it was said on one of the AOI commentaries that they had to cut a load out of it to make it fit into the slot, and they said there was a few hours cut out,and that the stories made no sense without the cut parts.
do you think it should have been a movie?

They said quite often on the comentaries that episodes that had to fit into the 22.5 minutes where really longer when they have been produced.  So that they needed to cut avay parts, also of the main plot, to make it fit.
