Ok, now did anyone see the last simpson episode (it was styupid and pointless, but my point will come). It was at the end were the show was about to do the credits, when they sung a song, it went like "the simpsons will never end, we have storie's for years, you'll never stop the simpsons, we got stories for years. We will show this and that" some stupid and pointless stuff comes up more...

But what make me mad is it's true yet.... futurama wont get the time of day but the simpsons can have 2-3 episodes that are recycled clip shows a Year! BUt yet Futurama doesn't do that... Why won't let matt get the same exposure with futurama. It would bring a good tear in my eye when futurama becomes like that (after 6-7 seasons of coarse).

Just thought to get that off my chest when I heard that song. Your thoughts...

Welcome to PEEL, FryBender3000!

Although I'd like to see Futurama carry on for a few more years, and long enough to do  a couple of clip shows, I never want to see it last long enough to degenerate to the level of recent Simpsons' episodes.  Contrary to what the song says, they ran out of stories four or five years ago, since then it's been crap.

Aye, there's the rub. If it could stay as good as it is, I'd watch Futurama forever--I'd even haunt a house with a good satellite dish after I croaked. But it can't stay that way, can it? I rant and rave--as we all should--about the premature doom of Futurama, but there are worse fates, and Homer can tell you that better than anyone right now.

Yeah, but he registered six months before you.

Anyway, I think that Futurama, just like The Simpsons could easily stay good for 8 seasons. The fact it's had so many set backs so early in it's life is highly unjust. Futurama is quite different to The Simpsons; it uses more storyline, emotion and has better depth. For those reasons, and others, I think that Futurama could probably get to Season 15 before it started to get like how The Simpsons are now. In Futurama there is a whole universe to explore, and many types of plots that The Simpsons could never pull off. Of course I want Futurama to stop before that point in its life, but stopping it at Season 4 is extremely premature.

Self-irony is a noble thing, if you can't laugh at yourself, how can you expect others to? But really, this is getting out of hand for the Simpsons, they used that idea before. Yes they're running out of good ideas everybody know that, but why don't they simply close the show instead of throwing the fact back at us?

I wan't Futurama to "go on forever and ever", to quote Sarge from the TechTv interview, but I'm realistic enough to know that in the end even Futurama will run out of ideas. I hope (and that's assuming we succeed with our Save Futurama-campaign) that the show will be closed before it sink to same level Simpsons have stooped to.

But as I see it, Futurama have a stronger cast of core characters. There is emotion, laughter, happiness, sadness, hopes, dreams, you-name-it. The characters have depth, substance, we have gotten to know them, we care for them. This gives them better longevity, IMNSHO. It allows the writers to let the characters react to situations, rather than mold the characters to the situation, simply because the reactions is determined by their character. On Simpsons it's always a game to see what traits they'd grated onto Homer to fit him into the story etc.

The Futurama universe also offers bigger opportunities for stories, there is always a new planet, a new race, and it's not an easy way out, it's part of the premise of the show. It's about a group of spacefaring cargo delivers in the 31st century, and that opens up for better stories than "Americas most dysfunctional family".

Errm, a point to this rant? Give me a few minutes. :shuffles some paper, searches the trashbin:: Ah, here. Futurama haven't even begun to tell it's stories, there are a whole universe left unexplored. This could easily lend itself to 4-5 more seasons, easily. Maybe even more, and hopefully when the well is dry, the serie will be closed with dignity, and a proper finale. But right now is way to soon.

Even if the simpsons episodes aren't as good as they used to be, i try not to let that bother me.  I still love the show, and i liked that clip show too.  If a show is the longest running comedy ever, i think it deserves a couple of those episodes.

The Simpsons are obviously more important to Fox, But if Groenig moves to a different network with Futurama, he has to take the Simpsons with him.

fortunately I don't think that will be the case.  I think (and hope) that if Fox ditch it then someone else will have the sense to buy it up.  After all it shouldn't cost too much for the rights if Fox are dumping it.

Anyway, I agree with the first guy who posted... its bullshit, but to be honest, I'm getting tired of rant posts about futurama vs. the simpsons. We all know Futurama gets shafted, the Simpsons is strung along on razor thin plot lines, but there is little we can do...

Hey, the Simpsons haven't had a clip show in like... 4 years. But, Futurama should be on weekdays at like 6:30. Even though there are only around 50 episodes, the Simpsons have like the same amount of re-runs that FOX actually shows.
P.S.: I'm still waiting for that episode to air where Marge becomes a robot.

Literally? wow, they really are scraping the bottom of the barrel. Now they're puting Futurama plots on The Simpsons, and all because Fox is killing the wrong show.

Um, Otis. In "Gump Roast" they had a song at the end, parodying "We Didn't Start the Fire" with all the Simpsons moments. It also said that they'd have plenty of stories to come. And they did this mockingly when saying that Marge becomes a robot, Moe gets a cell phone, Bart owning a bear and Grampa, Patty and Selma marrying each other. Duh, Marge won't become a robot, it was a joke.

Well, potentially a show like Futurama can go on and on forever because it doesn't have an deep underlying storyline, say like a soap opera or anime series. The writers are pressured to come up with new ideas instead of finding a way to close the series. So Futurama can't have a 'definite' ending, except perhaps in that musical episode planned for the end of the next season, which comes close to one. That one should be saved until the very end, I think.

I strongly agree with Teral. Futurama has a cast of unique, well-developed characters from the start. Matt Groening did this on purpose because he remembers how The Simpsons started, all crude and begging to be polished to near-perfection. Was Smithers supposed to be black? (Actually, that was a coloring mistake done by the animators.) But everything in Futurama was already pre-planned.

The Simpsons have become more of a parody of itself, like I've mentioned countless times before. Remember that clip in "Behind the Laughter" where Lisa says "The Simpsons are going to Delaware" and Homer says "This'll be our last season"? That's a perfect example. The "Delaware" saying was used in Simpsons Tall Tales. I think it was deserving of them to add another clip show, cuz I think it's better than the crap they do now.

I still enjoy The Simpsons and I am glad that they didn't stop after 8 Seasons.  There have been some bumps in the road (Season 11 and most of 12) but it seems to be straightening back out now.  Last night's "I am Furious (Yellow)" was an excellent episode I thought.  Seeing how good The Simpsons still are after 13 years makes me sad because I wonder how good Futurama could have been.  There is something to say about going out while on top, but I prefer to get each and every episode I can.  Which is why I would have loved to see Futurama continue on as long as The Simpsons have.

I like The Simpsons but I think I still watch them just for tradition. The last season sucked but Ithink that it had his good moments like Simpsons Safari(Im kidding). But if Futurama gets renewes I hope that they like to season 10 or something like that because I would not like to see a good show turn bad.

Welcome to PEEL Mr. Potter :)

I still watch The Simpsons, but like you, it's mainly out of habit. When the series finally ends I would like to say I've seen every episode at least once. Some of the new episodes are ok, and "Trilogy Of Error" was great, but most are pretty painful to watch.

The Simpsons hasn't got worse, really. It has just changed beyond recognition. In the first 2 serieses (89-91) the characters had different personalities based on a real american family. Homer was stupid but cared and loved his family. Marge was the overworked but caring wife. Lisa was the smart insecure one, and Bart was the hilarious tearaway. The episodes were based around the characters relationships with each other and the viewers could relate to a character. Some of the episodes were really moving such as the Blowfish one and Bart gets an F.

Now The Simpsons characters are all really annoying with the exception of Bart. Marge is stupid beyond belief and takes Homer's ignorance and abuse without saying anything. Homer has an annoyingly camp voice and never does anything interesting or worthwhile, and Lisa is an over-moral cow. I can't relate to the characters any more. However the show has so much more humour in it now. The jokes are actually funny, but the storylines are ridiculous and unbelievable. Im 17 and I have grown out of comedy like that.

Futurama has possibility, agreed. I wouldn't mind it going in a Friends-esque direction where character's storylines carry on from one episode to the next. There are so many storylines that havent been explored yet. Such as Fry and Leela finally making it together. Zapp Brannigan finally getting what he deserves. Leela and the relationship with her parents. And lets bring back Flexo!! But instead we get crud like Pharaoh to Remember.
