Marge is a weird looking woman?  No more so than any other female on the Simpsons.  I think you're stretching a little there.  Let me help, you meant to say both Simpsons and Futurama have women.  Now the statement lines up with your other shallow arguments.

Woah people people. Settle down there. In addition to those FishyJoe both have fat alcoholics (Norm and Barney) if you count that since Woody has been mentioned already.

NORM!!!

Coach: Can I draw you a beer, Norm?
Norm: No, I know what they look like.  Just pour me one.

Perhaps, but I think Homer's more like Norm than he is like Cliff.

I think that Homer was compared to Norm indirectly during an episode, where he walks into a Cheers Style bar. The one where he got barred from Moes, and crashed a plane.

That wasn't just a Cheers-type bar, that WAS Cheers! They even got Ted Danson, Woody Harrelson, George Wendt, and John Ratzenberger to do the voices!

Back to the topic, Futurama has tons of things to offer to hardcore Simpsons fans like myself, who like to blast through every quote for the right situation. It has humor reflecting that of the classic Simpsons, stuff I haven't seen OFF do in years. Their cast is just as original, what with the different quirks and all. 1000 years in the future is just good enough for the series to really break the boundaries for plot-making. Hell, Futurama has a deeper, more serious storyline than The Simpsons.

<speech>
Futurama is the one and ONLY show that actually made me go buy the DVDs (never bought one ever before, i could always *cough* get them some other way if i wanted...).
Not to mention the 3 day long traumatic sadness i had to go through when i heard that i would have to wait for 5 solid months before season 4 started. And when i heard about its hiatus status, i couldnt believe my eyes. Actually, im a hard core PC gamer and have been playing PC games for at least 3 hours _every_ day (on average) for the last 8 years.
However, i havent even touched a PC game since i heard of the dire Futurama news. And that was many weeks ago. My friends just stare at me in shock when i tell them, i dont think even they believe that _one_ show could have such an impact of a person.
But it has on me, seriously. I can only hope events will one day turn out for the better and until that day i will continue to struggle (with the rest of ya) to ensure Futuramas continued lifespan

I forgot earlier, but welcome to PEEL static :)

My friends and teachers think the same thing, they can't believe I can like it so much. I was really angry and upset when it went on hiatus, and it showed.

Yeah welcome to Peel Static.

BTW do you fancy joining my guerilla warfare outfit, we have declared jihad on the dark forces (I.e. FOX) that blight our beloved Futurama. any weapons you can muster will be greatly appreciated, (so far all we have is 2 swiss army knive's, a homemade catapult, a broken toaster and an AOL CD thats been cut in to a crude ninja star  :( )

The AOL cd would do as a weapon of intimidation if it were in one piece (or so im told).

I found out about futuramas fate at about the same time as "where no fan has gone before" was aired in the US. When you dont really worry about the fate of a show but think it will just go on and on and on you tend to concentrate your mind on other things and just look forward to the next batch of episodes to watch.
That was exactly what i had been doing and frankly the only reason ive even joined the community now is because i didnt even know (or cared) that it existed until the horrible news.
I wrote earlier that im a PC game freak, and that is exactly what i have been putting my mind into up until recently.

This is how it was:
Upon reading that "where no fan has gone before" was the season finale i went to #futurama on EFnet and started to discuss about the season being so darn short. In response i got "Where the h*ll have you been!?". With a puzzled look i asked about it and well.... thats how i more or less gave up gaming (for the time being anyway) and fully focused on futurama and its fan community.

There! My lifes story (at least the latter part of it)

and oh! Thanks AZ!   :)

Does that mean you'll be leaving if it doesn't get renewed for a 5th production season?

I dont know. i seriously doubt it.
As i stated earlier, no show has EVER affected me the way futurama has and i would become completely out of my mind if i never got to see it again.
Still, time heals all wounds (almost) and if the show were to be killed in the horrible gruesome way that FOX execs dream of every night, then i suppose that after some time i would leave the community as life goes on.
But i would NEVER forget about Futurama. Its gotten a permanent location in the back of my head.

Yeah I know what you mean, to me, Futurama is better than any other TV program, any other film, or any other watch able medium on TV. The way I feel about what Futurama's done for TV is the same way I feel about what Prodigy's done for music. I've idolised them, no matter what other TV or music comes out, I'll always compare it and never be satisfied, sad but true.

Still, shows like Simpsons (seasons 5-8) and DS9 rivals Futurama. There are certainly watchable shows out there, and those two can outperform Futurama when done right. But Futurama does stand out as a ray of sunshine in a bleak world of reality shows, game shows and "Worlds Blankiest Blank".

I think that I have a cunning plan...

Perhaps the show might be able to survive if we can produce Flash animations, obviously the voices will be impersonated by Jeff and VF(C), and the animation done by Sarge. If we charge people to download them, PEEL will become rich enough to purchase a small TV station in Arkansas, and will broadcast our own shows that make fun of FOX, and promote all the shows it cancelled.

Arkansas TV will become richer as more and more tune in to laugh at Murdoch and his band of arseholes. so we will upgrade, and beam around the world our message putting FOX out of business. By then, PEELvision as it will be know will have enough cash to buy the ruined FOX empire, and recomission Futurama indefinately.
Schedule for Futurama once PEELvision takes down FOX:
reruns every weekday @7.00
new episodes from 7.30 till 8.30
reruns till 9.00

All other times, TBC.

OK, my comparisons seem to have sparked a global argument, but IN MY OPINION Futurama is too much like The Simpsons to run. Someone out there must admit Futurama's best series was it's first. It's gone down since then. The episodes just haven't been as good. And I think that's the reason Futurama went off, because they already have a show like it. THE SIMPSONS! That's why it's not there anymore!!! So  :finger: to anyone who thinks otherwise.

Sure there are hits and misses in every season. Who can argue convincingly in favor of "The Cryonic Woman" and "Lobstertainment", even though the do have their moments. They can't all be knee-slappers. Every season have their ups and downs, but overall I'd say the quality of Futurama is very consistent. Just take a look at season 4. All-time highs such as "Roswell", "Leela's Homeworld" and "Where No Fan..." coupled with good solid eps like "Love & Rocket", "A Leela of Her Own" and "Godfellas". And still we have questionables such as "Pharaoh" and even "AOI II". No biggie.

But we're all entitled to an opinion, I just ahppen to disagree with Kif's opinion.   :)
