If you listen to some of the audio commentary on the dvd sets of the seasons, you hear matt groening talking about thinking about making a futurama spin off!

Now that would be a cool idea, but i dont know if there going to do it, seeing as the commentary was probably made about 2000.

The show has been cancelled, so therefor, they cannot do it. End of thread.

If my commentary memory serves, "The Adventures of Zapp Brannigan!" wasn't a proposed spinoff, but rather an idea for a show within the show (something like The Scary Door or All My Circuits) that got thrown around the writers' room, but never saw the light of day. A cartoon (how they would specify that, I'm not sure) version of Zapp's life where the "real" Zapp has full creative control, so it's completely unrealistic except for the fact that he comes off as a total conceited bastard. Spinoffs were mentioned a couple times on the commentaries, but never in any seriousness.

In any event, welcome to Prague's Elaborate Empty Labyrinth, That_Guy and hypno-toad. Hope you like it here.

does anyone think that the show's recent re-success in the UK will in any way persuade the good people to do any more futurama?  i'm new to this messageboard so maybe my optimism has not yet been crushed...

No.

No offense, but FOX is an American televison network.  They don't care how well the show does in other countries.

Welcome to PEEL, anyway.

Yeah, it was supposed to be a show within a show, but I think they should do something like that.  Such comedy gold should not be wasted on a show about the PE crew.  Give Zapp his own show, and keep the Brannigan-isms coming!

Wow.  Newbie-fest.  And no one linked either FAQ (that's two separate links there, guys.)

Yeah, FAQ links may seem old to, for instance, David A or Tongue Luck, but remember, they're news to the new guys, and possibly the best way to keep PEEL spam- and old question-free.

Oh, and welcome to all of you.  Enjoy your stay.

If you want to find out of you seen them all. Can't Get Enough Futurama  has episodes in production seasons and airing seasons. The last episode was The Devils Hands Are Idol Playthings,a great episode, and it kinda leaves things open for the viewer to think what they want about how the show to end, if that makes sense

This really ought to go in a FAQ somewhere.  Or better yet, a Sticky.  Oh, wait we don't have those...

There were Four Seasons of Futurama Produced.  This is how they are divided into DVD box sets.  These Four Seasons are called Production Seasons, or sometimes just Seasons.

The 72 Total Episodes of Futurama were broadcast over the course of Five Broadcast Seasons.  The details of "why" are more in depth than I feel like going right now, but suffice to say that because of Fox's erratic scheduling of the show, its four production seasons were spread out over a period of time that the network chose to call five seasons.  These five Broadcast Seasons are called either Seasons or McSeasons, presumably to indicate that they are "fake" seasons like McDonald's has "fake" beef.

To summarize:
Fox broadcast four seasons of a show over the course of five seasons of actual time.  Someone else can explain how and why that happened.

Back on the original topic, a Zapper spinoff would have kicked ass...for about four weeks.

I would have killed to have seen a Zapp spinoff or even an episode completely based around him and his bloody misadventures. Would have been great.
