Long time lurker, first time poster.
Just have to comment on how good the scores have been lately. That's Christopher Tyng's work, right? Even though they apparently lack a live orchestra now, Futurama has been sounding better than ever.
I especially love the scores in moments like:
-Leela and Lars date in BBS - I seriously want this .mp3 -Fry and Farnsworth's one-month trip to Da Vinci's world -The last 7 minutes of The Late Philip J Fry - especially this. The soundtrack for this episode is simply amazing. I can watch the last moments of this episode with my eyes closed (not that I wouldn't want to keep them open), and just enjoy the music. I don't know if the episode would have that emotional power nor that magic wonder without that score. The suspended strings right when Leela's message appears and the soft voices when the world starts ending hark back to The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings (my fav. episode). I am very eager to listen to future scores from Tyng, they're better than most film scores (and Usher).
Saxamaphone, I am a first-time caller...er, poster here, too. I really like your post. I also find scores to be as interesting, if not more interesting, than the visual action or spoken dialogue of movies and TV shows. I'll have to re-watch those parts you mention. Re: that month-long trip to the Da Vinci's world, I think I was so entranced with the lyrical fluidity of the animation (and I'm always a sucker for beautiful space vistas), that I didn't even notice the music. I have to say, though, that if one notices the score RIGHT away, then that composer did a terrible job. e.g., the music for Clint Eastwood's "Mystic River" was just so discordant on my ears, it really ruined the movie for me. So I was chagrined when it was nominated for an Academy Award (though I really am a fan of Mr. Eastwood's directorial work).

In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela From the sizzler at Comic-con and the premise, I have high hopes that The Prisoner of Benda is going to be placing toward the top

Is "Spleh" really a better tier than "Rather Pedestrian," or is that a reference to something?
Hm, it seems like this gem of a thread was before your time.
