Bender doesn't become a mob leader in Godfellas, he becomes a god.

From CGEF:

When Bender is accidentally swept away into a space vacuum, he becomes spiritually inclined and makes some devastating decisions. Meanwhile, Fry, Leela and Professor Farnsworth frantically search for Bender as he floats through space, and learns an important lesson from his journey.

Pity you missed it, it was a good one

Hmm, an odd one this. It had some great gags in it that made me smile, but nothing was really explained. Why did the stocks suddenly drop down to worth 3cents at the end? What was the ape fight about? Why was Calculon in it? The end was just strange, there was no explanation for any of this.

Zoidberg and the sandwich was great. Mom wasn't annoying for once. But there could've been more relevant stuff put in, for example watching the crew make a delivery under the terrible new management.

Rating: 3/5 - Not bad, a bit confusing but had some good gags in it.

Best line: (Fry) "Yay, we're poor no matter what I do!".

I watch it while I feeling sad missing my boyfriend.

Great bits:

Fry's ass,
PlanetEX add
Amy's being upset after they got fired
The Boneitis scene (Very very funny)

First of all, the colour of the 80's guy's hair was a bad choice.  It looked fuzzy compared to the rest of the picture.

This is another example of a paper-thin plot held together by a lot of good one-liners.

I liked the Prof's opening speech at the beginning, "Leels", the bit where one of Mom's sons votes for Pat Buchanan, and the stock fluctuating during Fry's speech at the end.

3/5

Great!  Another season 4 episode that I thought was really quite good.  Not as good as 'Buggalo', but definitely the second best of the season.

I've always been ahuge Mom fan, so I was looking forward to this one.  Pity she wasn't in it too much, but the scenes in which she did appear were all gold.  I loved the 'I don't want ass marks on my new door!' line.  The only thing that could have made her appearance better was to have her being 'nice Mom' when she was in public, in her fat suit.  The 'evil Mom' should only be revealed in private, like in her first episode. I had no idea who Pat Buchannan was, though, so that one fell flat on me..

Other funny bits included the very beginning, where the Professor thought he was dead, the Robot Bar-Mitzva (and the return of Pig), Fox -62, the bone-itis death scene, Elzar (his best line for a good while), Fry making his own gel, and probably other bits that I've forgotten and I'm not going to be able to see for five weeks, when I come home from uni.  :(

Other noteable parts were the tube crossing, the PlanEx commercial (although I've never seen the 1984 advert) and Zoidberg and Scruffy being quite well written for once.

Bad bits.. I can't really think of much at the moment, except for the Ape Fight and Calculon's line, but I'm sure there were other ones, otherwise I'd be giving it a higher mark.

More episodes need to be set in New New York!  This is one of the few in the season that is, and I think it benefits from it.

I'll give this episode 4/5, which is being generous.  If it had been in the middle of earlier seasons I may have given it less.  Still, a good episode.

Yeah, but everyone in the 1980s had shitty hairstyles, it was the fashion.

This would go in the small group know as the worst episodes. It was funny but the humour was to far stretched, that and I hate that side of the 80's i.e. the money grabbing I don't care who I step on get what I want.

Thought this ep was better than the two that preceeded it (pharoh + godfellas).

Particually enjoyed the 'PlanEx' gag and the share-price variation at the end of the show.

The ape-fight scene was a bit pointless (just dropped into remind you that Zapp + Calculon still exist?). Also what was up with Calculon's voice? Sounded like he had a sore throat!

I noticed something in this episode. When Fry was ironing his tie his jacket was open. And then when everyone else came in about a second later his jacket was closed. This also happened right before Fry was going to show the new commercial.

I am getting increasing sure that all of the Season 4 ewpisodes from the 3ACV episode block were just the ones that FOX didn't like. I mean, Where the Buggalo Roam, A Pharoah to Remember, Futurestocks, Leela of her Own and 30% Iron Chef have all been exceedingly average and samey. Roswell and Godfellas went down well but were both a bit iffy (IE: They may have flopped, Roswell because of the obscure nature of the plot and Godfellas because it was slow). Love & Rocket, Leela's Homeworld and WNFHGB are all from the 4ACV production block and were recieved well, and that leaves AOI2 and Tale of 2 Santas which I haven't seen yet.

If The Route of All Evil sucks then I will be convinced of that theory. The good news is that the 4ACV episodes have all been recieved well so hopefully Series 5 will be good. We can only hope.

Actually the nature of the Roswell plot is quite well known.  However you do have a point.  All the good 3ACV episodes (Time Keeps on Slipping, Parasites Lost, Luck of the Fryrish) were part of FOX's 3rd season.

This begs the question - since the 4ACV episodes shown this season have been very good, are the naff ones being kept back for next year?  Stuff like "Fry and Leela develop superpowers" and "Kif gets pregnant" doesn't exactly inspire me with confidence.

I don't believe your theory because I don't think FOX actually watches every episode and knows how to judge a quality episode (They're the ones cancelling the show for crying out loud).  Roswell, Futurestock, Godfellas, and 30% Iron Chef, were planned to be shown during season 4 from the beginning.  Where the Buggalo roam, Phaoroh to remember,Route to All Evil, Leela of her own, and AOI2 were the only ones that cut from the Season 3.  A Tale of To Santas was canceled from last season due to (what they claimed)to be too violent for its time slot. Their mediocrity (although that is a matter of opinion) seems more like a coincidence. The only thing FOX had to do with season 4 is the number of episodes aired.  I still think of it as a stroke of luck that we even got to see Tale of Two Santas, and I doubt that FOX will EVER air it again.

Worst of the season so far.

Wow, I just had to ressurect this thread, because my opinion on this ep has changed sooooo much with time. This ep is the perfect example of how what can seem like a bad ep at first can become awesome with time. Well, at least for me. I love this ep now, That Guy is so funny, he's a legend, and there's some really funny moments, like when the Proff runs off luaghing with his heart  :laff:

Bumped for dvd again....

Man most of the reviews of this ep are bagging it, but I loved this one....!
So many funny lines and moments....I think people read into them too much sometimes, just watch it and laugh....!
The ape fight was funny because it served no purpose, same as the Calculon part....  :laff:

Mom was funny as always, Zoidberg, he's so lame you gotta love him (Ha ha you got fleeced....I would have settled for a bread roll with ketchup inside) close enough

That Guy was really funny and I loved the safety dance for some reason....I don't even know what they're referencing but it's funny to me *dun dun dun dun-dun etc*   :laff:
The bone-itis death was freaky but it surprised me seeing as how I'd forgotten that he had the disease by the end....

I hate the stock market but love this ep....  :D

Also, "Don't you worry about blank, let ME worry about blank....!

I thought it was great. It was the first whole episode I ever saw, which mind you changed my perspective of all the characters at first...

Safety dance is awesome, that guy is awesome.

Three favorite lines/short dialogues:

"Hey, this isn't a business plan, it's an escape plan!"

"Hair gel?"
"No thanks, I make my own."

"Look at my butt, woooo!"
"Hit the retaliate button!"
"Umm..."
"Any one, they all retaliate!"

I wonder if anyone else got the "no thanks, I make my own" joke... bad first impression of Fry...

Futurestock is hands down one of my favorite episodes, and one of the first I saw when I became a devoted fan.  Ohhhh, Houghton.

Anyway, must sees include: Bonitis, the saftey-dance finger dance (the song sounds nothing like that, by the way), The rip on the Macintosh "1984" commercial, and all the glory of 80's yuppie slease.

My question is, when he said he wanted the company to be more like Germany did he mean east or west Germany?

It surprised me also how little people thought of this episode. I thought it was awesome. I would say awesome to the max, but the Big Ape Fight scene let it down for me.

And just to give everyone else an insight into my mind, of all the great quoteworthy lines in the episode, this part was my favourite:

Mom: How about a hand recount?
Igner: Okay! *slap* Ow!

Fantastic. Some other good parts:

"When I was frozen, giant carrots ruled the earth. Now they don't. It takes some getting used to."

That Guy: Let's work on your execu-speak. "I'm worried about 'blank'."
Fry: Don't you worry about 'blank', let me worry about 'blank'.
That Guy: Correct. I also would've accepted: "'Blank?' 'Blank?!' You're not looking at the big picture!

A personal Season 3 favourite of mine.  :)

Good:

Hettie

Zoidy

The PlanEx commercial and Leela and Bender's responses

The Professy

the Bot-Mitzvah

Amy's voice sounded cute

Bad:

This ep. didn't give us much sympathy for Leela, Bender and Amy

perhaps the worst ending ever

Mom was surprisingly unfunny

The boneititus scene was really disturbing.

Why the hell did you bump this? Mods and admins periodically bump these "thoughts on.." threads, they don't need other people doing it constantly, especially when they don't have anything interesting to add. I've heard you've been taken to task on this type of thing before so I wont bust your ass about it, especially because I'm fairly new myself but please just wait for someone high up to give you a chance to talk about it. Sorry if I seem mean.

Future Stock kicks ass. Nazi propaganda, weird Apple/1984 references, best Mom insult ever ("Shove a bastard in it you crap!" ), several moments of inspired ludicrousness, and eighties bagging, all ad up to good times.

Admitedly, I didn't like it so much on my first viewing, but when I watched it again several months latter on DVD, I was laughing frequently. A good ep.

Not one of my personal favorites, though not without its moments; I would have done things differently.  I would have agreed to sell 50,000 shares to Mom at the really high price.  As soon as I disbursed the funds from the sale to the rest of the stockholders...CHEESE IT!
