Now imagine if Amazonia was a planet of giant men who sentenced Leela and Amy to death by snu-snu.

Imagine that. The Fox network would have been forced to shut down overnight.

But men don't really mind being made fun of in that manner, so the episode does border on a nice bit of social commentary...

I'd give it a C-.

Only Xanfor could make me see that the guys were sentenced to death by repeated rape.  That kind of brings down the mood of the episode....

I love this episode for Kif (probably the last episode where I found him "likeable" as a character), but I mostly adore it for Zapp and all the hilarious antics that accompany him.  Even now I can't listen to "Lola" while keeping a straight face.

Xanfor, you are sooo much not a real man.

To quote Fry:  "I never thought that I'd die this way, but I always hoped!"

And considering Amy's history, it may be thw way she'd want to go, too.

Now the nauseating thing to me was that Bea Arthur was involved with this episode.

What's so bad about Bea Arthur. Granted I don't know who she is. I'll comment more after I actually watch the episode. I've been... sidetracked.

Addition as watching episode: I love Zapp's "no fail" pick up lines. Fry and Zapp's faces when they find out how they are going to die are funny. I don't know about other girls but I know I'd hate that planet only women... I like my men.    :D  :flirt: I love Kif in this episode he's so sweet. Zapp just makes this episode funnier. He's such an idiot he can't do anything without screwing something up.

I have to agree. That is Zapp's absolute best moment im my opinion. Really his best episode.

I dunno, to me it's just an extension of the "Benny Hill" death sentence (being chased by a topless squad of co-eds until you fall off a cliff) - silly humor that appeals to the fourteen year old boy in all men (90% anyway).

Ok, I give up.  What's the joke that Lew Morton based this episode off of?  He refused to say it on the commentary on the basis that it was "too dirty" (I think).

^^ Leela in her negligee, worms or not, is much hotter  :)

The whole Fantastic Voyage/Inner Space part was hilarious (Bender: ABANDON SHIP!!!), although one would think in the future, they'd still have effective anthelmintics. I liked the joke when Fry fights the worm king, he enters the elevator and the bottom-most floor is the "Ball room"...  ;)

Despite the shippyness, I must say this episode doesn't cast Leela in a good light, she appears somewhat superficial. [Farnsworth]The final, debilitating stages of womanhood?[/Farnsworth]

Thank you.  I didn't hear the punchline properly, and I was too lazy to rewatch the episode, so I didn't know what the original word was.

Well, I probably would say Leela in the negligee was hot but I'm straight sooo... yeah. I love that joke too. So funny. Pretty much the only joke in this episode that I ddi not get right away was the one where Zoidberg come in on the sperm and is like "You'll never guess where I've been." I can't believe that I didn't get that right away. This episode in one of my favorites.

I never read that before it's really good. It also makes me alot less critical of Leela in this episode. Which is impressive because it's probably one of mabey three times that my mind has been changed in less than five minutes. (In case you don't know I'm incredibly stubborn.)

I prefer the first X-Mas episode to this one, but it's really hard to beat Zoidberg pretending to be Jesus.

Itīs definitely worse than "XMas story" as it is less or more only comedy episode and  even the jokes themselves are of changing quality and people mistaking Bender for the true Santa-bot is kind of too absurd but it has itīs moments - elves song, Santas + Jesus, final rampage, atc.

Nice fic Shiny wrote there (read it before), but I don't see how it's relevant to my statement. I must just be stupid.

I missed the fact that the Neptunians were gay the first time I watched this. Zoidberg as Jesus has to be the funniest visual on Futurama!

Both of the X-mas episodes are in my random top 25, and I don't necessarily feel that the first one is much superior to AToTS, just different. The song is my second-favorite after the Robot Hell bonanza; I especially like the line "If I wasn't stuck here frozen I'd harpoon you in the eye". Also like "What the hell is Kwanzaa?"

The whole sequence with the magnet and the random number generator makes me laugh as well.

Today is

Luck of the Fryish

To me the ending wasnt very touching, I didn't feel sad at all, mainly because Bender dug up the grave and asked if Fry wanted him to beat up the coarpse, or the song, the lyrics were right but the beat and style of the song made the song stupid for me, unlike Jurassic Bark with a sad song and no comedy relief, just Seymour waiting to die.

"This is the best DVD commentary ever!"

Personally, I think that song was perfect, given all of the Breakfast Club mentions scattered throughout the episode.  And the lyrics were so effing fitting....

And I thought Bender added a much needed laugh to that ending, but I'm weird like that.  In fact, my favorite part of the commentary is not when they break out into "Nobody Cares," but when they're listening to Yancy's monologue at the end and DiMaggio and West suddenly start ad-libbing lines for the baby ("I can't breathe in here!" ) and then Ron Weiner tells them off ("Some people are trying to cry here!" ).   :laff:

Weiner tends to write Bender as a very selfish, jerky character (see: "A Pharoh to Remember" ), but when that attitude's used in brief instances like it was in this episode, it works for me.

This episode's always really hard for me to watch, for a variety of reasons, but God I love it so.  It's still my favorite of the entire series after all these years.  I still get a kick out of the search page on the Farnsworth's computer looking remarkably like TFO's forums.

The song was fitting, they could have edited it a bit better, though. I liked this episode mostly for all the 80s references thrown in.

Could someone explain the "Fryrish" bit? I never quite got that.

I think it's "Fryrish" rather than "Fryish" because the "r" emphasizes that it's a take on the phrase "the luck of the Irish."   Without the "r" it's a marginally less obvious parody. :P

Oh what a fantastic episode. High in my top 25. I love the nostalgic feeling to it and the unexpected nature of the ending. I didn't see it coming at all. The seven-leaf clover is a wonderful symbol and I also love the line "I can't wait till I'm old enough to feel ways about stuff". Classy.
