Is it just me or is Futurama drawn much better than The Simpsons?  If so, why?

Because the colors arent so similar from surface to surface and alot of the stuff they do involves 3-D computer stuff, plus when they created the simpsons they didnt have alot of technology at thier disposal and they arent going to change the style halfway through just because they can, it worked at the time and it still works now so why change it and futurama had alot more available to it when it first started.

I noticed in the last Family Guy episode I saw that they used some 3d animation in it.  I was shocked.  As far as I know, that's a first for them.  So I guess it's not totally out of the question for an established cartoon to update it's visual style a bit.

Okay... Futurama was drawn, animated, coloured, and "scrubbed" using a computer. They're magic boxes that do things beyond your simple ken. The operators are underfed Korean employees of Rough Draft.

The Simpsons is drawn, animated, coloured, and spat upon by underfed Korean employees of FOX. That's the difference.

@CrapBag: Type using words insread of letters, or they'll get you. They'll get you hard.

It's not really much better, if you're comparing it to the Simpsons eps that were made at the same time as Futurama, but if you're comparing to the older Simpsons, like Season 1 for example, then of course Futurama is higher quality, because of the advances in technology, and the cartoonists knew what they were doing.

However, since Futurama is set in the future, they have a lot more spaceship scenes and high tech stuff that persuades them to use 3D a lot more than the Simpsons.

As I remember, when Futurama was originally aired on Fox and early on in the Adult Swim run, the quality as not as good as [AS] is running now. There were little flaws in some the images, especially little circles or dots around the eyes that blanked out pupils and other stuff - almost like the old "change reel" marks on old movies.

It's like when they produced the DVD's either they went through and cleaned things up or they were able to take the time to do it right. Sort of like remastering an old music album.
