I know the thread title says "spoilers ahoy" but since SO put his info in a spoiler button thingy i didnt want to risk the wrath of angry Peelers by refering to it outside spoilers
Thank you soylentOrange, Nixons Head, and co. for the use of [spoiler] tags. I, for one, appreciate it.

This all sounds, well interesting to say the least. I have my worries, but I also have faith. The animatic is still getting shown today right?...

That's my understanding, Otis, but I'm not a hundred percent sure. As for all this resetting, I'm annoyed, but not particularly surprised. I'm reserving judgement until we actually see how it plays out. I mean, I think the Fry/Leela thing could be resolved kind of quickly; even if they conveniently forget the "I love you"s and smoochin' that occurred pre-wormhole, I don't necessarily think that "rebirth" means "total memory-wipe." That would honestly be a slap in the face to the fans, who have enjoyed a modicum of character development over the past five-ish seasons.
At any rate, I think that the Zapp/Leela episode could actually work for the ship. I don't know why; I just have a hunch. The fact that it's the second episode of the new season seems significant to me, for some reason.
Also, the plotline for the time-travel episode, where Fry is supposedly too impatient to wait for a date with Leela, wasn't based in speculation, was it? I recall some ComicCon-attending posters--in addition to a few recaps of the event--expressly mentioning that Fry chooses to travel a few minutes into the future because he has a date with Leela. Granted, this doesn't mean they're in a relationship, but it does mean that the writers aren't done with that storyline. I mean, I'm irked by this "rebirth" bullshit, but if they choose to resolve the ship kind of quickly--and in a less tired way--than I could be okay with it. I just don't want some long, drawn-out re-winning of Leela's heart on Fry's part, because we've been there, done that about a thousand times already.

Fry and Professor Farnsworth try to "rebirth" and reconstruct the crew after their devastating return to Earth. This phrasing makes it more interesting.
indeed it does.... what the hell does it mean by that? Are the crew gonna blow up? Fall apart? Still... it makes it more interesting that we have different reports of the same panel

Yeah. Wow. Looks like Fry and the Professor are the only survivors. Talk about angst...

More info from the Miami Supercon yesterday. The wormhole that they go through at the end of the last movie leads them directly back to Earth. But when they get there, they crash, and everyone but Fry and the Professor are "killed." (Zapp is included in the crash.)
Another episode is said to show what happens to inventions such as Twitter and iPod. (In the future, it is implanted in your eye.)
The Nibbler shadow at the end of the fourth movie is an Easter Egg and has no significant meaning behind it.
There will be, however, a Nibbler-centric episode this upcoming season.

That seems interesting.... so the "literal rebirth" would be some sort of cloning or zombie ceremony?

Well, they show the heads and attached skeletons of each of the bodies. Bender's body is made up of circuits and cables, while Kiff's previously mentioned, fluid-filled bladders are also shown. From the sound of it, Farnsworth and Fry are going to have to get creative in recreating some of them.

Such teasers make the whole return of the show sound utterly bizarre. I'm looking forward to it but I can't help but feel apprehensive. One of the things that sets Futurama apart from it's peers is the way the characters have grown throughout the series. I rather hope the rebirth isn't quite as literal as it's made out to be...
That said, I'd be silly to pre-judge. They know what they're doing right?
My only hope is that come the return of the show I'm not left wishing they'd just left it be after ITWGY.
Well, it just seems like they are going to be brought back to life that very same episode-- no +huge+ changes. Conveniently enough, Fry and Leela's recent relationship and attachment to those feelings can be reset due to the rebirthing process. Now, this is just my speculation.

Whoa. That's...extreme. My worry is: Will ANY of the characters be the same? How can Leela, for instance, truly be herself if she's been killed and then reconstructed? Sounds like transporter techonology as designed by Dr. Frankenstein. Accckkk!

sounds to me like professor is going to build something like the reanimator that appeared in the game.
I'm looking forward to that episode that'll take place on Space Rome. That's sounds like it'll be hilarious.
It does! But the one I'm looking forward to most is the one about Zapp and Leela marooned on that planet. I hope Leela beats the crap out of Zapp about 1,427 times, and that Fry is meanwhile frantic to find that planet and rescue his woman. Hopefully we'll see a good guy-on-guy fight. Zapp postures and poses and says something like "I warn you, I'm an expert in Kung Fu," and Fry walks up and says "Well here's some kung right where you're hung!" and kicks him in the balls. Kif applauds. Amy cheers. Bender laughs so hard a brick wall mysteriously appears behind him. Leela and Fry walk off into the sunset. Romantic, huh?
