I heard about what happened to Futurama Madhouse. Why is the site shut down? I tried to go to it and all I got was an error message. I myself noticed besides Graham, all the other admins are away. How did it crash? For a minute there, I thought the URL changed. It would be a dirty shame is that site is permantely shut down. I hope it gets fixed soon! How long has it been shut down for?

All I said was that some people are uncomfortable with the idea of giving out credit card information (and, yeah, since some close friends of mine did have their identities stolen a few years ago, I'm one of them). Of course I'd send a check, given the chance, but many times, that's simply not an option I'm granted. That said, I should probably start looking into a PayPal account.... quote: The small fee would be to stop the nymshifters and spammers. Running a website is expensive and time consuming - I've done it before.
I do not doubt that it's incredibly difficult to run a web site of this magnitude, and I'm very, very thankful that -mArc- has stuck with PEEL and CGEF for so long. What I was mainly trying to get across is that, if it came to it, I'd be willing to sacrifice features to be able to remain on a functioning forum. This idea might not fly at all, but depending on what's specifically required to keep PEEL running: what if someone (preferrebly -mArc-) established a PayPal account on PEEL's behalf that people could donate to? The money would go towards whatever it would take to maintain the forum (and possibly CGEF as well).

GAH!FM TLZ is still down. I’m going into *&^%$#@! withdrawl! I’ll be forced to use my medicinal chocolate... Not to be construed as a complaint, ‘cuz I truly do appreciate what Leandro, Graham, Teral, Kenneth, et al do to keep the site running, but is there any estimate of when the site might be back up again? And just in case I’ve left anyone out, a jumbo-sized thank-you to everyone who keeps FM TLZ a going concern. The Futurama community wouldn’t be half of what it is without you. I’d offer my help, but trust me, you're better off without it!

Hmmm. I need to remember to check PEEL when the site goes down. That, or the people at PEEL need to remember to email me at leandrotlz@gmail.com when the site goes down :PI was the first to notice the domain troubles. This started on August 20th. People on other countries just saw the site staying up for a couple of days while the domain and its DNS info were purged from their caches. What happened? I registered www.futurama-madhouse.com.ar a long time ago using a very old email address that redirected to a pretty insecure account. This was after the whole Cease & Desist stuff with www.leela.com.ar. Someone managed to request the domain subscription to be cancelled, using that old email address for confirmation. I re-registered the domain before anyone else could grab it, and we're good to go again. I also took the precaution to change the email address that can make changes to the site like that to my current address, and to remove the two other email addresses that could request a domain change before. Happy endings all around. Now, this shows that I'm rather naive. I don't care much for security (some of the scripts that run the site itself have laughably insecure passwords) because I think, hey, it's a fansite, who could want to hurt us? And then I get an email from someone who registered www.futurama-madhouse.com and is asking for a thousand bucks so we can have it. I'm an optimist at heart, but sometimes people don't make it easy... [This message has been edited by Leandro (edited 08-26-2006).]

[*Heh!*] Not me: one of my motto's is: "If you expect the worst, you'll never be disappointed."Some say this makes me a pessimist, a blackguard, a cynic - And they may have a point... But I've never been disappointed... Thanks for all your efforts in keeping FM TLZ up and running. We Futurama fans would be much worse-off without it. Keep up the good job, and please, don't ever stop.

Well, if you do an internet search for 'Futurama', you get CGEF at the top of the list. And CGEF is nice, too. Not as many updates, but then again, if you haven't seen TLZ yet, you don't know that you're missing anything. And personally, I like the Ultimate Bulletin Board layout of PEEL better than the TLZ forum.

Something that bothers me: in the Wikipedia's article for Futurama, CGEF is listed in the External Links section. I added TLZ a few times, and it always gets deleted. CGEF stays update after update -- TLZ gets deleted as often as the day after I post the link. Not sure if it's because they have a problem with 'Madhouse' in the name or if some editor is monitoring the page for changes and just doesn't like us.

TLZ was the site that got me into futurama fanart, and remains the most important repository of fan based output. It deserves - and has earned - its popularity, needs a wiki link.

I also added TFP because CGEF was listed in the External Links section. It was deleted, so I asked the person that deleted TFP from the links why?, and there's a rule on Wikipedia about not listing all the fansites but the Principal one... I let him know that there are sites more updated than CGEF, so then that person added instead the dmoz list of Futurama Sites (that it was on the Wikipedia rules when there's to many big fansites). In fact, right now, there's no CGEF on the External Links section, there's only the link of "Futurama at the Internet Movie Database". I'll add the link to Futurama at dmoz Open Directory... although FM is not listed there directly, but in the "characters" subpage. ------------------ [This message has been edited by JavieR (edited 09-09-2006).]

We're not willing to sacrifice any of the stuff we put so much effort in collecting for the last six years. We even still have all the layouts the site has had stored! That said, the best way to help a site stay alive is to support its ads. Like the new RadioShack ad that's on top of our pages... come on, check out the Back to School Tech Checklist. Hi 1BDI. The site is working fine for me. Probably congestion or momentary network glitch.I'm not an admin, but I did go take a look at the code. It's a Prel script and it appears to have something to do with the advertisments. It's been there for a while and doesn't appear to do anything nasty (disclaimer - I'm not an expert on prel scripts). If I can catch Graham on IM tonight I'll ask him, unless he or one of the other admins answers here first.

That file's not supposed to download, it's just a visitor counter that I use to track ads-related stuff (they have their own counter of hits, but I like to double-check that stuff). It should be displaying in an invisible frame; calling it directly just displays your own IP address. What browser/version do you use? (Edit: come to think of it, maybe the fact that it tracks stuff with a simple text/plain content type means some systems will try to open it with Notepad instead of displaying it in the invisible frame. I'll change it so it tracks using text/html instead and it should fix that.) [This message has been edited by Leandro (edited 10-09-2006).]
