A movie what would you do?

I've been hearing rumopurs of a Futurama movie, as yet unsubstasiated I'm afraid. My question to you is whhat kind of film would you make it, obviously there will be comedy but what else would you put in there.

For example would you make it a mighty action movie with tons of explosions (mainly caused by Zapp) and little plot.
A stiring space opera with emotional leanings.
Or a flat out standard episode extended into a 2 hour motion picture.

I know which I would like  but which onn would you like?

For a start I wouldn't make it 2 hours long.

Why not I sat through three hours for Lord of the Rings. How bad is two?

The problem is finding a decent plot that could sustain a 2 hour movie. It would be very hard to keep it fresh throughout.

That said, I would go for comedy. That's the main reason we watch the show. And Zapp blowing up things, well that's just his way of comedy.

There is room for developing the relationships between the characters, but comedy should be the main part. Don't ask me about a plot, because I don't have anything to offer. At the moment.

According ot Groening and Cohen, the movie wont be made until the series has ended. So let us hope it'll be a long time before we see a movie.

I would try to make it like one really long episode, to tell the truth.  It would have it all, though.  Star fights, ground fights, invasion, comedy, wisecracks, romance, hot naked alien sex (Kif and Amy, anyone?), and an ending so brilliant . . .

I think that it shold be 75 minutes long and have at least one super expensive CGI scene, maybe near the end but also have a romantic and emotional tie in at the end to balance with the eye candy. I would like to see a 3D part at about 5 minutes and I would like them to go into the inernet at some point.

As for characters, I would like to see every character from every episode at some point even if they don't speak, like the Hypnotoad, Crushinator, Roberto, Steady Eddie etc. I would also like plenty of references to events that had happend in the episodes, which would help bridge the film with the episodes rather than making them feel totally seperate.

As for plot, I would like plenty of planet delivary but also plenty of it set in New New York so that we don't get bored and we don't feel alienated by a planet we have never seen before being the main focus of the film. I would also like to see a climax to Leela and Fry getting together properly.

Well those are some of my thoughts, they included a lot of "I want this, I want that" but if some of that stuff was included then it would be great, especially when combined with other peoples ideas and jokes.

I'd go with some plot with a twisted ending. I just love those. There will of course be romance and action. It'll be a good two hours and it'll come on at 8PM on Sunday.

Personally I would like to see it on the big screen. 
As for it being like an extended episode I don't think that would work. I think it would have to have something more to keep interest for long enough. I do not know who here is into Anime but I'm a fan of the Tenchi series( stay with me I'm going somewhere) I have yet to see the first film but the second was much like an extended episode and did not hold my attention, the Third is quite different from the series but in my opinion was sheer brilliance  . I know thae saying if it ain't broke don't fix it but in film I think Futurama could reach greater heights if it tries something new.

I think a big screen action/comedy would work with a little bit of romance of course.  I would just love the big screen, surround sound CGI battles *drools*  Futurama: The Movie.  I guess we can all dream *sigh*

(Ominous flyby of an Omicronian ship)

Lrrr: Show... no... mercy.

(More space battles)

V/O: And the fate of the universe... lies in the hands of one delivery boy.

Brain Lord: Surrender, Philip Fry!

Fry: Like HELL.

V/O: Nicholas Brendon. Jeri Ryan. John Dimaggio. William Shatner. Linda Park. Bea Arthur. And Robin Williams as Doctor Zoidberg.

Zoidberg: I'm saving the universe with friends!

V/O: Futurama: The Motion Picture. Starts everywhere September 31st.

Just one thing why Robin Williams  sure I like him i  some of his films but I think he could not do a good a job as Billy West.

although i do think it would be better animated rather then live action. Hopefully after i've finished college and become a very succesful movie editor i can edit the Futurama movie trailer! Or even the movie....

Alright I agree on it being an animated film but what is it were an live action? Would you cast as the characters? I've ghad a few ideas but they are pretty lame     it may be because I know voice actors better than I know real actors aaah well.

by the way Futurama is not an animated series that can be "converted" to real world, i mean, today is very common see movies in "real world format" from old animated series, like Scooby Doo, Rockye and Bullwinckle, Inspector Gadget, Spiderman, etc (this last surelly works, but the rest no i guess) , Futurama is animated, we all know all characters animated, and animated should remain...
(i`m pretty sure that nobody will make a "RWF" South Park movie isn`t?)

I agree no live action, but if it is animated it still leaves a few options.
In ohter words should it remain faithful to the TV shows anmtion, be totally 3D, be done Anime style ( I think that could be very cool)

When they're gonna make a animated Futurama movie, they should keep it like the cartoon. Anime? Definately not.

I agree, they shouldn't make a live action movie, the discussion in the thread was purely hypothetical.

Kryten, Christopher Lloyd. I like that, he's pretty good as a half-mad, half-insane scientist.

You can not dismiss Anime with out a good reason  . In comparison Anime looks much better than any American cartoon (which are done in Korea) just look at Princess Mononoke to see how beutifully animation can be. Give me a good reason and I might change my mind.

Hey, I'm not trying to diss anime as such, it's good animation in it's own cartoons, not my favourite though.

But for an animated Futurama-movie, I don't think it would be good. We're used to the normal American (Korean?) style of the show, and a new style would just be confusing. The anime I've seen is too, how shall I put it,....lifelike? It's very realistic and pretty true to anatomy, something I don't think would go well with Futurama's more out-there feel. I see big problems with making a good Bender, Zoidberg, Leela, etc. if you have to stay true to anatomy. And thoose big pupils, I find 'em kinda creepy. You may disagree, but this is just IM(NS)HO.

I saw Princess Mononoke and wasn't impressed in the least. Anime is kinda creepy and the way they have their charactors make expressions is downright annoying. I'd much rather let Disney butcher Futurama then have anime.

Fair enough I thing we have established that Anime may not be such a goog idea  . Oh and Venus you are entitled to your opinion but lets get a few things straight a)Disney bought Princess Mononke and put it on limited cimema release basically because they did not want the competionm b)Disney sucks all it does is butcher good stories and gives them happy endings life isn't like that. C)Granted there is some creepy anime out there but Princess Mononoke is not I think it tells a very good story and the animation is simply astonding d)just wondering if you noticed John DiMaggio (if you saw the English language version at any rate).

Anime has its place, but not here. (BTW, Simpsons don't air in Japan because their culture considers 4-fingered creatures the lowest form of life) I am thinking it could be done as 3 regular-sized eps, kinda like a long-ass Anthology of Interest. There are some horror flicks that follow this style.

Yeah it should be just like regular futurama....only longer!!!!

And a more detailed story...something like 'A bicyclops built for two' would make a good film. You need some romanc, some badies, storyline etc..all the usual ingredients of a film.

I'm still not convinced by it being an extended episode  instead it should have something extra perhaps a few musical numbers like the South Park movie.
