Okay, to please Fishy (see other song poll) here is this years song contest. Some help:

1: The song Nixon sings when he announces his candidacy (I'm meeting you halfway, ya' stupid hippies!).

4: From "Parasites Lost", not technically a song, but I ain't picky.

8: Take your pick, from "The Series Has Landed", "Bendin' In The Wind" and others.

And for people who haven't seen season 4 yet: 5 and 6 are from "Tale of Two Santas" and "Love & Rocket" respectively.

'We're not Elves, we're Neptunians, we're just shrimpy because he doesn't feed us.' The Neptunian elves song, and isn't it a sonet not sonate?

Yeah, the Holophoner Sonata was cool, probably the orchestra nerd in me voting for that one. Great parts for the violins, which incidentally are the best string instruments.   ;)

Wow how many diffrent spellings of sonnet, well given that I'm from the country that invented the language, and dispite my usuall mistakes, my spelling is right  :evillaugh:

If you didn't guess I voted for the sonnet.

[Grumbles at the constant misspelling of Sonnet and shakes Wu_Konguk's hand for finally getting it right.]

Indeed, Cellery, I'm with you - as a composer and orchestrator, I can wholeheartedly say the Holophonor scene was utterly excellent.  :)

Just to set things straight (in a goodnatured sorta way   :))

sonnet

\Son"net\, n.
1. A short poem, -- usually amatory.

2. A poem of fourteen lines, -- two stanzas, called the octave, being of four verses each, and two stanzas, called the sestet, of three verses each, the rhymes being adjusted by a particular rule.

sonata

\So*na"ta\, n. [It., fr. It. & L. sonare to sound](Mus.)
An extended composition for one or two instruments, consisting usually of three or four movements; as, Beethoven's sonatas for the piano, for the violin and piano, etc.

Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary

Sonate is the Danish word for sonata, thought it was international, sorry.

Oh, and I voted for the Xmas Song. Brilliant song, funny, crazy and those Neptunians was great. And Leela's singing is lovely, just lovely. Hell, even Fry managed to do better than in "Santa Claus Is Gunning You Down".

X-mas song. I still have that tune in my head, and I remember it being pretty damn funny, even though I can't remember any specific lyrics right now.

"She'll be commin' round the mountain" by Bender is something I will never forget, "I'M GONNA KILL YOU AMY!" :laff: My opinion will probably change when I watch "A Tale of Two Santas" though.

Definitely the X-Mas song.

"There's a toy lodged in my brain!"

The Bureaucrat Song rocks, I personally rate it just a tad above the Xmas Song (just a little, not too much). It was in the 2001 edition of The Futurama Song Contest.

If anyone is interested in the lyrics to the Xmas Song it can be found here! Warning! Spoilers!!

I have to say that I LOVE the Holophoner Sonata.  It's so pretty and all-around elegant.  I call it "hauntingly beautiful".  It really lets Fry's feelings shine through uninteruptted and displays just how deeply he cares for her.

If Leela says sonata she is wrong.

Sonata form is a complex method of presenting and developing themes in classical music. The holophonor piece is physically NOT a sonata. There simply wasn't time to subject the music to the required exposition, development, and recapitulation. Trust me - I know these things.   :)

It still ain't a sonnet.  A sonnet is a specific type of poem that doesn't have anything at all to do with music.

Oh sonata I know what your talking about now, I think.  Anyway I was playing Earthworm Jim 2 on my snes emulator and I got to the leval where for some reason jim's a cave salamander, anyway my point is it plays Bethoven's Midnight sonata in the back ground. Now I know Fry's piece is not classical but it does seem to fall in the sonat catagory.

guitars are the best stringed instruments...distorted, downtuned guitar kicks violin's ass any day...but violins are cool, mainly because violins set moods better.

"On a saxophone you can play sleaze. On a bass you can play balls. But on a guitar you can be truly obscene ... Let's be realistic about this, the guitar can be the single most blasphemous device on the face of the earth. That's why I like it .... The disgusting stink of a too-loud electric guitar: now that's my idea of a good time."

The song Nixon sings (referred to here as the Head song) is actually called "White Rabbit", and is by Jefferson Airplane - a band that suffered tragedy - they became Starship.
