Thanx to Smitty for posting this in a new thread, and David A. Goodman for answering the questions A lot of people guessed this already, but just for confirmation... And in what I think we'll air as the final episode, Fry writes a holophoner opera for Leela. The episode (and the opera) were written by Ken Keeler, and it is brilliantly funny

I'm very much anticipating this episode! I know it'll be awesome. I love musicals and the opera sounds very intriguing. It kind of reminds me of how Christian in "Moulin Rouge" pens that opera that represents his and Satine's love, but that could just be because I'm listening to MR music at the moment. Here's my two cents: Fry loses his hands again and goes to get new ones. However, at Handscrafters, he runs into a robot who tells him the Robot Devil will give anyone hands with the ability to fufill their greatest fantasy, in exchange for their soul. Fry immediately thinks of Leela, who chastises him earlier on in the story, and decides to investigate. The Robot Devil promises Fry a new set of hands, however, if he doesn't win Leela over, his soul ends up in Robot Hell (a la "Little Mermaid" ). As someone mentioned before in another thread, I have a theory that Fry's ability to play the holophoner well will lead to a newfound celebrity status. Even though he may capture Leela's heart, his stardom blocks him from realizing he's finally accomplished what he set out to do. Leela gets fed up with Fry's arrogance and the fact that he forgets all his friends and refuses to speak to him again, though he doesn't realize it because he's so caught up in his "music." The Robot Devil then comes for him and takes him away to Robot Hell. Bender witnesses this and heads back to PE where he tries to get Leela to rescue Fry. She refuses at first, but Bender convinces her to help. What follows is a rock opera as the Robot Devil tortures Fry, Leela and Bender try to rescue their friend and Leela and Fry try to sort out their feelings. Leela lies to the Robot Devil that she really has been swept off her feet and, when Fry gives back his hands, Fry's soul is returned. Fry naturally feels terrible for ignoring his friends and the fact that they risked their lives to save him, but Bender assures him the sales of his Video-CD will make up for it ("After all, as your manager, I get 80%." ). Fry apologizes to Leela and asks her if she'll give him a second chance. She frowns but then brightens and says, "Well...for the moment, it's a definite maybe." And our three heroes walk happily off into the sunset. Abounding with sap? Yes. But would you expect anything less from me? On a side note, I have been considering writing my idea of this episode in script form, though the music would be a bit hard to do as I don't know of any composer programs.

from what i have heard she misses his performance because she goes deaf somehow. Where did you hear that, Venus?
David Cohen said it in the audio coemmentary to "Bender Gets Made". While Leela is examined at the Taco Bellevue Hospital, David say:
"I'm going to give another ad for a future episode: Leela is blinded in this episode, but in season 4 she's deafened!" (or words to that effect)
Afterwards he adds:
"The general rule is: Fry get his head and limbs cut off in episodes, and Leela lose her senses one at a time".
Making it happen in "Devils Hands..." is speculation, but it does sound reasonable.

I think the creators want Fry and Leela to get together, and they know that we want it, and they know this is the last episode, so it'll happen. There will have to be some kind of tragedy to overcome (whether of "gift of the magi" scenario where Fry's musical talent lasts exactly as long as Leela's deafness, or Leela discovering that Fry sold out Bender, or Fry getting dragged of to Robot Hell, or any of the other ideas that people have suggested, or something completely different), but at the end, I think they will kiss, and live happily ever after. Or, they'll kiss, and live happily until the show jumps forward a few months and we see them breaking up and wondering why they wasted four years of their lives on the possibility of romance when they're so obviously not suited for each other. Or maybe Fry and Leela fly off to New York and New Hampshire to get Dave Nelson and Lisa Miller back together, and bring them off into the future (where they can live happily ever after running a space radio station--after Bender sets up Dave with a space hooker, of course). Now that was an unsatisfying ending for a great series.... Speaking of which, I don't know if anyone here watches (or, rather, attempts to watch) Invader ZIM, but they couldn't possible misschedule Futurama that badly. The last episode of the first season was preempted with no explanation, then later shown as part of "Nick Toons" with no advance warning. Then they decided to cancel the show, and just show the episodes that were already in the can as a final season. The producers got funding to make one last episode to tie off as much as they could. Nick then postponed the final season for a year--except for the finale, which they showed despite the fact that it made little sense without the rest of the season ("Who the hell is minimoose?" ). They now plan to trickle in the remaining episodes over the next year without any advertising or advance notice (so far, I've seen one episode out of the six that are supposed to appear, which I had to download illegally since I never heard it aired). And you thought Fox was evil? As far as the X-Files: Originally posted by FrysGIRL: What are you talking about?! They did kiss. French BTW.
Oh come on, patriotic citizens like them wouldn't share a french kiss. It was a freedom kiss!

I have seen Invader Zim, and find it very funny, nothing serious though, no real plot or anything except in a few episodes. how did that show end anyway?
Also, Freedom kiss, RIGHT ON! I am not an american, but i DO have french people.
And all i can say is that the show had better end on a happy loving note, maybe funny for that last milisecond, you know like they kiss and bender appears and is all like "where the hell were you two! i had to escape by myself!"
nothing ironic, nothing that ruins it, nothing that leaves you guessing about anything. i don't mean i want to see them wed and happy togather, but at least in a happy loveing relationship that could go anywhere.
Yes, i am one hell of a shiper.....

They've had God on the show, mayeb they'll have the devil on too... Remember the Devil From The Simpsons? He was Ned Flanders and he was in Simpsons Treehouse of Horror 4. Maybe that devil could be in The Devil's Hands are Idol Playthings. The thought of it.

Are we talking NewsRadio here? And PCC Fred, were you talking in the 3rd person, or is there actually a TV network/channel called PCC? But, I have trouble expecting anything from this episode because it is so hard to make an indefinite ending. The HHGG radio series did it and it was quite unsatisfying. The ruler of the universe was essentially a cat. Don't ask. Fits 7-12 don't make much sense. Then again, nothing about it makes sense, but it's funny anyway. Futurama usually makes sense.
