I used to use blue pencil when I worked on paper because it made it a lot easier to scan the line-art, since the blue virtually disappears in the scanner and you can just filter it out in photoshop and get relatively clean ink lines. I kept sketching in blue because there was always a chance I'd want to clean the picture up afterwards. Of course, these days I use a tablet for all my art so there's absolutely no reason for it apart from habit. And I quite like blue. Full sketchy-dealie. The pages are very large. Also I need to put a page in between them otherwise they don't flow properly.

Tablet... is that like one of those electronic pad dealies? Ah, the rich know how to live... I just use felt pens on paper, then convert to B&W after I scan it, before beginning to fill with paintbucket and shadow with the line tool. Stone-age, really Those look great. Is that going to be an ongoing strip? [This message has been edited by coldangel_1 (edited 11-01-2007).]

You know, I had to double check the picture myself to make sure he was a guy . Although I must admit I'm also a little relieved. !SexyFry was disturbingly attractive. I love the comic. There is a vitality to the rough sketches that is sometimes lost when they are inked or colored. It reminds me of the Futurama animatics, or going back further, the rough animation drawings of the great Disney Artists in Frank Thompson and Ollie Johnston's The Illusion of Life. I also love the content, although I'm not sure Fry would be organized enough to make that 'stalker board'. Women also seem to have a way of leaving behind clothing. They'll say it's just for convenience, but I also suspect its a way of marking territory or somehow announcing that 'this spot is reserved'. I think you should post these pics in the long-running shipper thread at PEEL, they'd get a kick out of it:
most recent shipper thread
A friendly warning though: they're currently on some strange Trek slasher discussion with some rather disturbing pictures. Enter at your own risk

Nah, it's just a short muck-around. I haven't done comics for an age, a fact I related to my butler as he was polishing my tablet while I ate caviar off a pure gold plate on the 30th floor of my Tower of Pleasure in Hawaii...Cos I'm rich, don't'cha know. I may, may be tempted in to doing a longer strip if I can find a good, short fic to base it on. [This message has been edited by Archonix (edited 11-02-2007).]

Ahh, fair enough... I'll consider it. I keep saying I want to put in an extra page with a bit more funny, and I'll do that tonight. Then I'll post it there. quote:

I'm glad I wasn't alone on that thought, and I figured out why it was so. It's the boobs. Men short-circuit when they see boobs, even the ones like me who say they're more attracted to personality or something... Actually, more disturbing was the sight of my wife saying Female!Fry was attractive.

Gasp! You ink your art in Photoshop!? Blasphemy! I prefer to ink my art the old fashion way.. because cleaning up ink smears is soooo much fun.. quote: Originally posted by Archonix: Of course, these days I use a tablet for all my art so there's absolutely no reason for it apart from habit.
Tablet, eh? a Wacom I wager.. wish I could afford one of those.. I had to go the cheap route and use a Trust. Lousy piece of crap what it is... ------------------ "All alone he turns to stone while holding his breath half to death"

I got mine off ebay. An absolute bargain it was...I used to ink on top of the blue sketch with real ink pens and then filter out the blue in pshop after scanning. The thing is, I don't like that sort of permanence, I prefer to have the option of playing with the sketch afterwards, so I switched to tablet drawing as soon as I was good enough. These days I "ink" in illustrator and then colour in photoshop, though I'm thinking of trying out Corel Painter for it as well. You can turn the canvas! I spent an entire day just slapping paint on to a canvas and then spinning it around to watch the pretty colours... wheee... sorry, where was I?

I'm not too satisfied with the main part of this sketch. Something about her head is wrong. I can see lots of niggling mistakes in it. On the other hand I loved drawing the little faces around it.

Not much wrong with her head per se, just that it's turned just a tiny bit too far to her right that it looks like a slightly unnatural neck angle... like how a person looks after you've snapped their spine - you know that look.Other than that, looks awesome.

I agree; this is good stuff. I like the 'Ruminations' comic especially; that'd make a good book (or at least serial strip). ------------------ Leela: If everyone's finished bein' stupid... Fry: Uh, I had more, but you go ahead. - The Series Has Landed

I fail at reading the second page of threads. Sorry. Those pictures are great, how long does each sketch take you, roughly? Also the one you said you didn't like the head - if you don't mind the criticism, it looks like the size ratio of her hair relative to her head is a bit off. It still looks fab though! I don't mind criticism, it's all good. Simple sketches usually take me about half an hour or so depending on what's in them. Those comic pages each took just over an hour and a half.

Interesting factoid: this is the first time I drew an bottom that didn't look like a half-inflated balloon.Fic spoiler! "Hello again, Fry." Fry tensed up as he felt the cold metal brush against the back of his neck. He turned around very slowly, raising his hands as he did so. "Leela..." "You've given me quite a chase this time." She backed away from him, keeping the gun trained on Fry's face as she leaned against the back of the chair. "The others weren't so annoyingly stubborn as you. What gives?" "I like living," Fry said quietly. He put down his hands and looked around the apartment, so bare and sterile. He'd been here more times in the last week than in the last four years. Probably fitting that he should die here too. "Why are you doing this?" Leela shrugged, then glanced away to consider the answer and hand relaxed, letting the gun dangle from her finger. Fry was almost tempted to try and snatch it from her. Almost, but even as the thought entered his mind Leela's eye narrowed and she tightened her grip on the weapon again. "Nice. Try and distract me again and I'll shoot you." "You're going to kill me anyway," Fry replied bitterly. He stuffed his hands in his pockets and gave Leela a sullen glare. "Why wait?" "I have some business to deal with," came the reply. Fry looked up in to Leela's eye. She meant... no! They'd be back any moment! Fry's mind raced as he tried to think up a plan. He glared at Leela again as the thoughts crossed his mind; what would Leela do? But that wouldn't work. Leela would kick and punch and all those other things that strong people were able to do. Fry couldn't even lift his foot up that high. What else? What would Amy do? The thought hit him just as he was taking in Leela's figure again. She smiled at the attention. Well, sneered. Fry smiled to himself as the plan began to form in his mind. "Nice boots." "What?" "I said, nice boots. They're bigger than normal," Fry said quietly. He tilted his head to one side as if taking in the detail. "I like the green stripe." "Oh. Well... uh..." Leela suddenly looked uncomfortable. Sometimes she had trouble taking praise for her looks but this was beyond even that. Fry felt an advantage forming and pressed on. "What I don't get is, why aren't you wearing pants? That leather swimsuit thing is hardly practical." "Hey, I'm insane, you have to look the part. Besides," Leela added, twisting her hips a little and flickering her eyelashes at Fry. "It's got some uses. The last three I killed were too busy staring at my ass to even notice." The gun clicked, that cruel, oily metallic click of a hammer being drawn. Fry looked up into the gun's barrel and swallowed. "See what I mean?" "I guess I do..." [This message has been edited by Archonix (edited 11-08-2007).]

I like this sniplet of the Evila story. Android, Clone or long-lost sister? From a mirror universe?Actually I always wondered what if they ran into a Star Trek type of Mirror Universe - Evila (Evil Leela) would be a lot like Evil Kira from DS-9. The opposite of Leela - flaunting her sexuality. The Leather swimsuit fits the part. [This message has been edited by Ralph Snart (edited 11-08-2007).]

Before I saw the spoiler I was going to say that it doesn't necisarily look like evil Leela as much as post apocolyptic bad-ass Leela. The spoiler however dragged my theory out into the woods and shot it dead.

Hey! I did that! Evil Bender played the part of Garak... And Turanga (Evil Leela) was originally going to be like Kira, but I got carried away with the shippyness... That's why I'm rewriting it now.
