Anyway, I think that Futurama, just like The Simpsons could easily stay good for 8 seasons. The fact it's had so many set backs so early in it's life is highly unjust. Futurama is quite different to The Simpsons; it uses more storyline, emotion and has better depth. For those reasons, and others, I think that Futurama could probably get to Season 15 before it started to get like how The Simpsons are now. In Futurama there is a whole universe to explore, and many types of plots that The Simpsons could never pull off. Of course I want Futurama to stop before that point in its life, but stopping it at Season 4 is extremely premature.

Self-irony is a noble thing, if you can't laugh at yourself, how can you expect others to? But really, this is getting out of hand for the Simpsons, they used that idea before. Yes they're running out of good ideas everybody know that, but why don't they simply close the show instead of throwing the fact back at us?
I wan't Futurama to "go on forever and ever", to quote Sarge from the TechTv interview, but I'm realistic enough to know that in the end even Futurama will run out of ideas. I hope (and that's assuming we succeed with our Save Futurama-campaign) that the show will be closed before it sink to same level Simpsons have stooped to.
But as I see it, Futurama have a stronger cast of core characters. There is emotion, laughter, happiness, sadness, hopes, dreams, you-name-it. The characters have depth, substance, we have gotten to know them, we care for them. This gives them better longevity, IMNSHO. It allows the writers to let the characters react to situations, rather than mold the characters to the situation, simply because the reactions is determined by their character. On Simpsons it's always a game to see what traits they'd grated onto Homer to fit him into the story etc.
The Futurama universe also offers bigger opportunities for stories, there is always a new planet, a new race, and it's not an easy way out, it's part of the premise of the show. It's about a group of spacefaring cargo delivers in the 31st century, and that opens up for better stories than "Americas most dysfunctional family".
Errm, a point to this rant? Give me a few minutes. :shuffles some paper, searches the trashbin:: Ah, here. Futurama haven't even begun to tell it's stories, there are a whole universe left unexplored. This could easily lend itself to 4-5 more seasons, easily. Maybe even more, and hopefully when the well is dry, the serie will be closed with dignity, and a proper finale. But right now is way to soon.

Well, potentially a show like Futurama can go on and on forever because it doesn't have an deep underlying storyline, say like a soap opera or anime series. The writers are pressured to come up with new ideas instead of finding a way to close the series. So Futurama can't have a 'definite' ending, except perhaps in that musical episode planned for the end of the next season, which comes close to one. That one should be saved until the very end, I think.
I strongly agree with Teral. Futurama has a cast of unique, well-developed characters from the start. Matt Groening did this on purpose because he remembers how The Simpsons started, all crude and begging to be polished to near-perfection. Was Smithers supposed to be black? (Actually, that was a coloring mistake done by the animators.) But everything in Futurama was already pre-planned.
The Simpsons have become more of a parody of itself, like I've mentioned countless times before. Remember that clip in "Behind the Laughter" where Lisa says "The Simpsons are going to Delaware" and Homer says "This'll be our last season"? That's a perfect example. The "Delaware" saying was used in Simpsons Tall Tales. I think it was deserving of them to add another clip show, cuz I think it's better than the crap they do now.

I still enjoy The Simpsons and I am glad that they didn't stop after 8 Seasons. There have been some bumps in the road (Season 11 and most of 12) but it seems to be straightening back out now. Last night's "I am Furious (Yellow)" was an excellent episode I thought. Seeing how good The Simpsons still are after 13 years makes me sad because I wonder how good Futurama could have been. There is something to say about going out while on top, but I prefer to get each and every episode I can. Which is why I would have loved to see Futurama continue on as long as The Simpsons have.

I like The Simpsons but I think I still watch them just for tradition. The last season sucked but Ithink that it had his good moments like Simpsons Safari(Im kidding). But if Futurama gets renewes I hope that they like to season 10 or something like that because I would not like to see a good show turn bad.

Welcome to PEEL Mr. Potter I still watch The Simpsons, but like you, it's mainly out of habit. When the series finally ends I would like to say I've seen every episode at least once. Some of the new episodes are ok, and "Trilogy Of Error" was great, but most are pretty painful to watch.
