While talking to CINESCAPE’S Anthony C. Ferrante for the March issue of the magazine, FUTURAMA executive producer David X. Cohen reveals the writing staff is governed by a high-tech washing machine.
“One thing we have that most shows don’t is a washer/dryer” Cohen said. “In fact, we’re the only show where while the writers are working, they’re all doing their laundry… [It] is right next door [to the writers’ room] so people are pitching jokes and the washer will go ‘annnnnnnnk’ with this load buzzing sound. So in a sense, the dryer will reject people’s jokes.”
On a more serious vein, Cohen talked about some of the frustrations he’s had with FUTURAMA’s network, Fox. In its 7 p.m. Sunday time slot, the show often goes unaired during football season.
“We did 24 episodes last year, and I believe 10 went unaired,” Cohen said. “Then we made 18 more, so we have 28 episodes in production that have not aired, with 15 scheduled to run this season.”
For this and a whole lot more, including an interview with FUTURAMA’s other creator Matt Groening, check out the March issue of CINESCAPE, on stands February 19.

more from me! that girl who never goes away!
Page 55: "they have a slogan for Sunday nights that says, 'it all starts Sundays at 8 pm.' It's very complimentary for The Simpsons, but I have this other show. I complain about it and then they take the slogan away for a few months and then it's back again." -matt groening
page 56: "Take, for example Odenkirk, Kaplan and Keeler discussing the possibilities of parallel universes - an idea that became the focal point for the upcoming, The Farnsworth Parabox episode."
page 57: "'The last episode scripted for season 4, we were thinking that we wanted to hedge our bets just in case we're cancelled so we wanted to end on a touching note,' says Cohen of The Devil's Hands are Idol Playthings, which features Fry making a bargain with the devil to compose music that will show his love for Leela.' The end result is an opera in the last third of the episode, which Keeler is penning himself. 'Calling it an opera is a bit misleading,' says Keeler. 'The episode doesn't wrap things up, it doesn't end like a terminus, but it's not open-ended either.'"

It's you! That girl who never goes away! The Parabox ep is neat. Zoidy really likes that box. Yeah, "It all starts tonight at 8!" What an insult. I hate those announcers. Sometimes they get me so mad I JUST WANNA....!

I'm glad the final episode has been written with the prospect of being the final one in mind. It should be a gem but when I finally do get round to watching it I will cry because there will be no more.
Hopefully by then another network will have it though and I won't need t cry at he end.

it's not " the final episode" it's " a final episode" it's not supposed to be the finale, but it will probably end up that way. bastards what's going to happen to the show's "expansive mythology" like "Fry and his purpose for being in the 30th century" huh!? huh?!

I hope we find out the real deal with Nibbler being in "Space Pilot 3000", hopefully "The Why Of Fry" will clear this up, hopefully.

I, for one just want to happen. I don't want the show's focus to change. They can do what they want off screen. Also, in real life office relationships, it can help. The X-files isn't losing points because the stars got together, it's losing points because those two stars are leaving. Also I haven't watched it enough recently to know what exactly you're talking about.

You mean like Ross And Rachel? I don't know, not exactly my favourite part of Friends. I don't think a Fry/Leela relationship would be good idea right now. Not enough jokemateriel, other than what has already been done to death in Friends. The tension between them is better, and still leaves room for some sweet moments. With a steady character development, it could be done in 2-3 production seasons time, but right now that looks like wishfull thinking. But then again, what do I know? Looks like I'm gonna be wrong on the alien/mutant thing, so why not here too?
