Question on "H-Word"

I have a bet going about "War is the H-Word." Was Leela masquarading as Lee Lemon in any way a reference to Mulan? I say nay, but I can't find any information confirming or denying this.

I don't believe it's directly related to 'Mulan'. As Nasty Pasty said, "The idea of a woman dressed as a man to join the army has been thrown around alot..."

Women dressing as men was fairly common during the Civil War.  Some historians estimate no fewer than 400 women donned either blue or gray.  I'd imagine it was easier to do when nobody expected a woman to want to fight so nobody would check.
