This is a thread dedicated to all those moments in Futurama that you admired even though there was very little comedy to be found. Anything involving, say, action, awe, drama, etc.

I find it hard to believe that there hasn't been a thread exactly like this before, but I didn't come across one during my rather extensive searching. Eh, here goes.

-The big battle in When Aliens Attack: It was only about 30 seconds, but the sheer number of ships, lasers, explosions, and what have you were very impressive. It's scenes like this give me a taste for a Futurama movie.

-I thought the whole episode of The Day the Earth Stood Stupid (besides being very funny) was very well structured. That very creepy beginning with the brains that tells us know that in one day, Earth is going to be in major trouble. Then, the focus shifts to Nibbler for about six full minutes before the brains resurface. At that point, both plotlines dovetail with each other. The ending with the Big Brain was very climatic, I thought. The music was great too. Overall, I thought this was one of the most "Epic" episodes of Futurama, while also saturizing those really bad B sci-fi movies from the fifties.

-The ending of The Sting. Enough has been said about it already, but I had to mention it.

That's is for now. I have more, but something tells me this thread won't have a long life.  :hmpf:

There are quite few moments that are impressive without any comedy to it. For me these where the 3d model for the titanic for example. Amazing shot!

Oh j_ohanley, there is the Nice Touch Moments Thread   ;)

edit: ... started by the girl in the post right above me.

Saw it, considered it, but realized that the two threads probably have different enough aims.

-The chronitons in Time Keeps on Slippin'. The area never fails to impress me. So beautiful, all those pink dots reflecting off the PX ship and whatnot. Also, there's some really good music whenever Leela is using the gravity pump and when Bender is planting the Doomsday Machine.

I don't know why, but whenever Leela is standing next to someone talking, she moves her pupil to look at the talker. I love it when she does that. (Again, I don't know why.)

[ex.] In "How Hermes Requestioned His Groove Back", Fry and Leela are in the doorway when Hermes just discovered his trashed office and is near the door sulking. Fry says something, and Leela moves her pupil to look at him.

Don't they all do that?

What, move their pupils? I guess so, but I notice it most (and like it best) when Leela does it. (This is assuming you're talking to me.)

Leela cocking her head to one side.
Her humming in the beginning of Godfellas.
And of course, the sewer pose in SP3k.

Anything Leela is fantasic. Even her saunter down the hall of the Nimbus in LLLiS. All of her movements and stances, though often subtle, are very effective.

^Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I love it when she cocks her head too.

@ Eyedol: Yeah i was talking to you.

@ Leela in Chains: Yeah, Leela is usually pretty good for some decent body language, have you noticed she almost always walks with her fists clenched? How's that for never letting your guard down.

I do that, myself.   :p Eyedol; if there is anything else unusual that we both have a thing for, I will be very scared.    I like her focus shifting as well. It is more prominent with Leela than other characters, probably because of her singularity.

I maintain that the best 5 minutes of the series are the last five minutes of Luck of the Fryrish.

That's the word I was looking for. 'Focus-shifting'.

I think the last 5 minutes of The Devils Hand were one of the best endings ever in the whole series. Same goes for The Sting and Luck of the Fryrish. I'm sure I have more.

The End Of Leela's Homeworld.
The Opera in TDAIP.
The Ending Of TLOTF.

And Heaps of others that I can't remember at the time. (Or to lazy. Either's good)

oh this scene:
Brannigan begin again when Zap tries to cut the ribbon from his ship!

He grabs a handle on the console and moves it through Stun, Kill and Hyperdeath ™. He presses the Fire button and the laser shoots a laser beam towards the space station.]

[Cut to: New DOOP Headquarters. The laser cuts the ribbon and everyone applauds. The laser carries on cutting and cuts a huge stone statue of Glab in half. Everyone gasps. The laser carries on cutting and everyone stands gobsmacked. The station starts rumbling and explodes. The reception area breaks off and hurtles off into space with everyone still screaming.]

[Cut to: Nimbus Bridge.]

Zapp: Whoopsie-daisy.

I like the scene where Nibbler first talks in The Day The Earth Stood Stupid. It's so cute, even though the voice doesn't really suit him.

Well... yeah. I think that was the point.

Personal favourite is, of course, the ending of The Sting.
Second is the ending of Jurassic Bark, mainly because of Shiny´s fic... Really, she lifted that episode from a great one to one of the very best.

Like many of you have said, the ending of The Sting is absolutely beautiful.

The Holophonor scene in Parasites Lost was fantastic. The animation was lovely, and who doesn't love sea otters?

Finally, the end of TDHAIP is beautiful. That music always makes me a bit sad.

The line "Scruffy's rolling out a large pill," from KGKUaN always gets me.  It almost seems like the actor accidentally read the script direction at a table read and it was worked in.

I also happen to like Bender's little look after Leela's line "...And you were stepping on them for fun..." in TPWP.
