Can you prove that Futurama is a large-scale money-making endeavor?

Futurama rulz, FOX sucks

Do you think FOX would take it seriously after that?

No, they wouldn't. Which is why it should be edited daily. Replace swears with ****, etc. And fake looking names should be changed if they draw comical attention. It should look serious.

Sarge, you're in the know, is there any way that they could pick it up for more episodes after they're done with the buildup?

Who, me? I'm wearing a cardboard belt!
I don't know if it's been done before, but I could see a slight chance. There's a few big hoops they'd have to hurdle.
Say season 5 (made up entirely of season 4 eps) airs next Winter and they want to make more...
They'd have to re-hire the voice talent (who will now want big pay increases because of the lapse of a year), & they'll want at least a 2 year contract.
Curiosity will be who knows where in a years' time. Most writers like them jump onto other sitcoms & late night comedy. This would be the hardest stunt to pull...to get most of the same writers back.
Rough Draft will want a larger budget (because of that same lapse), & they'll have to hire a bunch of new people because half of their old crew is spread all over the planet doing something else, which causes a strain on production because newbies aren't as good as the ones who had years of experience.
More important, Fox will need a $ strategy for all of this. The bottom line is all they care about.

Eh, it's what we use. It's greed of money that sucks. Compromising good entertainment for the sake of a few more bucks in the hands of those who got enough to buy several planets is what really sucks. I say, make a show or 2 in the red to show the audience you DO care about them. At least it's good publicity. Hell, even Al Capone knew that.

See how much trouble it is to get a show back up? That's why it shouldn't get cancelled in the first place! Silly Fox.

Want to make a big diffrence? Boycott Fox's advertisers. It's the matter of the all mighty Buck. Take some of that away (like get a Hersheys bar instead of a Butterfingers) and they will listen.

Online petitions are a joke to them. You need to hit them where it hurts the most. The advertisers.

Hey, no one in their right mind is going to fake-post a dozen times in a petition. It will get pointless.

The petition seems to be going at a blazing rate of 40 sigs per minute! Nice. We hit the 12000 mark 5 minutes ago.

I've seen multiples of the same names on single pages. They are clueless. And probably doing it on purpose to stop the show from being renewed. Remember that turd who posted here hating Futurama today? Bingo!

when you send a letter to FOX be sure to talk about all the futurama merchandise you have bought or are "planning" on buying.  Also it doesn't hurt to explain how you often watch more fox shows that you wouldn't watch it futurama was on.  And it wouldn't hurt to explain that you have bought several products advertised during the show.

You could also write letters to the advertisers

Me and my friend started our little war against Fox today, and there's a couple of letters on it's way to the US right now. Remind Fox about Futurama in any way imaginable! Send e-mails to other Fox departments if necessary.. And don't write "Fox sucks, I want Futurama dammit" in the Subject line! Make them think it's something interesting (for them), and then bombard them with Futurama propaganda.

Well said VF.  Do we know who regularly advertises during Futurama.  If each of the advertisers knew that we would be upset with them if Fox stops production of Futurama, them might start putting financial pressure on Fox.  Financial pressure is the only thing that will really get Fox exec's attention.  Talk money and they suddenly listen.

Advertisers buy air time, and those that sponsor a prog will just sponsor its replacement. Even if sales drop by a percent or two as a result of this, it will be blamed on the down turn of the American economy.

I think targetting Fox is the only real option.

Egads, I've become a bending unit, no more pizza for you lot. How does this rank thing work anyway?

Look in the peel museum for a full listing of ranks, But basically, the more you post, the higher your post number gets, and the higher your rank gets. You can find your number of posts in your profile  :)

Torq, putting pressure on advertisers has worked in the US in the past.  As a matter of fact I seem to recall something to do with Fox and Married with Children being pressured to make changes because of advertiser pressure.  That pressure came from viewers telling the advertisers "continue to support that show, and we won't support you"  I really think this is worth looking into...

Yup.

But I still think it's true that unless a good case for ROI is shown to Fox Execs, they're not going to give a rats a$$ about our beloved show.

Hurray, I'm maybe helping, why not.

Actually, all that this did was give MWC more publicity and turn it into a real hit instead of a cult program.

Hmm... maybe we should join one of those fundie gorups and start protesting Futurama.

You are right that MWC ended up more popular as a result of the protests but Fox did institute some changes to the program as a result (short lived as Fox began their slow decent into becoming a hardcore porn channel) and more importantly it showed that advertisers can and will put pressure on broadcasters if they feel their market share is threatened.

PS maybe we could get some church groups to start picketing Futurama - that always seems to boost ratings

This is what I posted on The X-Wing Alliance Upgrade forum

"Hello friends,
this is completely unrelated to Star Wars or X-Wing or anything like that but to all fans of the great Matt Groening show Futurama, and even those who don't like it or don't know about it please go to this site  http://www.petitiononline.com/futufu/petition.html  and pledge your support to keep it on the air.
In other words those f*ckheads at FOX are thinking about canning it for no reason what so ever and we need to show them that we won't stand for it. Please sign the petition and help save a great show.

It will mean so much to so many people.

Also, please don't turn this into a Futurama discussion thread. This is just a request.

Thank you."

What do you think?
