Mine was Zoidberg's annoyance and that nobody considered himself to be his friend.

Hmm... I thought this had been done before. I know this has been done before, but the search turns up nothing. My favourite running joke is Leela's giant boots. They never used it as often as say... "Bite my Shiny Metal Ass", or "Good News, Everyone!", but maybe that's what made it so great. "You up there, with the eyelashes and the big boots!" "Lay it on us, big boots." "Come on Leela, step your big boot down on the gas pedal!" Also, congrats on Starship Captain, Mango! EDITed for general clarity. (?)

Leela's boots, probably one of the most overlooked: "Do they come in women's sizes?"

Definetly just the classic humour of being presented with the plausible option & having the character (usually bender) doing something else. Like Bender giving out toys as Santa Claus & dumping them down the sewer instead of the "Toys for Tots" bin. Or Leela being the tabogin in the peguin episode That always cracks me up. also hippi jokes Nes.
