one reason why futurama is my favorite television show is because of it's consistency. most shows lose their essence after a couple seasons due to their creators losing interest. the simpsons, family guy, even south park come to mind. this has yet to happen to futurama. id reason that's mainly due to it never having widespread success, as well as it's initial cancellation. i think everything paid off in the end for us fans, as we are soon to have 200+ quality episodes.
another reason for this consistency would have to be attributed to david x. cohen and his continued passion for this series. he is an extremely intelligent and thoughtful creator and continued contributor. he's still in the trenches, overseeing everything from the writing to the voice acting.
as long as futurama doesn't become extremely greedy and lazy like seth macfarlaine's crew have become, the show will continue to have clever, funny, and completely original plots and dialogue. unfortunately, it happens if a show is on the air for several years; which is also what we are all hoping for with the revival.

anyways, we'll see. lets atleast get new episodes first!

1. south park lost it's essence around seasons 4 and 6. don't get me wrong, i love south park and i thought the recent muhammad episode was pure brilliance. however, as soon as they started making episodes based solely around pop culture, and not just as a parting joke, it lost something. id guess it's because they're known to write episodes in days, and they've been on the air consistently since 1998. it's understandable.

2. i forgot that i'm still back in time, my bad.

3. no i haven't, but i enjoyed the first 3 seasons. i was more talking about family guy, and possibly the cleveland show.

South Park is just as brilliant and topical as when it premiered. In fact, it's now even more topical and become more of an institution of television than when it premiered. Think about Trapped in the Closet. Or the recent hubbub about Mohammad and the jihad on Trey and Matt. It hasn't lost its edge yet, unlike other shows referenced in this thread. Futurama's new season look like it'll be taking some of that topical edge, with episodes about the iPhone and gay marriage. I'm looking forward to how the writers spin current issues.

Anyone see the new facebook episode of South Park?  A little outlandish, but funny as hell, just like all their other topical stuff.

First thing I saw upon entering this thread was the ever so slight dig at southpark, which as I rightly thought, was the first thing that someone picked up on.

 :)

There's no shock there.

But I do agree on some counts. I find southpark, when I get round to watching it anyway, to be funny and although a little... too much at times, generally a good program, and much more watchable than a lot of crap that makes its way onto TV nowadays.
I can agree though on most other counts, Futurama never really lost its pizzaz, perhaps with the exception of the movies, which weren't as good, and the occasional episode throughout the four series.

But yeah, in comparison with Family Guy, it's stayed consistantly good.

For the record: I don't watch American Dad.

I love Futurama because of the adventures, characters, situations, personalities, and social commentary.  I also love how it references movies, books, TV, and even current events.   And, it's not like it is on The Simpsons and Family Guy where it's the same old crap.

Those are also the reasons why I love American Dad and South Park, too.

So, are we supposed to post one reason why we think Futurama is so awesome or were you (i.e. flesheatingbull) just telling us one reason why you think Futurama is so awesome?

Because if we're supposed to post one reason why we think Futurama is so awesome, I don't think I can narrow it down to just one thing. all the cool things about it just make it so awesome I guess...

The only important reason why Futurama is so awesome is Scruffy. All other reasons pale in comparison.

Someone else could have responded with "Second." But not now, because you've pointed it out and ruined it!

[Taylor]Damn you!  Damn you all to hell![/Taylor]

One important reason why Futurama is so awesome is the hilarious dialog; the writing can stand on it's own.  I told this Bender line ("I can't keep running people over; I'm not famous enough to get away with it") to one of my buddies in LA, and he just lost it.

No, it had to be the post immediately following coldangel_1's one about Scruffy.

Saying 'second' to a quote just doesn't have the same pizzazz.   :nono:

I agree with my fellow wiener. South Park is still topical and great. Not every episode is based on pop culture prime recent examples would be Medicinal Fried Chicken and Butter Bottom B. Futurama is incredibly consistent and even when they did miss the mark a little the shows weren't complete disasters.

although my initial critique on South Park may have been a little strong, their popular culture references seem to take up more and more of their episodes.

also, "medicinal friend chicken" is absolutely based around current events.

Current events yes but current events don't necessarily mean pop culture. Woodland Critter Christmas was in season 8 and that episode was pure demented genius. I don't think its possible for a show to completely ignore pop culture and remain relevant. Futurama is set in the future and still draws on current pop culture references.
