Negative, no. Realistic, yes. If you've done this type of animation then you know that us fans can't produce Futurama as we see it on TV. BTW, welcome to PEEL.

What makes it even harder is the fact we all live in different parts of the world. I don't think the original plan was to make it as good as seen on TV, we just wanted to make it watchable, as good as are capabilities will let us.

This maybe of interest to anyone thinking of animating it the old fashioned way. In 11th grade, I did 2 weeks work experience at an animation company. With my piece, I completed every step myself (and this only includes music, as there was no voice-over), and after 2 weeks, I had 30 seconds of (not broadcast quality) footage.

OT, but nifty new avatar Ben. I was so used to seeing Slurms that it's strange seeing someone else on the surfboard.

Go for an animatic; you only have to draw 1-3 frames a second (if that), and hand drawn looks more like futurama than flash.

you must not draw every frame complete. i think we use a easy-to-use program, loading the background paste the animation phases from the characters in it, create an avi file add the sounds, coded it with divx5 and voilá, it's done.

The sigs are enough for me, though I have an avvy drawn up. Maybe after I hit Liquid Emperor...   :)

I think I already posted this, but the uncredited comics "Love Potion #000010001" and "The Right Way And The Wong Way" at ANSTATMAW would be great sources for a starter. They're well-written, funny, accurate to the show, and "Love Potion" is SHORT, which would help--and it's got a nice bit of "tease" between Leela and Fry.

Who did these, by the way? Anyone know?

Hey people,

Wow, my first ever thread still has the odd reply filtering in! Thankee to everybody who's jammed in their oar!   :laff:

Even if nothing comes of this (most likely) I think it's still maybe a good idea to keep the thread going if only to discuss the practicalities and keep the idea going just in case.

And BTW, the fact that I'm still here after all this time is testament to the (mostly!) nice people at PEEL - thankee all, for making me feel so at home.   :)

Enjoy the new batch of siggy's...  :)

Disregard mP, very few people are able to find any coherence in her posts, but they're entertaining from time to time.

The picture in the clip is nice, but I can't understand what the voice is saying, and I have a fair amount of understanding of German (if have to say so myself    :p).

I haven't read the entire thread, but I recall that was one of the obstacles, voices. That and the fact that people here are spread all over the world, and hence making fan-episodes are extremly difficult, even disregarding the copyright-issues.

Welcome to PEEL, Bofr@. Enjoy it here, and good luck on your project (I think you're going to need it).   :)

"The picture in the clip is nice, but I can't understand what the voice is saying"
Thesound is not ready, it just says what the text at the end will be like and we will also make a english version of the movie. so it'll take some time, but it'll be finished sometime.
here's again the thread http://www.hipjoint.de/index.php?act=ST&f=19&t=148&s=35c9e4de1a132afafbb62037002bf854
it has 375 replys and was watched 4449 times

This really is kind of a good idea.  And if you do it in Flash, it wouldn't be SUPER EXTREMELY HARD, just REALLY REALLY HARD.  It can be done and look really good try www.killfrog.com  that guy does all his stuff in Flash and it looks good.  I've found a good flash program out there that does 3D images too.  But flash doesn't use 3D images so it changes them into bitmaps, I think. It's called 3D Flash Animator and it's pretty good.  The thing about Flash though is you don't necessarily have to do it frame by frame.  You can use commands to take an image from point A to point B, flash kind of morphs it for you.  You'd need some people to do voices and sound effects, but that's just people with microphone.  You'd need someone that does the pictures, that's just scans, but they'd probably need different angles etc.  And last of all you'd need some people doing flash.  I think the hardest part of all would be doing the mouths because of synchronization.  The thing is at 5 to 10 minutes the file starts to get pretty big (check out that link I put up earlier), mostly you'd want a short plot, i.e. Bender wants to do something by going somewhere.  Then you just throw a couple of jokes in.  Anyways if you really plan on doing it, I'd wait a few months (make sure Futurama doesn't make a huge comeback which I'm still hopin for) then set up a headquarters (website) and get on a chatroom to talk about it (I propose #futuramachat!) and get about at having it done!

MAN I typed WAY too much  :nono:

 http://www.roomwithamoose.com/zim/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=13
(I'm Invader ZAK)

THIS fan animation thing is going down smooth because they walked the walked, and not just talked the talk. Although there was a lot of talk before they got going, why don't we circumvent that? Lets DO the project, and lets get SERIOUS about it. To all naysayers,

A. Its illegal! FOCKS is going to spank me! wa wa wa!

No, your wrong, shut up you stupid dork.

B. You need a staff team of 58 jillion people!  wa wa wa.

No, you don't, because it's been done with a handful of people, which that link shows. You moron.

C. Im lazy and my muscles don't work! wa wa wa.

Then get out of this topic, we don't want or need you.

A further note, do it in flash, and use Monty Python's style of animation. The cutting pictures up and moving the seperate parts style, except because it's flash, make it smooth. Anyone that KNOWS how to use flash WELL, but doesn't have it PM me, no n00bs.

And no stupid friggin' Fry X Leela storys. That's not what Futurama is. "50 bucks? Not even if she WAS my girlfriend. You can have her".

If this is done, you'll be looking for plots that the actual Futurama team could actually use, not stupid fanfics, follow-ups of previous eps (there could be an exception to this, but probably isnt) or Jivefunk style unoriginality.

Also design a full 13 ep season of SCRIPTS and build around that, length of eps should be consistent.

No introduction of -major- new characters, under penalty of death. Scan art a bunch of background people/aliens for the backgrouund.

No plots involving number 9 guy, Zombie Jesus or any other throwaway characters or references to things, such as the various planets mentioned briefly, but if the crew do travel to another planet, don't name it something stupid like 'Amphibios' *pretends he hasnt seen 'Kif Gets Knocked Up A Notch'*

My episode idea,
Igner is revealed as the proffesors son, and Igner, Walt, Larry, Mom, The Proffesor, Fry and Cubert all attend a futuristicly slanted version of Jerry Springer. This would suck if it were poorly written, though, it's just an idea...

A final note, sample; A the little bit of music played when doing a long shot of the PE building, and use that shot as often as the show does, the 'street' theme played for a moment in maybe... War is the h word(?) and the 'dramatic' sound effect.

the above is SUGGESTION ONLY. Don't want to sound bossy now...

Don't burn me for double posting, but I can't edit ART. I just want to say that all those that nay-say my picture(graphic)-flash combination style of animation arent going to be doing much else they want to fully animate 10 characters at about 10 different angles plus about 5 more for each ep. The good thing about this style is that we need minial flash artists (which are MAD hard to find, especially GOOD ones that like actually WORKING) and more scan artists and storyboardists which we will have no trouble finding around these parts. Some 'proffesional' is going to nay the crap about of me, so eat a dick in advance. Also, stop scaring Sarge away. You know what I'm talking about. Oh, and Danny, I hate you X Infinity.

perhaps you don't know that there is already our futuramaproject, but it's only 10% finished and most of the work is done by me, so if some people who know something about flash could help me grab the pics and charakters it would be finished much earlier http://mitglied.lycos.de/demboard/

Yeah, but it's in Sillyish, the silly language. It's also rather silly. I like the audio clip-fan voicing combo but they're all low-ass quality. The backgrounds in the first scene were good, but the second scene was retarded, and although it looks like ou tried pretty hard on it, sticking to simple frame lip syncing instead of weird mallable mouths would be better. But, it doesn't matter, it's in sillyish. I'll be back here in 20 hours. I EXPECT PROGRESS!

sillysh?
du bist vieleicht n bischen beschränkt im kopf,
das denke ich zumindest!
I think you didn't notice that the sound is put into the animation at the end, when the file is ready, so the sound now only says what at the end will be said on this place of the scene,
and the avi files are only previews and they don't have the quality of the endmovie.
And I'm looking forward to your "PROGRESS",
we will se how good your movie'll be

see ya (in 20hours)

Err, I meant progress regarding -A- project. Not SOME project. Everyone should get cracking on constructing a team, or something. Getting something done. Which is why some project leader should be appointed. Anyone 'high up there' that wants the job would be perfect.

You have some really good stuff to say, and I agree with most if not all of it, but I'd still rather make episodes when that's the last thing left for us to keep the online stuff going.  Hey do you actually have any of those flash episodes of Invader Zim, and is that show still going I really liked it!   :laff:
