New episode titles:

Fry Am the Egg Man

and

Yo Leela Leela

The first is clearly a reference to the song 'I Am the Walrus' by The Beatles, not so sure about the latter.

I don't think so. When I saw the title, I thought of "E.G.G.M.A.N" from Sonic Adventure 2. It even says that line in it.

Well, yeah. But I think it may well be a Beatles reference, They usually go by the most widespread reference.

Do not judge a book by its title, lol, no that is pretty bad.

The episodes may be great. I'm just talking in terms of titles only.
That darn katz I thought was a lousy title, but a great episode.

@Jarvio, that so true, "That Darn Katz"? Better have named it "I Can Haz Catz". (Oh, wait. That's a terrible name. Well... :D).

I am sure that this is a reference to the song, "I Am the Walrus".  That song -- and its line "I am the egg-man" -- are FAR more well-known than some random videogame would ever be.  The creators of Futurama are of an age where that song would have been part of their culture growing up, whereas the Sonic copy would have been aimed at their children or even grandchildren.  I doubt that they are even aware of it -- I certainly wasn't until I read this thread, whereas almost every person in my generation is quite familiar with the Beatles song.

Guess where that game got that line from?

I wouldn't be so certain the Futurama writers aren't aware of modern games, even for children.  They seem to be pretty on the ball, since they are sort of nerdy themselves.

Well, yeah... They are updated on that "part" about gaming, but it just seems like they would choose the beatles reference.

They're aware of gaming but I doubt they're so up on it that they know about the song E.G.G.M.A.N. from Sonic Adventure 2.

And as Svip said, the use of the line was itself, a reference to I Am the Walrus.

True, but who would want to remember that awful (Sonic) song?

They're really nerdy, but I'm guessing that (even with gaming) it's probably in directions other than a mediocre game sequel from ten years ago.  (This comment, of course, isn't directed at you specifically, Svip.)

And to the post above, I only remember the the song (which, I agree, does suck) cause back in the day, I played that game nonstop.

Oh and, one last thing, to those saying this episode titles are terrible, you said a lot about the first 13 episodes of this production season.  Do you still think so?  Or does knowing the content of these episodes make the titles make somewhat sense?

I'm fairly sure this Broadcast S7 DVD set will be called Volume 5 (possibly part one). Since there is no Volume 5 (since the movies were never released as such (closest they came is a set called "Futurama: The Specials" that wasn't released in the U.S.)), it would be confusing to less dedicated fans (the ones who can't spout off production numbers) to see a jump from 4 to 6 with no 5 in-between.

I willing to contest that.  Let's bet our honour!

Am I the only one who's a little worried that we won't get commentary on every episode? Because that would be quite a shame--the less I get to hear of DXC's voice, the more bummed out I am.

volume 5:

# Deleted and Extended Scenes
# "Bend it Like Bender"
# "Previously On..."
# "Fry's Crudely-Drawn Comic Book - The Crudely Animated Edition"
# "Behind the Fungus: Makin' a Hit Song"
# "The Prisoner of Benda" Table Read
# "Fry's Crudely Drawn Comic Book Alternate Design"
# Bender Audio Outtake

sounds awesome. i love me some bonus material. also, anyone have a clue as to what 'bend it like bender' will be?

The box art looks great, I hope that they would make the rest like them if there's going to be a renewal. (With other characters of course). I'm just hoping for lots of commentaries and nice bonus material, but if there isn't commentaries on all... well, I'll just go back to the commentary for Season 3 & 4 that I haven't heard. :( or perhaps :D.

Oh yeah, no I got that.  My quoting you was basically just a springboard to address the people who seem to think they would honestly make a reference to that particular game (if they did, they would have done so years ago and probably as a broader satirical bit on that series, or maybe similar children's games in general).  Not to mention stating how awful that song was.  Because, egads, was it f^%$ing terrible.  The only reason it isn't still blocked from my memory is that it was brought up here.  I owned that game and would still have never made a connection to that song based on the episode title.

And so (again not to you but to others here): there's definitely a lot of video game references scattered throughout the series, but they tend to be more respected games, and usually not as minute as an individual song (not even really a main theme) from a rather old game that was pretty widely regarded as mediocre even at the time.

Um, but anyway, I'm surprised some people aren't liking the Volume 5 cover art.  I think it might be my favorite of all the Futurama covers.  So badass.

I think part of the objection (or surprise, anyway) might be that the previous DVD covers, while not necessarily always depicting specific moments from the episodes within, were all still drawn in the usual style of the show (pretty much the same way the art style is in the actual episodes), while this cover is obviously not.
