I have my doubts on a cat invasion episode, but I also had doubts on a Hermes/Bender episode and a Da Vinci episode and those turned out very funny to me. I was actually inspired to create a gif of the squid battle in Duh-Vinci because it was so ridiculous and funny  :D

All episodes can't be great.  Most episode were avarage (for Futurama) - eps that were enjoyable but lacked something to make them great.  But that's Okay, even most episodes were enjoyable viewing.

So for the people predicting that "Katz" will suck, they'll probably be right, because they have already made their minds up prior to viewing it.

I'm going in with the attitude that it's a new Futurama episode and it will be 30 minutes of entertainment.  I'm also wanting it to be enjoyable so that the viewership numbers will be good enough to warrent another order of 26 episodes.  For all the people who were damning the new run because they didn't like IDGAL (what ever) and AOTKA as being too "pop-culterish" or being out of character for Leela, look at the two latest eps - LI and TLPJF (which FemJesse corectly pointed out could also stand for Turanga Leela Phillip J Fry) are about as good as it gets.

There are lots of things about the new run that I like:  New combinations of of character-driven episodes, more of an "adult-feel" to some of the eps and the progression of the Fry/Leela relationship.  We know it's there, we know that it's not easy for either Fry or Leela because both are people with lots of differences and it's mostly in the background and not overdone.  Case-in point:  When 85 year old Leela realized that she had held a grudge against Fry for 50 years for the wrong reason, she didn't break down in tears or run to a shrink to come to terms with it, she wrote a letter to Fry that she knew never would be read (but was).  She also realized that she did love the redheaded goof.  Pointed out in less than a minute but it hits the viewers hard.

So yes, Katz may not be Roswell or The Sting, but I'm guessing it will be better than ALOHO or TCW.

Nicely worded.  I'd also like to point out that the "adult-feel" is the show seems to be fairly mature about itself... especially since it now resides in a genre of its own where sitcom television rules need not apply.

I was a little fearful of a Futurama that was more "adult", but so far, I haven't seen a whole lot of crude humor that really just goes to the gutter compared to the original run, so on the whole I'm pretty relieved and happy with the new episodes.

As far as concepts for episodes go, I actually love what I know of this one and my gut instincts have been pretty spot on so far as for how much I've enjoyed episodes so far, so I can see myself enjoying this one a lot too even if I'm all alone in doing so.

It's not the most original plot they've ever done, but it seems to be one of the 'purest' if that makes sense and I love the fact that they're just normal cats, but super-intelligent. Maybe you have to like cats.

Many people are claiming that 'That Darn Katz' will not measure up to the critically acclaimed eps like roswell etc - the thing is, how do we know? The episode hasn't even aired yet! I thought people were supposed to make judgements about an ep AFTER they view it, not before!

It's true, that that is how it should work.  But given what we know, it does not seem likely.  Of course, we can always be surprised.  Though, I will admit I was far more intrigued by "Attack of the Killer App" and "The Duh-Vinci Code" than I was about "The Late Philip J. Fry" before any of them aired.  And guess who came out on top?

There is always room for them to surprise still.  So I'll reserve my judgement for when the episode has aired, though, I will assert it is a fair judgement that it will probably not equal "Roswell that Ends Well" and the like.  There are two major indications for this; A. it would be following an episode that just did (in my opinion of course, I am sure someone disagrees with me) and B. it has not be singled out by the producers or voice actors as one of the better episodes.

Come to think of it, most of the episodes before this one have been mentioned in some form in interviews.  All we know is that a race of intelligent cats will invade Earth.  We have no storyboard pictures, no guest actors, no indications of characters that might return in this episode; nothing.  Just that one line and some scenes from the reel the put on CC's website.

The whole 'lolcat' assertion seems to stem from people assuming that the attraction of cats in this episode (might be how they take over) is largely related to the Internet phenomenon of 'lolcats'.  But that is purely an assumption.

I'm just hoping for a good episode. Nothing special, just a good episode.

As I said before, even if it turns out to be mediocre, I can't really see any fans reacting with anger to it, as they did with IAGDL and especially AOTKA. But that's just me...

You'd be surprised. You can pretty much assume that, even if it's a good episode, there'll be someone who didn't like a joke or a scene or something and will come and start going on about how "Futurama's dead! And it's like Family Guy now!!!11oneoneone"

As for That Darn Katz!, I'm looking forward to it just like all the other episodes (well, I may have been more excited about Rebirth and The Late Phillip J. Fry than the others). So far, I haven't really been disappointed with any of the new episodes but maybe that's because I realise that not every epsiode of the original run was like the most awesome episode ever and so I haven't been expecting every new episode (except for The Late Phillip J. Fry (and I wasn't disappointed)) to be the most awesome episode ever.

Revised rankings:
1. The Late Philip J. Fry
2. Lethal Inspection
3. The Duh-Vinci Code
4. Proposition Infinity
5. That Darn Katz!
6. Rebirth
7. Attack of the Killer App
8. In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela

Katz would be higher if it weren't for that damn cat can-can! It was an overall mid-range episode, gets ahead of Rebirth because of that episode's mehitude due to transitional capacity. Katz did have its moments, especially by being one of my favorite Amy episodes (which isn't exactly saying much) and also featuring Nibbler in a starring role.

Mm.
It's.. the order I arrived at?  Relatively subject to change of course, though for now I s'pose it's accurate.  I've avoided posting anything about the new episodes so far because I just couldn't really be bothered, but I guess today I just sort of felt like tossing that out
there.  Katz couldn't surpass Lethal Inspection for me because of LI's adorable ending - plus some better jokes, probably - (Silver Medal Winner, Mexican-American War!!  Adobe Photo Shoppe!  "We have to get to that pile of dead bears by 7:38"!  et cetera) - but like Josh I think said, the first 8 minutes or so were just about perfect.  It was then brought down by the can-can thing (what the fuck), the other bit with the two cats dancing and the snips of baby talk.  Other than those, overall I loved it.  Also I have a couple of personal reasons for liking it.

The others were all probably more close than that list suggests really, this is why I don't love doing rankings.  *shrugs*  There were good/fantastic and baddish parts to all of them.

FINALLY, I have to say that the use of 'In the Year 2525' in TLPJF was quintuple-A.  I love that song.
And, like just about everyone, AOTKA would have been pretty good/much better if it wasn't for the boil and the goat.  :nono:

I hope that is relatively satisfactory, Svippy. :p

I suppose I should rank them since I haven't yet.

1) The Late Philip J Fry

3) Lethal Inspection
4) Rebirth
5) Attack of the Killer App
6) Proposition Infinity
7) That Darn Katz!
...
9) The Duh-Vinci Code
...
20) In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela

Not sure why "Attack of the Killer App" is so low on some peoples lists.. Was the boil joke that grating to ya'll?
I know it was bad, but it didn't take away from the rest of the episode in my opinion.

EDIT: Its still being ranked only between episodes of this season, I just don't think a straight 1 to 8 listing properly shows what I think the ranking should be.

I'd probably put the Duh-Vinci Code at the bottom, and That Darn Katz@! above it.

I loved the first act of TDVC, but the rest kind of was dumbish to me.  Expecially the end.  So there.  Also, I liked In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela.

The main problem is that it was a pretty large component of the episode; I mean, like the main plot point.  It's pretty difficult to forget about when thinking of the episode.  That said, what's all this anger about the Katz can-can joke?  I read a few review posts before watching the ep, and I was expecting like... a full cat musical interlude or something.  It was a 2 second throwaway joke!

Yeah, it is a throwaway, it didn't anger as much as it seems to have angered some others, but it just feels...not right. It feels like something you'd see on Family Guy -- and I don't use the comparison lightly, I am usually annoyed when people say stuff like "the new episodes are a bunch of random pop culture jokes, they're just as bad as Family Guy now". This gag, however, really did feel to me like something out of FG (though to be fair, FG probably would have stretched the gag out for 30 seconds, or longer...:D)

In short, it just felt...un-Futurama?

2- tPoB
3- LI
4- aCO
5- TDVC
6- IAGDL
7- TDK
8- Rebirth
9- PI
10- AoKA

Not that I hated Attack of the Killer App, btw.  All the other eps were just so much better, in terms of plot, character development, and background jokes.  Rebirth would be my least favorite ep, but it gets points for being the first.  This list, obviously, is subject to change, as all of the next four eps (especially Lrreconcilable Ndndfferences) figure to be perfect or better.  Let's hope CC has the kahones to renew Futurama for another season sooner rather than later!!!  I want MORE FUTURAMA!!!

Indeed. As both a believer and a scientist, I don't see any reason why one precludes the other. Anybody who uses one to rule out the other is in my view neither a scientist nor a believer.

You said it, my man.  It's actually troubling for many of the scientists in the serious papers, who are actually believers, because they can't really come out and expose that, because they fear it might hurt their credibility.  I have no issue with believers and scientists being together.  I also find it comical that some believers believe that scientists are their enemy!  wat the
