It's prolly a record for an On-Topic thread. In other news... Again, 'nother day, 'nother bonus material from one of the episodes. Today's countdown revealed us the plot of "Cold Warriors" and gave us an image of a guinea pig in a spacesuit. Today's Countdown item comes from the upcoming episode Cold Warriors which finds Fry inadvertently reintroducing the common cold to 31st-century mankind. That's all well and good, but what really matters is it features a guinea pig in a spacesuit, which is cuter than a marmot in a tuxedo and almost as adorable as a chinchilla in a tutu. There are a few things I must note. 1. After this, there are only two more episodes left for Matt Tobey to preview, "Overclockwise" and "Reincarnation". I don't know how he is going to get 17 bits of material from this episode, and those two episodes (I guess he could get quite a bit from "Reincarnation", considering the episode is done in three different animation styles. 2. While the official comics may take inspiration from the series, it seems that according to the plot synopsis of "Cold Warriors", it seems we have now gotten our answer to how canonical are the comics as the plot was already done in "Cure for the Common Clod". 3. I forget... or maybe there never was one. 4. What is it with Futurama and guinea pigs? Guinea pigs have appeared in "Anthology of Interest (I)", part 1, and in the chillworthy "Bender's Big Score".

I really, really, really doubt that the comics are ever going to be considered even a tiny, little bit canon.
Debunked! They are a tiny little bit canon as of 4ACV06, when Fry's interest in Space Boy comics, first seen years earlier in issue #001, was televised. See The Infosphere's Space Boy article. Other trivial, blink-and-miss-it stuff may have come through too. Mostly though, it isn't, some has even been superseded by episode/film content. Much of Common Clod will be soon. It was a good issue, worthy of it's main plot being reused as an episode. That said, it'll be quite disappointing to have to say that the comic was better than the episode.

Having been away (scout camp!) for almost a week, I come home for plenty of awesome Futurama news. My first thought is that I'm extremely excited about Cold Warriors, it sounds like a great plot. Not having read any Futurama comics (except for the Simpsons-Futurama cross over) I find difficulty following the discussion of The Cure for the Common Clod, but I always assumed that the comics were non-canon, but set in the same universe. Sort of like a weird Twilight Zone episode. What is it with Futurama and guinea pigs? Guinea pigs have appeared in "Anthology of Interest (I)", part 1, and in the chillworthy "Bender's Big Score".
You missed Bender's mentioned dead guinea pig in 6ACV02.
