Don't know if it's anything big, but Eric Rogers just put on Twitter:

'Wanted to get more details before I said anything here, but am so happy to announce I'm the new staff writer at #Futurama. #dreamscometrue'

Sweet.  :D

If it is 26 then that's great, a few years ago this would have seemed so unlikely. I love that Futurama's finally getting the chance it always deserved!...

Very interesting. I guess they're getting some more budget now that the show's a returning hit. I'll be interested in seeing The Silence of the Clamps before I make judgement whether it's a good hire, but I enjoyed his work on AOI1 and with the comics.

I'm a little surprised that this new season is based entirely off profits in America (and maybe Canada?), but so much more money could have been made in other countries both on TV networks and from DVD sales...

Maurice LaMarche said Silence of the Clamps is his favourite episode of the upcoming season, sounds good. =P

I really don't understand why Futurama series 6 hasn't aired in the UK yet. Even 'Bobs Burgers' has aired in the uk for crying out loud

Me too :O_o:! Dammit, why don't they air (cable) it in the UK/EU?
And it wouldn't even make much effort in the UK because it has not to be synchronized!
But another news, the German speaker of Fry said, they'd be on the synchro. I don't care that much about
the German synchro because I always watch it in English (from the DVDs), but it'd be nice to have one because I like that feeling sitting in front of the TV, taping it, and watching the 'real' first cabling. (I etablish 'cabling' because I have cable ;))

If you want to see them on the telly, get a HDMI cable. I don't see the problem here. If Comedy Central shows them in the UK, they'll still plaster a logo over it.

Invest in a Region 1 or Region-free DVD or Bluray player if it matters so much.

I agree with the idea that the UK will show the Season Six when all 26 episodes have aired in the US. It certainly makes sense from a business point of view. Whatever happens, I'm pretty sure we'll at least get them at some point though. While it's a pain to wait so long, I think it's better for episode quality if the season is split into two (but we'll see on this one of course).

It'll be interesting to see how they handle a box set release here though, as each one goes by "Season #" rather than "Volume #". Be kind of confusing to just skip a season, and I'm not sure how they can get around it unless they name the first 13 episodes "Season Five" and the second batch "Season Six"...

So has the current order (last year and this years episodes) already made back it's production costs? even though only half the episodes have shown, and only in the US? I would assume Comedy Central would wait until the order turned a profit before making another order, right?

They rarely wait that long, they speculate based on what they know if they will eventually turn a profit.  If they are confident that it will, they will order a new season.

You see, in order to waste as little money as possible, the production company have to be in full swing as constant as possible.  Think of it as a light bulb.  Use less energy when on or off than when being turned on and off.  So now that season 6 has been produced, the writing finished, the voice acting done, the animation in the bag, there is little the production company can do but wait.  Unless they get renewed.

I was hoping they would officially announce it today.

To tell you the truth, up until now, I did have a weird feeling in the back of my head that this was just a really believable rumor that would turn out not being true.

It's not April 1st yet, no need to have worried. Nice to have it official, but I was a believer anyway...

You're right about the production company, perhaps, but to paraphrase Morbo, "LIGHT BULBS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY." *twitch* *twitch*

The second half of the new batch will be:
Production season 7
Volume 8
Broadcast Season 10 (if including movies as a season)
Broadcast Season 9 (if not, as CC thinks; they count the movies as "Season 0" I believe)

Twentieth noted that “Futurama” has also done well in social media, with its Facebook fan base growing from 1 million “likes” before its return last summer to more than 11 million “likes” currently, ranking it as one of Facebook’s top television sites.

that's good to hear.
