@bend-err: Could you catch a screengrab or three of the scene where they fetch Orson Welles' head from the museum?

Frank Welker has a cameo in that scene -- his head's on the shelf just above Orson Welles (and very appropriately placed, I must say). But even viewing the rerun I didn't get a chance to see what other heads were on the shelves.

And I don't have the luxury of fancy-schmancy DVR.

Has the head museum always been alphabetized? I don't think it has, but I'm still impressed.

Also: Isn't Dawn Wells Mary Anny from Gilligan's Island? Who'da thunk she'd end up sharing such coveted shelf space with the spokesman for Paul Masson wine?

That is probably Paul Weller from The Jam and The Style Council and now solo singer.

edit Mercury Prize winner for album of the year as well.

Indubitably. The hair is a dead give away.

Peter Weller was Robocop, isn't that reason enough? In fact, I'd bet he was probably there for the sole reason that he played Buckaroo Banzai. That film is a cult classic among sci-fi geeks (and a favorite between myself and my dad - but that's beside the point) - there are even background gags referencing the show on Star Trek: The Next Generation (like the mention of Yoyodyne on the Enterprise's dedication plaque - it can't be read by the TV viewer, but it's even acknowledged in the official, canonical Star Trek Encyclopedia that it was built by Yoyodyne).

There need to be more Buckaroo Banzai references on Futurama.

Wouldn't any mention of Yoyodyne more likely be a reference to The Crying of Lot 49, its point of origin?

Good point, monkey boy!

Further thought: A Futurama where they return to the Eighth Dimension would be cool; just think of what they could do with the animation! And I'm sure some of the cast from AoBB is still around ...

The subject matter of this episode wasn't as original or exciting as it could have been, and I did cringe at Fry's self-sacrifice (it still is a heroic and touching thing for him to do, but it does seem to be getting old at this point), but it was a pleasant enough episode nonetheless. And...that's pretty much all I have to say about it. Transmission over!

I really liked this episode for the many little things, as usual. When Leela was dressed up as Princess Leia and of course Bender thought he was "Every nerd's fantasy", we all know that Leela dressed as Leia is the true Nerd's fantasy.
Lrrr and Ndnd's relationship absolutely cracks me up every time. She is not the boss of you. I am the boss of you.

I'd give this one a 8/10. Not great but very good.

I know this is not what you meant, but I think if she had dressed as slave girl Leia, Leela would have walked away with the costume prize.  Also, I agree with your assessment, but I'm waffling between giving it a 7 or an 8.

I loved the episode but I can see that is not so among the peelers. I think Lrr is cool, so I say it was a 10. When fry got hit by the teleporting gun, at the time I did not realize it was the teleporter. I was like, you have to be kidding me, Fry is dead once again. I think I said something along the lines of "What the Hell".

Wow, actually a pretty good episode. The first few minutes come as close to classic Futurama as I've seen, and the rest of the episode isn't bad either. Surprised at the relatively low ratings.

7.5/10

I'd probably give this one a 7/10.

It's not really bad, it just doesn't really give us any reason to care for Lrrr, and it feels like we're supposed to. Also, the ending is a bit over-dramatic. Fry "dying" shouldn't really be happening in these kind of filler episodes, because it lessens the impact of the ones like "Fun on a Bun".

I really like the start though.
