Because people here rarely introduce themselves.  They just jump right into the discussion.  Don't take offence since most people here first start caring about who you actually are when they have seen your posts and judged your qualities by your posting alone.

yes, peel policy is to introduce yourself by just diving in and joining a conversation somewhere. It's a logical extension of our general "if you don't have something to say, don't say it" policy.
