In the book I am currently reading--about presidents and the men who love (to assassinate) them--Chester A. Arthur is repeatedly mentioned. And every time I see his name, I think about his habit of, and sadness about, falling down. I had to make a note to that effect in the margins on one page to satisfy my nerdy impulses and keep myself from going mad.

Today in RE we were learning about the Jewish Passover tradition, and apparently when they have finished with the traditions, they all say "Next year in Jerusalem!" Reminded me of Bender in The Series Has Landed straight away.

This segment of lyrics from the Abandoned Pools song 'Suburban Muse' really reminds me of Parasites Lost...

A thousand tiny lies take the place of you
I've seen it too
In all the things you do
It lives inside of you
A parasite or two

The entire song is about two people liking each other, so thanks to that one tiny segment, the whole song reminds me of Fry and Leela. Freela. Ly.

This headline caught my Futurama-eye, I love the ongoing owl infestation problems of the future.   It's just going to get worse from here on.....

When Owls Attack: Boxer Saves Tiny Dog From Rare Aerial Assault

“Suddenly I realized an owl had its talons sunk into the dog ,” Evans said. “When they got to the door we were able to separate Sadie from the owl and my wife pinned the owl to the ground with her foot as I ran to get some gloves.”

As Evans worked to free the bird’s deadly talons from the dog's fur, the owl turned its head all the way around and fixed Evans and his wife with an intense stare.

“It really freaked us out.”

When the police arrived, the perpetrator had not yet left the premises. “The owl stood outside the sliding glass door looking at the smaller dog as if he wasn’t leaving without it," a local police offer recalled.

Yes, but there are rats in the scene, too, and one is being eaten by an owl.  Perhaps specially bred owls were introduced to keep the rats in check, then got out of control.  There are many precedents.

But they're like bread crumbs. Stinky, running bread crumbs.

What I mean is rats are to bread crumbs as owls are to pigeons.

Another thing that reminds me of Futurama: I was playing a Wheel of Fortune app on my iPod earlier today and one of the puzzles was Velour Jacket. Zapp's entire uniform is basically just a jacket, so I'd say it's just about the same thing.

I woke up before the sun was out this morning. I turned on my Xbox 360, which is near my bed. I had an empty glass (one of the Coke glasses they sell at McDonald's) directly in front of the power button where the light is on the Xbox. The design of the glass caused the light to fan out in a segmented fashion. The light hit the floor and resembled the fanning light in the beginning of the title sequence of Futurama.

But Cola literally is, we even see in old footage in A Clone of My Own that it used to be used as a medical tonic, same as Cola used to be. :p

Slurm isn't the 21st century version of Coca Cola, exactly...

Slurm is just a pop-culture amalgamation of soft drinks and big companies in general. Obviously, Coca Cola is the principal influence because Coke is really famous and there's plenty of pop-culture tied to it to draw humour from but at the same time, Slurm doesn't look like it'd taste anything like Coke. I'm pretty sure that if they were to release some sort of tie-in Slurm product now, they'd release a derivative of Mountain Dew, an energy drink or possibly just some sort of lemonade in the can.

Thinking about it, does Coca Cola still exist in Futurama's take on the 31st century? I can only think of confirmation that Pepsi still does.

Also, Lucozade was also an old medical tonic.

Both Horse Pepsi and Horse Coke were mentioned at the track races in LotF.
