Eh, I could care less about the politics in the movie right now (again, I don't think they were trying to be political). The environmental message bothered me since it doesn't really make any sense.

Oh, wow!  That's excellent news!  I really hope they make plans for a sixth season of Futurama!!  And because Billy West said they've been talking about it, it sounds very promising.  

Anyway, sorry I'm late guys.  I've been kinda busy this week working on different stuff.  So you'll have to forgive my lateness.  XD

Okay now, here's the fun part.  Time for my review!  Yay!

I walked into the IGN theater and sat down in the front row.  There were two huge TV screens on each side of the theater.  I sat in the middle of the front row, because the seats directly in front of the TVs were "reserved" for members of the press.  I was very close to the screen on the right side though, so I had a pretty good view.  Now my memory is really rusty, so I can't actually describe each of the events and how they happen.  Plus, I don't wanna give the movie away either.  So, all I can say is that, this movie was AWESOME!  It was without a doubt, the best Futurama movie ever!  And I'm not just saying that.  I mean, I was literally cracking up while watching ITWGY.  The nice thing is that this movie reminded me of the Futurama series itself, in the way that the script was so cleverly written.  The dialogue was absolutely hilarious!  ITWGY will have you laughing every minute! Fry has lots of awesome one-liners throughout this movie, as does Bender.  There are also a few references to episodes of the series as well.  One reference takes place when Leela enters a room with her pistol and she yells, "Put your hands in the air!" and then someone's head-in-a-jar says, "Like we just don't care?".  Hehe, that was great!! =D  

In addition to the hilarious dialogue of this movie, I also liked the new characters.  Hutch, for example, is awesome because personality-wise, he's pretty much a duplicate of Fry.  He made some of the dumbest comments.  And there were some great moments between him and Fry. And oh yeah, I love the character Frida Waterfall!  She was awesome in this movie!  She enjoys making signs, which have rhyming phrases written on them.  And she also yells out these phrases, using a megaphone that she carries!  XD  She was using these catchy phrases in her protest against Amy's father and his golf course.  The women in this movie were protesting, because Amy's father doesn't allow women to participate or even be present at his golfing place.  So at first, the women revolted, because they weren't equal to men.   In the beginning, Frida Waterfall was in charge.  But later on, Leela becomes the leader of the group and they begin protesting against Amy's father because he wants to destroy this star which is home to many different life forms.  He wants to destroy it to make room for his outer-space golf course.  Amy's father plans to have the biggest miniature golf course in the universe.

Anyway, I loved all the scenes which took place at Mars Vegas (which is similar to Las Vegs, except it's located on Mars).  XD

Oh yeah!  Everyone in the theater cheered when Zapp Brannigan appeared in the movie.    

I found it odd though, that Bender and the Donbot didn't remember having met each other before.  Weird....  O.O

The Number 9 man was really cool.  He tells Fry that everyone in their secret society has been waiting for a time called "The Green Age".  Apparently, when this age begins, some sort of being (I forgot what he called it) comes  to preserve all endangered life forms, so that they may be recreated after becoming extinct.  He also talked about someone or something known as The Dark One, which would try and prevent this Green Age from happening.  The Number 9 Man said that Fry was special because his mind couldn't be read by The Dark One, due to the fact that he doesn't possess the Delta Brain Wave.  He goes on to say that The Dark One is someone or something whose mind Fry wouldn't be able to read.  Anyway, this part of the movie was very interesting and intriguing for me.  I like it whenever they talk about Fry being special and stuff.  Let's see, what else...oh yeah, I have one more thing to say.  For those of you who are huge fans of the Leela-and-Fry pairing, you won't be disappointed.  I think you will be very pleased with ITWGY.  Fry and Leela definitely become much closer, that's for sure.  However, Leela seems very confused with Fry at first, with the actions he takes in this movie, so she doesn't really understand why he's behaving that way.  Apparently, the secret society that Fry joined, has forbid him from telling anyone what they had discussed (The Green Age, The Dark One, etc).  But later on, Leela eventually understands Fry.  And I'm sure you will be very happy with what happens.  

The ending to this movie surprised me, but in a good way.  It definitely leaves the series open for another season.  And I've gotta say, I liked everything about ITWGY!  The progression of the story was just great. It was written very well!  And like I said, the dialogue was fantastic, as well as the voice acting!  The animation was awesome too.  Heck, I don't think anyone who's a fan of Futurama will be disappointed with Into The Wild Green Yonder.  Yes, it's THAT good!!!!  

Well, there's my review guys.  Although, I couldn't describe each and every scene from the movie, because my memory's not that great.  So those are just my random thoughts on the movie.  But overall, I can say that I had a very pleasant experience watching ITWGY.  The movie was exciting, funny, and packed with lots of action!!  

Having said that, I can't wait to buy ITWGY on DVD!  I loved it!

Brain was happy to filter those nasty logical thoughts that tend to ruin things seeing as the movie really was pretty good.

Eh, I don't think they really intended to portray natural selection as "evil", but I do think that their sloppy exposition of the subject left the impression that nature is completely deterministic, when that is patently not the case.

Sure, species do what they have to do to survive, but at some point the intelligent, powerful, free-willed ones (including humans, Encyclopods and Dark Ones) have to make a choice -- do they conduct themselves without regard for the rest of the environment, or do they try to live in balance with it?  Tragically (at least if you believe that life is beautiful and worth preserving), one of these races acts with disregard for nature, and another pursues wanton destruction and genocide.

I'm not a super-environmentalist by any means, but the question posed above is an important one, and it's too bad that it got garbled in the exposition.

Hey guys!  For those of you who don't know, I attended New York Comic Con last weekend.  So I was one of the first people to see Into The Wild Green Yonder. 

Here's my review.

Just watched it, absolutely loved it. Not only did it have the best story but it had the humour too. Certainly the best of the four by some distance.

Well...there's certainly a lot going on in this film and it doesn't take long to get started, Fry has his accident within four minutes. But that works well because it grabs your interest right away, the other movies took a while to get going but not this one.

The subplot with Bender and the Donbot's wife was amusing if a bit bizarre at times. It was a slight disappointment that it fizzled out into nothing without anything coming of it but never mind,  it provided laughs. As did the poker tournament.

The rest of it really would take ages to write about fully, it was an odd story but it all came together really well at the end a la BBS...the only difference being that this one was much funnier than BBS. I always said that BBS only lacked in the humour department and if they could get the plot AND humour right in this one they'd have a hell of a movie, they delivered in my humble opinion.

One of the reasons it works well is that despite there being three main arks going on (one each for Fry, Leela and Bender) they're all pretty interesting. Granted Bender's role is lesser than the other two but it plays a part...and his reasoning for following that route is typical Bender.

Everyone has good lines in this one, particularly Fry (but that's usually the case...his interview in order for him to get the job is golden), Hermes has some golden moments too when interacting with LaBarbara. I even found the Feministas amusing though I'm not sure why - however, that strange humour is the reason I love Futurama so much, it just makes me laugh.

Some reviews weren't too keen on the Fry/Leela element but I think they played it just right in this one. It wasn't overdone and whilst it wasn't as prominent as I expected it did end up playing a key part in the story given that despite everything being stacked against Fry, Leela still had to trust him right where it mattered. She seemed quite  receptive to him (surprisingly) at times but you really have to take into account that the entire series has been building this element of the show up slowly but surely and in this one Fry's dedication finally pays off right at the end. I was half expecting an ambiguous ending a la TDHAP but that wasn't the case. As much as a wuss it makes me sound the kiss at the end as they flew into the wormhole warmed my stony heart. Surely they can't retcon that, surely...

In fact the whole ending does leave you wanting more. As I watched the PE fly into the wormhole and the credits rolling I thought to myself "is this really the end again?" I've been looking forward to seeing the final instalment in the four film series for over two years and now I've finally seen it it's quite surreal. It's over again...or is it? And do I really want more?

Well, I always said that if I was happy with the ending and the movie in general (which I was) I wouldn't be too bothered if that was it. The show will have gone out on a high and with the loose ends wrapped up. I wouldn't say no to more, certainly not, but if that's it then well...I'm content.

And wow, you guys must be really impatient, huh?  I'm surprised that so many of you couldn't wait for the DVD release, and that you actually had to download ITWGY.  XD 

With the previous Futurama movies, I bought the DVDs first, and then I watched each of the movies shortly after buying them.  Personally, I like it better that way, cause my first experience of seeing the movie is on my TV screen (rather than on a computer sceen).

Of course, my exception to this, was the 4th Futurama movie because I got to see it so early.  And I've gotta say, watching ITWGY on a big screen was so awesome!! 

It makes me wish that I owned a projection TV, because Futurama is very fun to watch on a really big screen.  XD

Having watched the movie for a second time I've gathered more thoughts on it. I'll put the in spoiler tags of course just for the sake of the more patient among us who haven't seen it yet.

The first thing that strikes me is just how rewatchable it is. Usually movies aren't anywhere near as enjoyable on second viewing but I perhaps enjoyed this one even more second time around. It really is vintage Futurama from start to finish and it's hard to understand how any Futurama fan could have a problem with it. That said it'd be naive to think that you could please everyone and I don't really have a problem with the critics, as long as I liked it I wouldn't be bothered if everyone else in the world hated it.

The quality of the jokes played a big part in it's long term appeal. It's absolutely jam packed with good lines, it wouldn't really be an exaggeration if you said it's got twice as many brilliant lines as the other three movies put together because that's probably the case. It's also good that these brilliant lines come from just about everyone, it's not a case of it being just one or two of the usual suspects churning out the laughs. It's almost as though the whole movie was purposely showcasing the best of every character to make us miss it all the more if it does turn out to be the end. It's certainly Fry's best outing (and that's certainly saying something) and I'd say the same for Leela and Hermes too. The Number 9 man was also excellent and takes his place alongside the likes of the Robot Devil for best background character.

The ending certainly was an interesting one, especially regarding the dreaded reset button. Should more episodes be made I really don't think they'll ignore any of the end scene. The wormhole will have peaked interest amongst fans as to where it'll lead them to and they'll expect an explanation of some kind - whether they base the first episode on them finding their way back to Earth or just briefly explain it in a metaphor ridden opening sequence. Either way I think it'll be addressed, even if the wormhole as if by magic led them straight back to New New York.

But the million dollar question is whether they'll reset the whole Fry/Leela thing for the six hundredth time. My guess is that they won't mainly because the ending was too concrete for the reset button to be used. They'd have given us another sweet yet incredibly ambiguous ending like the Devil's Hands if they were planning press the reset button again rather than the surprisingly conclusive one we got.

Taking everything into account I'd say this is my favourite out of any Futurama episode or movie, they really got it spot on with this effort.

Hopefully! Though since the writers intend to make more episodes it's clear they're going to get back to Earth sooner or later so should those episodes ever get made they'll turn up to annoy us all once more.

I was pleased that neither were involved in ITWGY though.

I've just rewatched some of my favourite moments (though there's so many it's taken me about an hour) and had seen it two times prior to this.

It's got the best replay value out of the four by a long stretch, I've watched BBS a couple of times but only watched BWABB and BG once - ITWGY will get plenty of views in the future though.

Absolutely! Nixon's last lines are brilliant, particularly when Fry reads his mind.

There's so many brilliant parts, the poker tournament was great, Fry's job interview with Leo Wong was priceless, the Mad Fellow's scenes all had good moments and the few Fry/Leela scenes were all touching and well handled.

The ending was the best part though, just because it was so well done.

I had a third pass at the movie, so it's time to post a formal review.

My immediate reactions to the first viewing were that (1) I loved the resolution of the Fry+Leela saga and the final scene, (2) I felt rather tense and anxious (not a good thing for a Futurama show) during the last 30 minutes, possibly in anticipation of the ending, and (3) the epic ecological theme seemed very heavy and preachy, while the plot itself had some significant holes.

Upon repeated viewings, I was right about (2) above -- I was able to relax and enjoy the movie a bit more without the finality of the movie weighing so heavily.  However, the second half of the movie does suffer a bit from reduced breadth and impact of humor, and the problems with the plot still remain.

As others have mentioned, the first episode of the movie is mostly separate from the rest of the movie, and I don't think it's a bad idea.  It's mostly about the gang having fun in Vegas while the seeds of the main plot -- Fry's telepathic powers and Leela's opposition to Leo Wong's destruction of the environment -- are planted.  The ending to the poker tournament was one of the biggest howlers I've seen in a while, but other than that the whole Vegas episode was chock-full of laughs.  Next time I visit the Bellagio I will definitely remember to bring a roll of Mentos and a can of diet Slurm.

The main plot begins with the second episode, and it does a good job of showcasing our main characters.  Due to his unique delta-negative brain, Fry is enlisted in a secret mission to save the universe and is sorely tested when his allies are forced to abandon him and his closest friends are pitted against him.  Leela mobilizes a band of outlaw eco-feminists to stop Leo Wong's destruction of the environment, but at the very end of her mission has to decide whether to trust Fry when he says that she needs to hold up.  The ever-duplicitous and greedy Bender provides a key plot twist the way only he can.  Amy, Richard Nixon and the infamous Zapp Brannigan make key contributions as well.  The only character I was disappointed with was Farnsworth -- his ethical and professional lapses throughout the series are usually pretty comical, so it's upsetting to see him portrayed as a total crony.

Although the characters shine throughout the story, the plot itself has some problems.  It's really hard, at least for me, to watch the movie and not wonder:  How is it that a race of creatures who possess telepathic killing powers can end up helplessly confined to a tiny mud puddle?  Why don't the Dark Ones just coerce someone into destroying the violet dwarf star?  And so forth.  Furthermore, the ecological theme displays none of the subtleties and twists that characterize the other ecologically-minded episodes in the series.  Are the Dark Ones innately evil, and if so, should they be preserved?  The question is quickly rendered moot by a hungry Dr. Zoidberg.

I mention above that I think the humor in the movie suffers a bit once the plot really starts rolling in the second half.  After repeated viewings it seems to me that the lines are still there, but the problems are that (1) the elements of the plot are portrayed as so massive in scope that it's difficult to introduce levity with a just a few quips here and there and (2) for the most part, most of the jokes in the second half of the movie are repeated gags that have gone stale, especially the series of gender-typing jokes.  That being said, the cosmic absurdity of man imploding part of a galaxy in order to create a black hole for use as a golf ball sink is something that no other cartoon could possibly pull off.

The final scene provided everything that I hoped for. Leela's final words to Fry -- "Maybe I waited too long to tell you this, but I love you too" -- acknowledge Fry's years of longing for her (and by extension, the fans' years of waiting for resolution) without excessive sentiment or drama.  As our heroes take off for parts unknown, it seems to me that the show can end here in a positive place, but also that there's plenty of potential for adventure on the other side.

For what it's worth, I think another season or three of regular episodes would be preferable to more feature-length productions.  I think that BWABB is trash, BG consistently provides laughs but doesn't have a very compelling plot, while BBS and ITWGY both have epic plots that sometimes handicap the humor.  In general the quick wit and irreverence of Futurama seems better suited to single episodes (with a few long-term threads sewn in the background) than the story arcs of a movie. In any event, I'll be picking up a Blu-Ray of ITWGY on the 23rd (hooray Europe) and waiting to hear good news from Fox soon.

near the end when the leach jumped onto hutch's neck right before he died fry's jacket was red then it was blue again. don't know why i noticed that but i watched the movie alot so maybe that's why. this was just a great movie. i loved the ending ecspecially

Oh, I disagree. Partially. ITWGY has the best replay value, for sure. But Bender's Game has a lot that keeps me going back to it as well. Not for a whole sitting, sometimes just long enough to see one particular joke. But I keep going back to it' That's the main thing.

I might rewatch the other two at some point, but I doubt it. Currently, I'm combing ITWGY for goofs. I wanna be the one of the first to spot something!

I think I laughed the most during this movie than any of the other ones. It didn't seem like they were in the "4 episode" mode but more of the "movie" mode with this one, a stark contrast from Bender's Game. It felt like I was watching a Season DVD and this was an old episode, it just felt like classic Futurama, especially with the geek humor in it. It feels like this one will also easily fall into my everyday lexicon, as Bender's Big Score seemed to. One goof though:

Me too. Best part of all DVDs. Shame Billy West won't be in this one.
I wanna try get it on my iPod for my college trip in Amsterdam. (I'm buying the DVD next week, don't worry) and maybe the intro song, I love the writing, Seth's voice and perhaps most of all Christopher Tyng's background music is just perfection.

Oh, and if you feel like translating Alien Language, here's one for you:


I just watched the movie for god knows the how manyeth time, and I notice 3 Celine Dion references, first being when Leo said he'd throw them in with the hotel rooms and Bender telling him not to, second when Fry notices the sign to enter a Poker tournament where underneath it says all losers must attend Celine Dion concert and the 3rd when Number 9 talks about the Dark Ones and the Encyclopods.

I think thats it.

No. If they did, then that would kill the film industry.

Actually, I thought that would be one of the things that they mention on the commentary.

They do tend to mention the fact all Matt Groening's characters (with an exception of a few) must have four fingers (or less in the case of robots).

The Legion of Madfellows tells Fry that they have no idea what the Dark Ones look like.  They could be any race, any person.  The only real information they have is that the Dark Ones are the only beings in the universe whose minds can't be read.  So, when Fry meets Hutch and Hutch realises that he cant read Fry's mind, why doesn't Hutch immediately assume that Fry is a Dark One?

The Legion of Madfellows tells Fry that they have no idea what the Dark Ones look like.  They could be any race, any person.  The only real information they have is that the Dark Ones are the only beings in the universe whose minds can't be read.  So, when Fry meets Hutch and Hutch realises that he cant read Fry's mind, why doesn't Hutch immediately assume that Fry is a Dark One?

 

I wonder if they had to test him somehow. Or that they know about his lack of Delta Brainwave. Which I believe is the thing they said at the first meeting Fry had with all the mad fellows.

I have a question for all those that have seen it, Is it just me, or does Leo sound a little bit like Bugs Bunny?

Hutch explicitly mentions Fry's missing delta brain-wave, so it's possible that they learned about Fry's conquest of the Brainspawn from the Nibblonians.  They'd probably trust him if that were the case.

Are you kidding?  The copy I watched was so out of sync that the voices were a solid 3-5 seconds delayed from the person speaking.

Note to FOX:  I have not only purchased this DVD in Blu-Ray for my home, I've bought two separate copies in standard def for a couple of friends as gifts (via amazon.com).
