Decent episode had some good jokes, looks like Blernsball wasn't as wild as it was before, maybe because no one got a multi-ball.

average at best.  the episode seemed too inspirational with the stupid immigrants and the stupid female player.  stupids.  or something.  I only watched it once, so perhaps later i'll think it was more hilarious.  The pizza parlor subplot was pretty lame though

I will review after having seen it a second time, but I will say that I was amused.  Quite a bit dissapointed that Blernsball wasn't as strange as it was before.  It seemed like it was just baseball on a rope this time.

It was a above average for regular TV and a very decent Futurama episode.  I'd give it a B but it was near the B- range.  There were a few gags and I loved the many cameos even though I always want more.  Amy could of used more lines, and we even got to see Hermes entire family but they said little to nothing.
The Alien Pizza family could of been handled better but they were not as annoying as I thought they would of become.
The end should of ended with better music?  I know that is a really dumb nitpick but it really annoyed me.

Has anyone else noticed the professor trend?
He is getting meaner and funnier.

In Futurestocks: his constant taunting of the old lazy-eyed woman.

In A Leela of Her Own: Making remarks at the immigrant aliens.

--> Shortly after insulting them:

I do wish I could see it again.  But I do agree I did not like how Blernsball was not as wacky and confusing as before.  The funniest scene in the Blernsball game was at the end when the woman got the ball into the "ski-ballish" looking hole.

The first act of this episode was hilarious, loved all the jokes about the aliens. Farnsworth yelling "No!" i thought was almost as funny as "Tell them I hate them!" The jokes slowed down as the episode went on, but there was something about this episode. More than any ones ive seen in the last season or so, it really felt like Futurama, kinda like the greatness of seasons 1 and 2 before the stories started getting so far fetched n stuff.

Great episode...

Actually, that's what I don't like about the episodes like this one.  How it doesn't get far fetched enough.  I want it to be a great space opera comedy, not something that can be done on any show.  When I want a (somewhat) normal portrayal of cartoon characters in this time period I watch "The Simpsons".

In other words: I don't want to watch "The Jetsons".

Yes, somehow they managed to get through a Blernsball-centric episode without revealing a single rule of blernsball. When they were about to play the game, I screamed in joy - maybe we can start a blernsball league, I thought. But no.

"Take your eye off the ball!"

I'll watch it again later and make a better review.

It felt more "Futurama" like I think because it was a lot more heavy on the aliens.  The frisbee saucer, to the immigrant aliens we saw a lot more futuristic look at NNYC.  But on the other side it wasn't as crazy as it should of been like our first look at Blernsball (What episode was that?).

Not the best Futurama episode, but still pretty good.  Then again, my opinion of it might have been raised by having just watched The Simpsons.  I hadn't given it a chance in some time and decided to try it again.  Now I need some time to recover my lost brain cells.

A pretty good episode, not one of the top-tier ones this season, but not all too bad either. It was cool to see the return of the URFL guy and Fishy Joe. The Simpsons was awful tonight, ugh. Crows and medicinal marijuana?!?    :nono:

I agree.  "That's not a worm" (while the crows are swarming over and pecking at Homer) was perhaps the episode's best line.  (It was that bad.)

And was it just me or did the storyline jump around a lot even for The Simpsons.  First they start with genetically enhanced veggies which leads Marge to take up farming which leads to the crows and Homer becoming their "leader" which leads to Homer being pecked nearly to death which leads to Homer getting medical marijuana.  Then he lands the "VP" job and the marijuana is banned again.  I tuned out when Smithers and Homer "killed" Burns and had to figure out a way to get him to make his speech.

Contrast this with Futurama's plot:  New pizza place leads to Blernsball game which leads to Leela becoming a pro-Blernsball player (and her quest to be anything but the worst Blernsball player around).  Much simpler.  (And infinitely funnier even if it wasn't the best Futurama episode ever.)

After 13 years on the air (it won't happen people!) Futurama's plots would be just as jarring.  What matters is weather or not the show is funny.  Tonight's Simpsons was funny for the first two acts, but the plot should have been extended there.  The third act made no sense.

A fine thirty-minute gigglefest. I too would've liked to have seen more odd Blernsball stuff, but it was a nice change of pace to see Leela dealing with feet of clay.

Disturbing trend emerging: While little background touches which can be picked up or ignored at the viewer's discretion are great, packing so many cameos into each episode that it steals valuable time from the main plot (or plots) is an Official Bad Move. A Leela Of Her Own doesn't have this problem NEARLY as bad as Future Stock does, but if the Family Brothers/Fishy Joe scene didn't have a punchline--and it sure didn't seem to--then what the hell was the whole scene doing there? It's got nothing on the "Horse-Pepsi" gag from Luck of the Fryish. Neigh!

This is the second time I've noticed Amy has...a problem. Let's call it Winona Ryder Syndrome. Will this be something for a future episode? Is Amy really a Bad Girl? Oh GOD, I hope so!

I liked this episode but we need more of the wacky blerns ball stuff like before " THIRD BALL LOCKED, MULTIBALL MULTIBALL!!!!!!" then they circle the bases on mortocycles as they explode.  but o well. I loved scruffy when he was ump. "take your base." Scruffy rules. All in all it was pretty funny and the immigrant jokes weren't bad. We also saw the return of Fishy Joe and the sleezy robot fighting league guy.

The game of blernsball seemed to be a little toned down, and I wish they would elaborate on the rules a little more. But the episode was still very good, and the alien immigrant family subplot was handled very well. Act one and three were the best. I was hoping more fire to ignite between Leela and Jackie. I liked it that they made up at the end of the episode, but that killed the possiblity for my idea of a follow-up ep where the two ladies go for a rematch.

All the new characters were played pretty well, and we get to see more famous heads, woo-hoo! I give it a B.

I know this isn't the place for a Simpsons debate, but the 13 years excuse is lame. There are plenty of good ideas out there for anyone creative enough to think them up. If these current writers can't come up with a decent story to save their lives, maybe instead of making up lame excuses, they should just end the show. For crying out loud, that crappy Jim Breuer movie had better pot humor than this episode.

As for A Leela Of Her Own, I expected it to be sucky, but it ended up being pretty funny. Kinda bland, but at least the story wasn't completely stupid, and it followed its natural course and stuff. And the jokes were funny enough.

I thought most of it was pretty boring.  I really enjoyed Hank Arens the 30th or whatever, I thought that was funny.  Now that guy was messed up--he was more pathetically messed up than Fry.  I usually think of Fry as being a stupid slacker; I see Homer as a stupid jackass.

I don't watch The Simpsons for months, this was the first time I did, and wow.  Even if this Futurama episode was fairly boring through most of it, it wasn't *bad* like the simpsons.  Guess I will wait another season.

Basically I agree with Fishyjoe.

I kind of liked this episode, although by no means think it is up there with the best of this season. It had its moments like Hank Aaron and his descendant. I hope we see more of him in the future. Hank Aaron did an outstanding job in this I thought doing both voices. How often do we get celebrities doing voices other than their own? Not too often I think.
Leela beaning people was funny and never got tired of seeing it. I really liked the Fishy Joe sequence as it sure seemed like the writers were really parodying themselves.
Well, I am typically a little more slanted towards episodes that feature Leela so maybe that is why I liked this episode. Maybe after a dozen or so more viewings this will begin to wear on me but for now I enjoyed it.  :)

I really enjoyed this episode! It was quite entertaining.  It wasnt the best, but I found myself laughing quite a bit.  And yes leela was quite attractive (hot) as a blernsball player.  I thought the E-bay Joke was pretty funny was well.

I laughed out loud during this episode quite a bit, but it seems like everyone else didn't like it as much as I did. Hilarious sight gags, like the already mentioned black bar generator and the aliens in the pizza oven. Hank Aaron did a good job and they didn't make a huge deal out of his guest shot. B+

A better than average episode.  I laughed a lot.  The baseball jokes were good.  I liked Leela's "bean counters" (subtle dig at Fox executives?).  And, Leela did look cute in her uniform.  Too bad Fry wimped out when given the opportunity to pat her on the fanny.

Pretty good episode - better than average for season four, as far as I'm concerned.  There were some good laughs and some disappointments.  Anyone figure out the significance of Leela's number yet (7/8)?  I don't get it.
