EDIT: I do it manually, using the eraser. Takes a little while, but gives a nice effect. Oh and I know the glass is dodgy, I couldn't be stuffed by the end, which generally happens :P

Amazing picture, Demeter.

First, select a normal brush, one of the first ones in the set.

Brush Tip Shape
Size: 10-30
Angle: 87-93°
Roundness: 10-20%
Hardness: 75-100%
Spacing: 1%

And then also...
Shape Dynamics
Minimum Diameter: 40-70%
Angle Jitter: 0% Control - [Initial Direction]

Everything else should be on '0%' and 'Off' settings. Or just un-tick them; ^-^;

1)After this, outline your sketch and such with the pen tool in this part, just takes time and practice) and then after you have a section done (I'd suggest doing it one line at a time), right-click your mouse and choose 'Stroke Path'.

2)A little box should pop up and give you options of different settings. Choose brush, making sure that your paint brush is set with the settings above, and A) if not, close window, go to Paint Brush and alter or B) select brush and click okay. Do not have 'Simulate Pressure'. And you should get a nice and 'weighted' line.

2.5) When I did the face (mouth only here, but generally...) I reduce the brush size down to 10, using the 'b' (Quick-Flick© over to the Paint Brush) then the '[' (Quick-Flick© Reduces the size of the Paint Brush a pre-set amount. IE the size are; 1-10, 20, 30 etc) and then 'p' (Quick-Flick© back over to the Pen tool!). Makes it look a lot nicer than GIANT ARSE lines that bloch across the face. And then, once the face is done, make the brush bigger again using the 'b' then, insted of the smaller '[' use the opposite, et, bigger-er ']' button, which increases the size of your brush.

3) As for the ends where it leads of to a soft ending, you just erase them with the eraser manually. I know, I'm sorry :P There's no other way to do it right. Oh and it might take a few tries to get it right, but y'know... give it a chance.

as an alternative to using the eraser on the ends, did you know about switching the Size Jitter control to "fade," that's one way to get the lines to taper off. takes a steady hand when you're using a mouse though, so i dunno how effective of an alternative it would be.

That's the closest that I can come to understanding your technical jargon, but I do recognize talent. I hope that you end up being an animator for for RDS or the studio of your choice.

Granted, I'm sure that your parents would love for you to pursue a 'safe' profession like teaching, it's your life and you have to pursue your interests or you'll never be truely happy.

I'm probably older than your parents and I speak from experience - investigate what is needed to become what your want and pursue it. Anything else is a waste of life and a waste of talent.

In Columbia South Carolina, several years ago (early 90's) I knew a young man. I was on the singles scene and he was a stuent at the University of South Carolina. He was also a member of a local band - forever seeming to scratch a meager existance on the local scene. making the big time seemed like a pike dream - what band from South Carolina ever made it nationally? None at that time. One night I happened to be at a Waffle House at 4 am and the band came trudging in - they all knew me from the several different clubs that they played and I went to. This young man was dejected - he was tired and friends were telling him to take a 'real job' and give up on the music scene. I told him the same thing I just said to you - to do anything other than what your heart commanded would be a waste of life and talent and he'd never be happy doing anything else.

The next year they made a big breakout and went national. Your young age and being Australian, you may not know the name but you can look it up. The young man that I spoke to was none other than Darius Rucker of Hootie and the Blowfish.

Are you using the regular Pen tool or the Freeform? The Bezier tools are taking a little getting used to.

Though I've never heard of them, was he in a marching band or some alternative kinda thing like a rock band? Because let me tell you, I'm in band myself, and I will be, but I'm thinknig of some sort of computer or art work for someone. (Disney college ho! and I can't believe you went to clubs Ralphie... .) Although I hope to someday make a show of my own, or work on a show that I helped come up with, preferably in Simpson (Groening) style art, I may not get to do that. I may work at a computer, and that's just fine. I love computers.
Demeter, you just keep on doing what you love, and possibly, just by some slight chance, though we may never know it, we may run into each other. Just like Show. He wants to pursue a carreer like the rest of us nerds.

I'm not sure.. The regular pen tool I think. The Freeform doesn't give off the best curves, unless you've got excellent control over them.

And guys... I could/would never officially give up on my art. If anything I'd get a job at Disney and then on the side another career. Maybe in the near future commisions or such at deviantART. A webcomic or two. Anything to get my art up in the open ^^ Giving up I never would, without feeling bad.

Oh and I'll be learning all different ways to draw too! In September sometime... But yeah Oh oh and also... I'm Hated. 0_o; By a girl I've never said more than three words too. Oh except 'Hi, how's it going?' So it's either a jealousy thing OR I somehow hurt her feelings, somehow 0_o; God I hate high school. Girls are so trivial *shakes head*

Okay, here's two pictures I did with my Tria markers :3 I've had em for about 3 months now, only used em a few times. First one is of Kim with retro hairstyle ehehe... Big in other words and Ron as a chocomaholic XD I didn't have a yellow, and didn't realize that till I got to that point >.<; But, that aside I love how he turned out.

As an objective observer (who can't do any kind of computer-based art ), the eye there could be a little larger/wider agross the face - just in terms of proportions - at the moment the eye is as wide as the nose, which when it's in-line with it makes it look a little strange.
