When the Robot Mafia In Bender Gets Made was holding a robot dude hostage and he says, "Look into your harddrive".  That was a parody of "Miller's Crossing".

In "Insane in the Mainframe" when Bender and Roberto were running away, that was a rip on "The Defiant Ones".

He probably just learned the number-sequence by heart, mirroring some religious schools who favor teaching illiterate children to quote passages verbatim, rather than understanding what the text is about.

Nice call, Kurt.  I didn't even see that one.  Come to think of it, Bender & Roberto's breaking out of the mental hospital could also be a riff on "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest"...

From the same episode:

Nurse Ratchet.

'Nuff said.

This one's a bit of a stretch.  In the same episode, where Fry is in the loony bin & is convinced that he's a robot, it's a riff on an old Bugs Bunny cartoon where Bugs Bunny is taken to the loony bin, and is convinced by the Psychiatrist that he's actually Elmer Fudd.

Bugs Bunny: "My Name is Ewmuh J. Fudd, Miwionaiwe; I own a mansion and a yacht."

Isn't the Rocky III song actually Eye of the Tiger?
You're the Best, while written for Rocky III, was instead used in The Karate Kid.

Ah, that might explain why the last number he recites is '2'.

You're right about the music, Hobbitboy.  They're easy to get confused.

This thread could balloon up to an incredible size if we try and attribute the inspiration for every piece of licensed music that gets used in the show but...

one that still makes me laugh is the music that plays in A Pharaoh to Remember as Bender is walking onstage having just been introduced as the new Pharaoh, i.e. "Walk like an Egyptian" (or at least music in the style of its intro).

The sudden use of a song from so long ago plus having Bender moving in time with the music and having him actually doing the moves that went with the video of the song all add up to a moment that is way funnier (at least to me) than it ought to be.

Don't know if this has been said, but "Roswell That Ends Well" is a riff on the movie "All's Well That Ends Well".  Probably have, but [scruffy]I'ms saying it just in case...[/scuffy]
