UBER EDIT - don't worry about replying to this thread... i already wasted tons of hours of shading and it's officially done... i covered her in liquid sealer and everything.
an old friend of mine helped guide me this last week on
how to improve on the drawing. she gave me an "ebony" pencil
and now it looks a LOT better... unfortunately i had to go over the WHOLE dang
picture and darken everything... i'm currently re-outlining the background in
6b lead. wish me luck. i'm so sick of this picture i would quit if it wasn't
in my nature to stick it out.
and thanks guys for the compliments, but stop or i'll get a big head.
edit -
i need some help guys... i will add the updated picture here
in a minute and you'll see what i mean. the PE ship is now 'correctly'
shaded but the background is still very light. the shadow the ship casts
on the light ground doesn't look right, but if i shade the background to
the same end that i did for the main characters (PE SHIP, LEELA),
will it not keep them from sticking out from the background?
what i'm
asking is what will contribute the most to a 10 second glance that
friends and peers will see: a subtle background with a standing-out
foreground, or just a uniformly shaded
drawing, and rely on the PE ship and LEELA to win out due to their size on
the paper?i added a futuristic "LO BRAU" beer keg in the background but i guess the
resolution is not good enough to read it.
