I believe that Futurama is a cartoon and not worth spotting every stupid little error in.

For the most part, I think these threads are sustained by a desire to keep the suspension of disbelief alive for those of us who have a tendency to overanalyze things. By deconstructing these minor gaffs we are reassured that our fantasy doesn't crumble and are reminded that Futurama is indeed a great program written by intelligent people who care about things like continuity and strive for accuracy even while they poke fun at their own concepts. It is a cartoon. But it was written and concieved by people, like you and me. Scientific deconstruction is many times an exercise in reinforcing the concepts that make up our realities; whether they be virtual, physical or imaginary.

Meh.

Some people devote their lives to proving that their particular Book is not in error.

The rest of us could enjoy ourselves reconciling minor animation  or writing errors (*ahem* intended riddles), perhaps?  I mean, it's not like we're going to start the Star Trek Wars (or the Star Wars Trek), are we?  Golly, I hope not.

Futurama is the greatest cartoon ever created.  Still, it _does_ have some continuity errors like any other TV show.

Yeah, most shows have some continuity errors at some point, considering the different number of writers and storylines

It all started with the Baker Street Irregulars, the Sherlock Holmes fans who became a prototype for fans of fiction in series form...originally, to get to be a member, you had to write an essay explaining  some aspect of the Sherlock Holmes universe, taking as your premises that 1) the Holmes stories were all absolutely true; 2) they were written by Dr. John Watson, with Arthur Conan Doyle acting as an editor; and 3) that there were no continuity errors.  What appeared to be errors could be explained, and your membership essay could explain one of them. (Alternatively, it could elaborate on some minor detail, such as Isaac Asimov's essay theorizing what Moriarty's banned scientific work Dynamics of an Asteroid was specifically about. )

Early Star Trek fandom took that same general approach, and you could be awarded a "No Prize" for explaining that some "continuity error" was no error at all.

It's an elaborate game that some of us enjoy immensely, so how about not raining on our picnic, eh?  :nono:  :hmpf:

I agree with Shiny. I admit some people take it all a little too seriously, but to most of us it's just something fun to do with our brains.

Interesting note for those who complain about half of GD being games. If you concider these threads to be a different, nerdier kind of game, that makes every thread in GD a game, with the exceptions of closed threads (spam, repeats, just plain stupids) and the two legitimate news reaction threads (new movies and new episodes).

The thing is, Futurama is far less self-consistent than something like Sherlock Holmes. It's a universe governed as much by the rules of comedy as it is by the laws of physics. This gives you a lot of free reign to invent explanations for things; any consistency error in Futurama has an endless variety of possible explanations. The big props go to the funniest explanations.

Obvisally Lampy likes that show for what it is, and by sounds of things he doesn't need to nit-pick every single detail to enjoy the show.
I am not going sit here and talk about every single mistake in the show, it is hand drawn so there is going a few little mistake everynow and than.

See, this is a question I've been meaning to axe.  At what point in the next thousand years does "teh" replace "the"?  Before or after "Christmas" becomes "Xmas"?

Yes you can because they are only funny if they are said in the childish voice, or to people who know the quote and think of it being said in the voice. They aren't funny in themselves generally speaking, the above is a perfect example.

I respect you, Lampy. You've shown us what it is possible to get away with. I do seem to remember that while under your previous account, you started a thread entitled 'Futurama Sucks'. However, I do believe that was a joke, due the fact that the now locked thread contained only one post, by you, which said 'You fell for it'.

Of course, unless you start being more mature in your posting (if not agreeable), I am afraid that my respect for you will be at it's end.

What is it with me... First I reply to him in the '13 New Episodes' thread, and now this?...

I'm a nerd!
