Today the latest issue of DVD review came out and it had a two page review of Futurama Season One. Overall it scored highly attaining a Five out of Five.

Final Verdict:
Picture ****
Sound ***
Entertainment *****
Extras ****
Value ****
Overall *****

Some quotes from the review:

"At it's best, Futurama is easily as funnyas a top-whack episode of The Simpsons"

"The audio commentaries are nearly as entertaining as the episodes!"

"Even a comparatively weak episode of Futurama is better than 90 percent of the dreck currently found on TV"

Heres the bit that doesn't make sense, "The picture is crystal clear and full of vivid colours - far sharper than the first Simpsons boxet set, probably down to Futuramas extensive use of computer graphics". The reason it doesn't make sense is because when DVD Review did a review of The Simpsons Season One, they gave the picture four stars, Futurama also got four stars for picture but in the review they say the picture is much better.

The sound only got three out of five which is even less than The Simpsons Season One! I think that the sound is better but the reason for the low score is becuase it's not in 5.1.

It was in the "Website/reviews" section. I know, next you were gonna say it's only reviews about websites.

The sound is in stereo (2.1) or is in dolby? (3/4/5.1)??..

ì understood that the Futurama DVD is un normal stereo, but a DVD magazine writed to me (as webmaster of LPPF) to tell the date of the release in Spain, and some details, like picture quality, extras and more, but the interesting and controversial point was that they told me that they have a DVD for test and it was in dolby sorround and "a good and real dolby sorround"....

are they cheating me?
or FOX send them a dolby DVD so they made a good review while all DVDs for sale are in simple 2.1 sound?

we have another mistery

Hee hee... I love abusing my position as editor to give stuff I like good marks and lots of space in the mag...  :D (Hey, I even managed to sneak three MST3K reviews into the next issue!)

The 'not making sense' bit about the score for the picture is down to the fact that different people did the reviews (I mentioned the MPEG banding in my review on ANSTATMAW, but didn't have space to do it in the mag). In these situations where two reviewers contradict each other, *I'm* always right. I love being the boss.   ;)

As for the sound, it's basic stereo, which in my book qualifies as average, hence three stars.

It was a very good review and I'm pleased that it recieved five stars over all, you helped give the show some much needed credit. I noticed a mistake though, there is a picture of Bender beside the part which says "GET BENT" on page 47 and I can see that he must have been turned round because the cabinate opener is on the wrong side. This same picture is in the magazine on page 34 but is is the correct way round on that, I know I'm being very nit picky.

the DVD magazine writed to me again and confirmed that is in Sorround 2.0 , but they told me that it sounds better in normal stereo .

only thing I think that could've been better on the DVD is:

5.1 sound.  :D
A longer documentary - five minutes is way too short  :(

well if FOX did release series 2 on DVD, it would only be good news to the continuation of the series (think about it, whats the point in releasing a DVD pack only a few months after theyve cancelled the series?) so fingers crossed

(btw, nice nick lol)

An advert in the series one video said series two would be out on video and DVD "soon" but didn't say when.

I found some info about Season 2 realease dates in Australia (using Google). You can see the links Here! Again, I don't know anything about the reliability of the sites, but they seems to support each others claims (about the season 2 set being released on June 5th 2002).
