why don't they ever show Leela without her lip stick on?

Maybe it's not lipstick. Might be some sort of 31st century perma-tint.

It's not permanent, she needs to reapply it with the laser thingy.

They could have shown her without lipstick in scenes where you wouldn't expect her to be wearing it (in bed, after a shower). But.. I've drawn Leela without lipstick and it looks really weird - probably why the animators never removed it.

It's not lipstick - she just has naturally pink lips.  When she puts lipstick on it, it just gets darker.

Some women's lips are rosier than others.

Anyway, her lips probably aren't the same color as her feace anyway.  And I'm predicting...character forum.

Oh I think that bio-tech in 1000 years might be quite startling to us 21st century folks, perhaps more than machines. I think you can have a tatoo process done now, mostly reds, if you want. I was thinking more of chromatophores from squids and octopi being implanted in tissue. Then use a laser type  device (attractively packed of course as a lipstick) to signal them to reflect the desired wavelength. Just don't ask how they get the chromatophores.

Just one sampling from a "How to Draw Leela" DVD capture. It varies quite a bit pixel to pixel but should get you in the ballpark.

in one episode you do see her with no lip stick. its Bender Gets Made. Leela gets blinded by Elzar's spice weesle,and cant put her lipstick on properly because she cant see, and on one sid it isnt on her lips.
