I ask this because in The Neutral Planet thread Leandro said something about "encourage more sites to be created".

I also haven't seen any new Futurama Websites in a long time (just a few ones), but I've seen a lot going down. Sites in other languages have appeared, some of them looking good.

With Futurama back again (with the DVD movies), what is stopping the fans to create for example, Futurama character websites, themed websites, top websites.. or any Futurama website.

I would really like to see more sites from the fans.. to make the Futurama Community even bigger and everyone can see that the show must go on.

Well, you know I have my site, but it's a few years old now, and I'm too lazy to update it with anything.... Plus i think a major reason may be that your site and the few other major sites have all the good info on them, so we go to you guys for information. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see more sites out there though, no doubt.

I have a forum called The Futurama Force that I'm planning on making a site for. It's still in the planning stages but I hope to have it up by November.

Well, is true that since the series are not entirely back (after the 4 movies), there's not a lot of activity. When Futurama aired at FOX, sites appeared and also closed, but it was more dynamic. Besides, all the big sites started like small sites.. TFP started stealing content (until The Futurama Outlet complained.. lol).

That's the attitude!

I would be great to see themed sites, or character sites like a Fry, Leela, the Professor, Zoidberg or any character... but the future of Futurama is linked to the future of more Fansites... and vice versa I think.

I was working on a Fry site... I made the layout, but didn't do much else... I might start working on that again.

I'll agree with Professor Zoidy.  It's hard to enter the market.... all the big sites have the general stuff covered.  TFP has stuff for your desktop, CGEF has news, TLZ has fanart, the Infosphere for information, and PEEL has the message board.  It's about content... and you can't get away with just providing bios of the characters, you've gotta find something interesting and different.

A Fry Site would be cool btw....

I know a lot of the people that have visited this particular forum for websites might get offended by what I'm about to say.  I want more quality futurama websites... I really don't like seeing half-put together messageboards... there's not a huge need for that, and they don't usually last that long.

Unfortunately, the people who are most interested in starting a new website probably don't know where to start, or have the skills to put something good together.  For all those people, this is the best advice I can give.  Get some image software (the GIMP and Paint.NET are free) and learn how to do scans (tracing over framegrabs)... this will help you with pictures for your layout... only practice will make you better.  Then learn html.  You can do a lot of neat things with just html knowledge, a decent artistic eye, and some imagination.  Find a stable free website host (google it), look for a forum on the host site with activity, you want to see that the webhost has been established for a decent amount of time.  Other things that will help would be learning css, and a scripting language (php, javascript, perl, etc.) which will allow you a lot of neat possibilities.  There are guides on the internet for a lot of these things.  I provide that advice because no one is going to teach someone how to make and maintain a website on their own... some of us may help out when you have a particular question, but it really has to be a learn on your own type thing, and that's prohibitive for new people to make new sites.  Plus, you've got the competitive factor with the older bigger sites..... but if your idea is neat, you'll get people to come, and it'll be cool anyways.  At least the people here will talk about how cool it is.   :)

It's unfortunate our community has split and died off a lot.... I used to love visiting different sites.... I miss TFO, it had a really cool layout....  I think there have been a lot of non-english sites that were really good that have popped up without me noticing though too I'd love to see fresh stuff, and I've thought more about putting my webmaster hat back on lately.  I always wish good luck to anybody who has the earnest want to make new things; it's doable, but you have to be creative and dedicated.   :)

P.S.  Be sure to make a thread in here when you do create a website, and I'm sure a lot of else will help to give you feedback and answer a few questions.  Also note that there's a futurama chatroom that a lot of older community members visit, and we love talking about website stuff.

Professor Zoidy's right about the major-fansite monopoly. All the major information on Futurama is already offered in four main Futurama sites. Going off of what SonicPanther said about her Fry site, I would also like to see smaller Futurama sites just on specific topics of interest (like a GeoCities page). I don't know if it was taken down or not, but there is (or was, as the case may be) a site all about Amy. I think it tried to have information on each episode, but compared to the major sites, it really wasn't worth your time. What made the site "There's Something About Amy" (correct?) special was that included some great detail on Amy. I especially loved Amy's fashion page- now there's something you don't see on the major sites. I even think that "The Futurama Madhouse" (I prefer "The Leela Zone" ) even tried to do the same with Leela's fashion, but how they had it set up and for the fact that it was on a major site made it somewhat unappealing.

Just throwing out a few ideas for any wonder-bys or PEEL stalkers out there, there could be small sites done on the Professor's inventions, the Planet Express company (building, ship, employees, policies, etc.), one of Futurama's many races and planets, or even a site dedicated to Scruffy, Randy, or Morbo. In reality, the possibilities are endless. I just want sites to be kept to interesting topics, nothing like a site all about Hedonism Bot. Actually, a site on Hedonism Bot would be worth a visit too, and I couldn't come up with any small Futurama topic that wouldn't make a worthwhile site.

ANSTATMAW (Ain't No Such Thing As Too Much Amy Wong) is still up.... last time I checked anyways.

I also have an entire Zapp&Kif website on my hdd somewhere.  I don't have anything from SayArgh! unfortunately.....  There was a Nibbler site at one point, and a Farnsworth site (that didn't last too long), but it had a list of Farnsworth's inventions etc.  There was also a website that specialized in futurama fanfiction.... I don't think that's been too monopolized yet... but you'd have your work cut out for you.  I believe it was LiC, but I can't remember what that stood for off the top of my head.

========================
Characters

- Fry Online: The other Fry site that merged to form The Fry Hole

- The Fry Hole: The last Fry site alive..

Leela
- The Leela Zone
: of course now Futurama Madhouse, but there's no real Leela only site now

Professor Farnsworth
- Good News Everyone (GNE): The first Farnsworth site

Heads-in-Jars
- The Head Museum: The Only site dedicated only to the heads-in-jars

Hermes
- The Life and Times of Hermes Conrad: I believe the only Hermes dedicated site

Zoidberg

Zapp + Kif
- Zapp-and-Kif Urama: The only site of Zapp and Kif.

My dad's a website designer, so I'm helping SP with her site for TFF. Such as buying the domain... Before we actually start, though, I should REALLY get back into the whoel thing. I used to be practically fluent in HTML, but now I can hardly remember anything. It must've been, like, a year, maybe over, since I last worked on a website properly, geez...

But yeah, we're still trying to think of an original theme. We've been throwing some ideas around over at the forum, some good, some... Well, uh, not so good.

I had mentioned the idea of a site on unPEEL during PEEL's last downtime. It would be dedicated to the likes of Scruffy, the Waterfalls, Hedonismbot, and other shortly-seen-but-loved/obscure characters. Obscure-o-rama would be a good name for it. I just had no idea where to go from there!

Are you any good with image manipulation weiner?

We can help you find a nice freehost place for space and help you out with design ideas.  Try roughdrafting a picture of what you might want the layout to look like and some possible sections for content if you're serious.  :)

The BFF site is a good idea too the stray.  You might try writing some articles about Fry & Bender's friendship... or even do a bit with like mock interviews from their perspectives.  Stuff like that for content.

On the graphics front, you might all try programs like the Gimp, Paint.net, and irfanview... It's not super easy to make something from scratch, but there are plenty of tutorials if you wanna spend the time playing with them.  Also, most of a website is made up of either lines, or colors.... and the Futurama stuff is just scanart.  (You trace images of the characters from the show)  Pretty easy stuff to do, and I'd be willing to answer questions on any of those programs if you'd like to try giving it a go. :)

Considering I do it on MS Paint, MS Digital Image Starter Edition 2006, and sometimes Serif Photoplus 6.0, I'm alright.

I'll draw up a Paint roughdraft of a layout. I was thinking about sections about backround characters in categories of Humans, Robots, Aliens, and Others.

Would you believe only now have I discovered that futurama-madhouse.co.ar is no longer? Apparently The Leela Zone has moved to futurama-madhouse.net.
