This Leela episode was better than Cyberhouse Rules IMO. It was one of those emotional episodes that literally left you waiting towards the end because Leela didn't discover the truth about her parents until then. Somehow though, something seems to be missing. Maybe it's the lack of focus on most of the other characters in the show, but the Professor with his toxic machine was a good run. I think the ending felt like a cliffhanger; like it should have said 'to be continued' in the end. Hopefully, we will see more of her parents this season.

I guess they have to, or not? Other way it would be some kind of...I don't know. There has to be more of them.

The only thing that dissapoints me about this episode is that it has brought closure to one of the most intriuging aspects of Leela's character. One of her main goals in the whole show was to find out who she really was and where she came from and now, just at the start of series 4, it's all over. I think this ep should have come along later. I mean 'A bicyclops built for two' was a great ep and we could have had a lot more eps like that about leela trying to find out about herself before we saw this, it would have made the final answer all the more sweet, IMO.

The bit at the end of bicyclops with leela looking out the window and the music playing was one of the nicest and most beautiful aspects of that series and it's a shame that stuff like that will never get followed up now.

That's the only problem I can think of.  They could have played upon that story for a few more eps before she finds her parents.  Searching newer worlds.

I follow you nasteve. It could have made her goal become more puzzling. Searching for your identity is a very common theme found in many series. Maybe we can find out if Fry has any other relatives that the DNA machine didn't pick up.

yeah they could have waited, but i think they suspected that they were getting canned and wanted to solve that particular mystery before the series ended.

I agree; I would probably have liked it MORE if her parents escaped and Leela didn't learn the truth until a season or two later (but tell us who/what her parents are; give her no clues).  They could keep the same ending though.  It might have been even more touching.  But of course, then the series would end and it would be depressing with no closure.

I can't say that I feel Leela is less interesting of a character now that she knows she is a mutant, and knows who her parents are.

One interesting thing to note though: Fry is now even more alone than Leela is.  Her arguement has been, "at least you HAD parents."  Now it is more like, "well I have parents, and friends, and everyone you ever knew or cared about is DEAD"

Remember, kids, she has parents, but they're parents no one can ever know about. Mutants are, in society's eyes, not deserving of basic rights or respect, not to mention not allowed aboveground-- more than likely Leela would be deported, or at the very least ostracized and treated like scum. Lucky she has Fry who doesn't care, huh?   ;)

Ok I have watched the episode again. My opinion has changed. The episode was kind of uneven, there were some real strong points and some negative. First the negative, the humor was a little flatter then usual, Luck of the Fryish had strong humor with the emotion. Some of the jokes this time just didn't work (the Balloon, the father's line before he left Leela, some others) Also the narrative could have been done in a more powerful way. Leela's parents shouldn't have appeared after the first act, ruins some of the surprise later in the ep. Also the flashback seemed to be out of place, it would have made more sense right after Fry took off the hoods, the only problem was the time between the two flashbacks might be too small. Now the good.  There was some really creative camera angles, especially when Leela was chasing after her parents. Small details in the background in the sewer, the zoom down from above, and the amazing ripple effect in the toxic waste. The returning mutants had good scenes, good additions of the leg mutant who will probably appear again. Leela’s parents didn’t have a lot of screen time now have interesting psudo-Jewish personalities; hopefully they will become minor reoccurring characters (like Hermes’ wife or Scruffy) The voice acting Katey Sagal did a great job, was surprised how emotional she got was near the end.

Some quick notes
Thought the Song sounded a little like JPOP

Just thought of another character's reaction that should be good.  How will Zapp react when he finds out that he didn't bag a sexy alien babe, but a mutant?  ;)  I really want to see an ep where Leela "comes out of the closet" about being a mutant and has to deal with the consequences.

it might be a coincidence or NOT, but you can tell when a program's gonna end when they give away the top mysteries, like where leela's parents came from

speaking of which...IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW! hehe  :p

The problem in my humble opinion (it writees there?) is the lack of time, the episode has too much content, probably for 1 hour, and they only have 22 mins.
