 2 days.  So, 3 days from picture posting might work.

Or just don't take the 72 hour rule so literally. That rule is there for the players, the framgrab poster can call the winner whenever they like.

maybe the 72 hour rule is, if the winner doesn't post a framegrab with in 72 hours, an honorable mention has to do it, that makes sense to me, also... that took too long lol @ Fnord

That's the 24 hour rule (and anyone can do it, not just hon mentions). The 72 hour rule is to prevent the thread being highjacked mid game.

Not really. The 24 hour rule was put into place to prevent the thread from dying whilst waiting for a winner who may have taken a PEEL hiatus. This rule was subsequently abused by people who wanted to post their own pic in that they would lurk until 24 hours after the latest caption and highjack the thread with their chosen pic, denying the previous winner a chance to actually pick somebody. As such it was decided to increase the period of inactivity required to do this, whilst keeping the original 24 hour in place for the period after a winner has been chosen. We're just trying to be fair.
