A 'strait' is a relatively narrow body of water seperating two landmasses. I think the word you wanted was 'straight' as in 'direct'. STRAIGHT to DVD.
We're being told late 2007 or 2008. At this time it's no more specific than that.

They plan on four straight-to-DVD movies which will also be cut up into four TV episodes each (16 in total??) to be broadcast on Comedy Central. They also talk about a 'new season' of Futurama on Comedy Central to be comprised of 13 episodes. What is unclear is if the 'new season' and the 'DVD movies' are one and the same, or two seperate entities. I'd prefer the latter, 'cause it'd mean more Futurama.

Yes. I suspect they'll be better when viewed in movie format (ie - no break in between 'episodes') as that is how they're being designed, as movies. The dividing-up into seperate 'episodes' seems an afterthought to enable them to be broadcast in the same timeslot as the rest of the show's regular TV episodes. But on DVD we'll get them as movies, how they're intended to be seen.

* insert shit-eating grin here* Are there any new characters being introduced in the new season that you’re excited about?
COHEN: Yes, particularly Nudar, the evil alien nudist. We’re not sure what the censorship issues are as far as showing unrecognizable alien reproductive organs. I guess we’ll just put it on the air and see what happens. ...I'm not sure what to think about that one. :P

@Nicky boy: Uhh, no. It was David X Cohen. [smart-ass remark deleted] Well this news sure made an otherwise craptastic exam day worth waking up for . COHEN: By the way, we are looking into producing a full 22-minute episode of Everybody Loves Hypnotoad for the DVD release. I am serious. awesome.

That interview is just what I've been waiting for Often with shows it's never "in the bag" until production has started, after which point there's too much money already invested/ contracts written for it to be worth the network killing it. And Nudar, yay! Also really interested in the decision to have a 2-year gap in the plot... I guess they're trying to keep the show so that it's always set roughly 1000 years into the future, and explaining any character aging with TMLH

Perhaps the Comics are being considered as canon and the two year skip is due to the Comics taking up that time.
My theory of Fry/Leela after 2 years is they tried dating after TDHAIP but it didn't work out for some reason or another. Nice, simple solution.
The main thing about that article isn't Nudar, although he sounds funny, and the greatest thing to happen to Hypnotoad, but the fact that DXC talks about both a new season and a DVD. Either he's using the words "season" and "DVD"(okay, I know that's not a word, but deal) or he confirmed there's a seperate new run and DVD(s).

Hmmm.... if the movie(s) are a seperate entity to the season as Cohen may or may not be inferring, then the two-year gap might be when the movie(s) take place chronologically, with the new season coming after.
I base that hypothesis on absolutely nothing.

According to previously released information - much of which is in earlier pages of this very thread - indicates the DVD's are to be divided into 22-minute segments. Said segments are to be aired as new episodes. Did I miss something?

Did I miss something? Yes, but I think there's still a question mark about if the divided movie sections are the new season, or if they will be made in concert with a new season.

Which is my point: The last information I heard (at least) was that the original material in the movie(s), DVD’s, episodes, whatever, was to be divvied into 22-minute segments for broadcast as “new episodes.” In other words; it’s the same stuff, only packaged differently. So, what have I missed?

...Nothing, I just haven't heard it specifically clarified that those repackaged segments you're shouting about, which we already know about, ARE in fact the new season, or if there will be a season of regular episodes AS WELL. Probably not, it's just a very slim hope for more Futurama.

All I know with this new Futurama is I won't take it for granted, I'll enjoy every second knowing it could end anytime like last time. I am hopeful that it shall continue for many many more seasons just like it should have in the first place, but I am just so thankful that it is coming back at all.
The Nudar character sounds awesome, I love how already they are testing and pushing bounries of things which haven't had boundries set before. Sounds like an interesting episode. And Hypnotoad, you can never have too much Hypnotoad. I expect to see Hedonism Bot back as he is mentioned and they obviously liked that character enough to squeeze him into Devils Hands. Seymour and Nibbler, it will be interesting to hear some more back story. As for Fry and Leela's relationship, it's all well and good as long as they don't let it get in the way of the comedy...
