I dunno if anyone's mentioned this before but VH1 is showing old episodes of "Ren & Stimpy" weeknights at 12am eastern and pacific. The 30 minute timeslot is called 'Ren & Stimpy Rocks!' and it's hosted by Billy West. He was the voice of Ren and Stimpy, but you might know him as Fry, Professor Farnsworth, Zapp Brannigan, the red M&M and many other characters. Good chance to see him if you don't know what he looks like!

Yeah, I saw that. Real stylish lookin guy. I remember reading an interview in which Billy said his actual voice sounded more like Fry than any other character (but I think that was just within Futurama). He does sound like a lower version of Stimpy, though. That voice has a scratchy quality that Fry's doesn't have. I think he does the Honey Nut Cheerios bee nowadays. Anybody agree with me?

I remember from a radio interview that Billy West patterned the voice of Stimpy after the voice of Larry in The Three Stooges.  So to me, Stimpy sounds like Fry trying to imitate Larry Fine.

Too bad I have no background to make any sort of connection there.

Well, Billy West originally was only the voice of Stimpy, not Ren.
When Nicklodeon fired John K, the creator of Ren & Stimpy and voice of Ren, Billy took over both voices. He did an OK job, but John K's Ren Hoek was much better, AND the show really sucked after that point anyhow (IMHO).
However, I have heard Billy West take credit for both voices before, which is kinda lame if you ask me.

Every time I heard him take credit, billy west says he is the offical voice for ren and stimpy, as well as george jetson, woody woodpecker, the red m&m, etc.  I have never heard him say he created any voices except for the m&m, the stuff on howard stern, futurama, and some other obscure stuff.

I am sure he is proud of doing many voices, and says he did ren and stimpy (which he did).  I agree that Ren and Stimpy got pretty bad there towards the end... I wasn't a huge fan to begin with, it was extremely strange, and got really really weird.
