Of course. It deserves a longer run. And there isn't much we can do about it: it's coming back and that's that. =P

That is a pretty stupid question to ask on this board.

^lol. Well, I don't remember the source that reported that "Futurama" is coming back (to Comedy Central), but I was reading an article about "The Simpsons" on AOL, and it mentioned "Futurama":

"Groening's schedule is especially full these days. Besides his work on "The Simpsons," he and partner David Cohen are bringing one-time Fox series "Futurama" back to TV with new episodes on Comedy Central beginning in 2008."

^Now it's official, since for me, it's from a more credible source.

Maybe a more useful question is: How long a run should Futurama be allowed to have now that it has been brought back?

I dunno about you guys but I don't want to see my favorite show go the way of the Simpsons and end up so stale that I can't watch it anymore.  I'm hoping MG gets his 30 extra episodes (and maybe a few more), but then I'd like to see the series end while it's still fresh and original.

i was going to post that  :( anyway i think it should be brought back for about 5 years which would take it to season 10 which is the  final season of the simpsons that made me laugh

I agree with both of you. They should bring it back for a limited number of episodes.

However, I hope that they will not stop to make nerdy references and jokes in the show even though it might get a broader audience in the future.

Another thing that concerns me: What will they do here in Europe? I hope that the DVDs are being released at least at the same time as in the US, but what about broadcasting the new episodes?

I think it should last as long as is needed to fully close the story arc. No more, no less.

That would be me.

I always do that on polls like these. I mean, is there any other outcome to this poll than a resounding "yes"? Then what is the point? It's equivalent to asking the Democratic National Convention if George Bush is a bad president.

I'm worried about that too.  That's exactly what happened to family guy (granted the humor was never even close to as nerdy-clever as futurama to begin with, but still), and now FG is so stupendously mediocre that I go whole episodes without even chuckling.

@Venus: I dunno, the story arcs could conceivably be closed in a season if MG wanted them to be...  After three years of waiting for new futurama I want more than that.  Also, there's still enough <Zapp>Hutzpah</Zapp> left in the show for a few brand new arcs to be created.

I recall posting something along these lines in another forum.

    Bottom line?

I like love Futurama because it has three main attributes:
    • Humor - It's funny!.
    • Heart - It has characters you care about.

      And,

    • Head  -  It has obscure, esoteric references to science, technology, and science fiction that make we Internet geeks connoisseurs go raving NUTS over!
C'mon what other show could crack wise about math, Cosmology, or Physics,
      AND MAKE IT WORK?
So long as Futurama has these attributes, I say keep making more.

You know I'll be watching...   ;)

Well, I think it depends. If whomever runs CC thinks that the stuff Matt and David X. (with help of numerous others) write is crap and try to overrun it like Simpsons pretty much has been, I'd say no. If it comes to be the same as it already is, with it's edgy and comedic p[erks, then I'm all for the return.

I disagree.  If the stories can have good content and not get dated and stale like The Simpsons or the Star Trek francise, then I say close old arcs, start new ones and let the series have a second, healthy 5 - 8 year run.

Yes, yes , yes. No if its not gonna be the same. i dont know about later seasons of simpsons cuz in aussie land we have crap programming, i'd have to download about 200 eps of the interweb if i wanted to catch up.

But i do have to ask, what is the futurama main story arc. i didnt realise there was one. go on, bag me out, everyone else does.

    You closed the thread.
It is now pitch dark. You can't see anything. You are likely to be eaten by a Grue.

You moved, attracting a Grue. The Grue ate you, causing agonizing pain as you died.

Futurama can and is coming back!  Wish we knew exactly when in 2008.  It's going to be so cool!  Futurama has heart, social commentary, and a brain.  Besides, there's already a thread like this anyway.  Futurama is coming back in 2008, so leave your uncertainy about it at the door!

I thought it was coming back in 2007? eh, I'm not really sure that it is commin back. I mean I'm not positive it's not, but I'm not positive it is. I've been let down with others shows that were "supposedly" coming back and never did. Who's to say that this won't be one of them?

Exactly, If the show is entertaining, who cares how long it runs for?

They have recorded the voice tracks for the first two Futurama movies. I'd say it's a given - it is coming back.
