even shows like popeye, the flintstones and the jetsons are better then this steaming pile of shit that u people call a show. sure it might have 1 or 2 good ep's, but talking aliens, and stupid immature robots are elements that a child is attracted to in a animated TV series.

Those shows that you mentioned to above are great considering the time that they are set in.

  Where have you been the last four years since they brought family guy back. It hasn't been that great, and the fact is in mind is was never all that good, but you must really not like science fiction type of TV shows to come on here and bash the show that this forum is based on,  and argue that fact that family guy is better than futurama is in fact absurd.  Because Futurama actually has a good plot about it and has the season goes along it builds off of the other eps to make a really good story. There is really no point to Family guy because it just seems all to ramdon  to make any sense from it { at least from the eps of it that i actually can stand without feeling like i've lost brain cells over it.}

So, in a "mature" TV series (which, I assume, you would love because you're obviously such a mature person) that contained aliens and/or robots, the aliens would be mutes and the robots would only solve maths equations, or is the idea of aliens and/or robots in general just inherently a stupid and immature idea? Because that would make a lot of good movies apparently "stupid and immature".

Anyway, on topic:

Futurama
       |
American Dad
       |
The Simpsons (back in the day)
       |
Family Guy

And so on...

All differences aside, how in holly fuck could u put American Dad ahead of The Simpsons in the '90s? i like AD, but it has nothing on the simpsons at his peak which was about the early to mid 1990s. im sorry, but that is a stupid opinion

i consider u watch the first 3 seasons. back then the show always had a solid story, funny jokes and good character development. ever since season 4 while its still a great show, its never been as good as it was back then.

I didn't put American Dad above The Simpsons in the 90's, I put The Simpsons in the 90's above Family Guy now. I'm sorry but you're a stupid Internet troll.

Perhaps I should make my list more idiot accessible

Futurama
       |
The Simpsons (back in the day)
       |
American Dad
       |
Family Guy (First three seasons)
       |
The Simpsons (now)
       |
Family Guy (now)

And so on...

Because I didn't have new Simpsons in my original list and you got pissy about it. Why can't you spell "you" properly?

More importantly, why am I even arguing with Shot?

Although I voted for Futurama, because I like it more now, I do feel a little bit dirty for doing so.  The Simpsons revolutionised not only animation, but television in general. Homer Simpson as a character is probably known almost universally, whereas if ask a guy in the street who Philip J. Fry is and most people will just give you a blank stare.

The Simpsons is probably the best television show in history, but as others have said, these days I would be more annoyed if I missed a new Futurama than if I missed a new Simpsons.

Perhaps.  But everyone knows who Paris Hilton, but does that mean she is any better than say... Niels Bohr?

My argument is that using Homer Simpson's fame as a measurement of 'revolutionary' and 'goodness' seems a tad off to me.  In my mind, Futurama was the move the writers needed.  Basically since Futurama, Simpsons haven't been quite good.

The Simpsons is extremely good, even the lesser episodes are still more funny than any other show you see on tv.
But Futurama is just better!

FUTURAMA .. hilarious combination of characters.. ingenious storylines.. but seriously its cause:

its set in the future so the show isnt trying to force 'preconcieved notions' on kids, like the simpsons and every other cartoon out.

plus i wish i could run on alcohol. =(

This thread is like a bad penny. O well, I shall make a list of sorts.
Futurama
General Anime(FMA, Cowboy Bebop, FMA Brotherhood, blah blah blah)
King of the Hill
Simpsons
Family Guy used to be good.
American Dad is ok.

That is good enough for now.

Both for different reasons.  Simpson's is the classic and has a warm comedy while Futurama has some clever comedy and we all loving at Fry's antics

I don't know, I have all the Simpsons dvds that are out as of now and its gets old. I mean how many "dopes" can you take until it gets a little old. After sitting through how many seasons straight through I can tell you it gets old. Futurama never gets old, there is always something lurking in the background. I mean the Simpsons is fun to watch every once in a while.

I'd say Futurama at its peak is equally funny as The Simpsons at its peak.

But Futurama has ongoing story arcs, far more developed characters, real emotion that doesn't come off as sappy or cheesy, is far more intelligent and has much nicer animation and music.
Add to that that Futurama is far more high concept and high concept stuff is just more fun.

And Futurama never deteriorated to post-season 10 The Simpsons standards.

So Futurama is, in my opinion best, no conest.

Depends on how you look at it.  I still think The Simpsons (seasons 1-8) is a real contender for best show of all time.  At the same time, Futurama mops the floor with anything made after the eighth season...it really isn't a contest (although I haven't seen much the last 3-4 seasons of The Simpsons, or the last 2-3 at all).  And I think I have a bit more affection for Futurama at the moment since it never (so far) declined so badly, and has always left me wanting more.  So I'll go with that on the poll.

South Park is an excellent show.  I don't really feel the rest are worth discussing, with the possible exception of Venture Brothers.  Other than that the rest are garbage.
