I wonder if there will be a trailer for the Futurama DVD movie?  After all, Family Guy had a trailer for the DVD movie "Stewie Griffin The Untold Story" so, why not a trailer for the Futurama DVD movie?

MATT Groening goes back to Futurama and talks the Simpsons movie.

Quote
iF: Do you pick it up from that point (the end of TDHAIP)?

GROENING: We definitely address that we haven’t been around for a few years, in the opening scene of the first episode. There’s a very lengthy acknowledgement that we’ve been gone for awhile. It’s very funny.

Looks like a somewhat clean slate, maybe set a few years further down the line?

Quote
iF: Was it fun coming back to the FUTURAMA world?

GROENING: We had a lot more ideas, and there are many things of "what were we going to do, I can’t remember?" so we had to come up with a bunch of new stuff.

Though luck shippers, the "she must be the other one" line is out.  :p Or is it?

That sounds a lot like what Family Guy did at the beginning of their return episode...

I doubt it.  The series started from the beginning to be about Fry and Leela.  They may bury some of the 'ship' factor for the first couple of DVD's or put it on the back burner, then get things going again.

Dammit!  December is still 9 months away!

But the annual Comic Con isn't, and animatics will be shown there so we can expect our first fix then, if some kind person records and uploads them that is...

GROENING: It’s going to be on Comedy Central, starting at the beginning of 2008 and I don’t know. Fox has an option, who knows. I hope so, that would be nice.

I so hope FOX plays them...

If I owned something small and convenient that could take video footage, I'd try.       :hmpf:

...Although, are people even allowed to take videos of the animatics?

Further reason to frown upon that cameo.  :p

I'm actually imagining an intro very similar to the beginning of The Venture Bros.' season 2 finale.  It would make absolutely no sense (although would be an ample supply of freeze frame gags, I'm sure), but I can see how something like that might be funny... to the crew.

Do you think he's pulling all of our legs with this licentious octopus or did he get a serious episode idea from some twisted fan art? (Not that I spend any time looking at such graphic profanity...oh, my no.)

Sarah Silverman is great but I'm glad it's just a cameo so Michelle doesn't permanently distract Fry from the real prize.

There's a new interview with Katey Sagal up.  Not much new information, but here's the relevant portion:

Quote
Recently, I spoke to Matt Groening, and he said Futurama is coming back. Were you excited to get the news that you’d be reprising your role as Leela?
Yes, and I’m sooooo glad. We’ve done eight of the 16 orders so far, and they’ve just been great. I always felt so sad that it went away in the first place. It seemed so silly to me, because everyone loved the show. My hope is that we will continue, and that Comedy Central will pick up way more [episodes]. I think it will do really well again.

Was it fun connecting with your castmates again?
Oh, yeah! Everyone is thrilled to be back. It's a love fest!

This time around, did you offer the writers any ways to improve on the character? Or do you add a lot of improvisation, as some animation actors do?
Not really, you know? They do such a great job that I don’t feel I need to add anything to it.

What’s the storyline for these new episodes?
It’s basically “the further adventures of...” More wackiness ensues.

"...continue...way more [episodes]..."

Hey, that's great - even if it is just a voice actor's hope. At least it means they have not been given any hints that it's going to be sixteen and end of story.

Before Futurama's announcement of coming back, I was always most worried about Katey Sagal coming back. Seeing as she isn't on any DVD commentaries, and she has such a busy schedule, I always thought that she would be the hardest to get back. I am so happy that she is back and that she's happy to be back and would like to carry on way past the confirmed sixteen episodes. This is awesome news, and it's inteseresting to know that eight have been recorded so far!...

HipNoJoe: Matt Groening is a voice actor too now? I had no idea.

Otis: The movies and any subsequent new eps probably pay a lot better than commentaries, therefore it's a bit easier to arrange a professional acting schedule around them   :)

Xan: Don't be such a downer. He can freeze himself if he wants.
Of course, thawing himself back out is a different matter...

re: upcoming movies/season...

A censor-baffling alien nudist AND a gigantic octopus/mass-rapist? Who wouldn't be excited?

I can see the plot now... Elzar wins the title of Iron Cook again, and for some reason, Bender can't win it back. But then, he falls in love with a new intergalactically famous robot TV chef... Rachel Raygun! And together, they defeat Elzar and kill all the humans!

With all these interviews with the voice artists of Futurama, That's all the proof I need that it's coming back!  Now that it is coming back, will one of the characters be a punching bag and the butt of the jokes like Family Guy did with Meg?

This might've been brought up before... but anyone else feel a bit uneven about the choice of director,  Dwayne Carey-Hill?

His only director credit is "Obsoletely Fabulous", and he has a few Assistant Director credits:
    • Crimes of the Hot
    • The 30% Iron Chef
    • Leela's Homeworld
    • That's Lobstertainment
    • AOI II
    • A Clone of My Own
ie. only one top-25 episode ("Aoi II", according to CGEF and FM:TLZ). And a bunch of mediocre ones. While the direction of "Leela's Homeworld" were pretty spiffy, his rap sheet really doesn't seem that impressive.

Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised, but I'd be much more comfortable if they'd gone with Peter Avanzino, Brian Sheesley, Ron Hugart or, my personal favorite, Rich Moore.

I must have missed the spoiler that revealed who the director was; this is the first I've heard of it.    :hmpf:

AComO is a guilty pleasure of mine, and I actually love the directing there (especially the escape sequence in the third act), but everything else listed is either neutral to me or stands out in my mind for the wrong reasons.  "Leela's Homeworld" in particular has always felt choppy to me (please don't kill me).

The writing is what usually wins me over, though, so as long as Ken Keeler's still involved, I think I'll be satisfied.

Whatever happened to Chris Louden?  He directed three, IMO, great episodes (Shoulder, AOI I (with Moore), and Fryrish) and then disappeared entirely during season 3.

Found it on IMDb. Was the first time I heard of it too.

According to Sarge, Chris Louden returned to "The Simpsons".

Another director I would consider was Susie Dietter. The work she did on Godfellas was awesome.

Maybe those episodes aren't the best in terms of writing, but in terms of directing Leela's Homeworld is probably my fave episode of the lot, it has so many great shots. A Clone Of My Own also ranks highly on the directing front, but how much input he had as assistant director on those eps is questionable...
