The mods probably just haven't been around to close this thread and to create a new one. Just keep on topic in this thread and stop mentioning every three posts "zomg, we're on page ##," because it's just a veiled postcount++ that brings the thread closer and closer to PEEL's breaking point. Rapid posting (and killing pagewidths...) is an easy way to break PEEL, and it's happened many times before.

It's prolly a record for an On-Topic thread. In other news...

Again, 'nother day, 'nother bonus material from one of the episodes. Today's countdown revealed us the plot of "Cold Warriors" and gave us an image of a guinea pig in a spacesuit.

Quote from: Matt Tobey
Today's Countdown item comes from the upcoming episode Cold Warriors which finds Fry inadvertently reintroducing the common cold to 31st-century mankind. That's all well and good, but what really matters is it features a guinea pig in a spacesuit, which is cuter than a marmot in a tuxedo and almost as adorable as a chinchilla in a tutu.

There are a few things I must note.
1. After this, there are only two more episodes left for Matt Tobey to preview, "Overclockwise" and "Reincarnation". I don't know how he is going to get 17 bits of material from this episode, and those two episodes (I guess he could get quite a bit from "Reincarnation", considering the episode is done in three different animation styles.
2. While the official comics may take inspiration from the series, it seems that according to the plot synopsis of "Cold Warriors", it seems we have now gotten our answer to how canonical are the comics as the plot was already done in "Cure for the Common Clod".
3. I forget... or maybe there never was one.
4. What is it with Futurama and guinea pigs? Guinea pigs have appeared in "Anthology of Interest (I)", part 1, and in the chillworthy "Bender's Big Score".

Finally the Cold Warriors plot! :D

And I don't recall many Guinea Pigs being in Futurama. Damn my memory! :laff:

That's a great episode premise. I'm actually really looking forwards to Cold Warriors now that I know what it's about.

I am now compelled to reread "The Cure for the Common Clod," if only because I forget most of the plot. I wonder if the writers intend to canonize the comics (if there will be a callback or anything to this particular issue), if they are totally ignorant of what has been done in the comics (unlikely, since Patric Verrone wrote "The Cure for the Common Clod," and for all we know wrote "Cold Warriors"), or if this is an older idea from the series' original run that was co-opted by the comics when the show was canceled.

That said, I'm excited to see how this one plays out. Hopefully, it's not some really awful re-imagining of the story from the comics--though that seems unlikely, since I don't remember a space guinea pig from "The Cure for the Common Clod."

So, in the episode Cold Warriors, I heard on the CC website that Fry will get a cold, and spread it around the 30th century.  And no, there was no guinea pig in the comic book, "Cure For the Common Clod", which happens to be one of my favorites!

So, Fry will get a cold in this episode?  I've always thought this episode would be a spoof of Mad Max.   Anyway, this sounds like it could be a fun episode!

There was some pic or anything that said that Dan Vebber wrote Cold Warriors, the Infosphere states that it is so as well.

I really, really, really doubt that the comics are ever going to be considered even a tiny, little bit canon.

Debunked!

They are a tiny little bit canon as of 4ACV06, when Fry's interest in Space Boy comics, first seen years earlier in issue #001, was televised. See The Infosphere's Space Boy article. Other trivial, blink-and-miss-it stuff may have come through too.

Mostly though, it isn't, some has even been superseded by episode/film content. Much of Common Clod will be soon. It was a good issue, worthy of it's main plot being reused as an episode. That said, it'll be quite disappointing to have to say that the comic was better than the episode.

There's only two other things I'm aware of that even carried over between comics, it's possible something else did, but I'm not sure there may be something else that went into the episodes too.

Having been away (scout camp!) for almost a week, I come home for plenty of awesome Futurama news. My first thought is that I'm extremely excited about Cold Warriors, it sounds like a great plot. Not having read any Futurama comics (except for the Simpsons-Futurama cross over) I find difficulty following the discussion of The Cure for the Common Clod, but I always assumed that the comics were non-canon, but set in the same universe. Sort of like a weird Twilight Zone episode.

What is it with Futurama and guinea pigs? Guinea pigs have appeared in "Anthology of Interest (I)", part 1, and in the chillworthy "Bender's Big Score".

You missed Bender's mentioned dead guinea pig in 6ACV02.

Putting guinea pigs aside...a new storyboard from the episode, where Leela gets whacked over the head with a broom.

Maybe she gets whacked over the head because she carries the Cold Germ or they're all being quaranteened and they won't let her in.

And we finally get an image from "Overclockwise". The interior of Bender's head. The description reads "inside transfigured Bender's head" so at least we have more info on what the plot could be about.

Cool!  Bender looks funny in that!  Thank god that won't be the series finale!   I got a question, In Fry Am The Eggman, is it going to be a King Kong senario?

I think issues #49 and #51 should be real episodes!

Also I checked the link to the Twitter page, (I'm on Twitter, BTW) that Danny there posted.  I think it's cool how they're going to collaborate the comics with the episodes.

WWII video game Fry. Now this episode's getting even more interesting. Though this picture looks more like something that would come out of "Reincarnation".
