Would you like to live as a head in the jar? I wouldn't. Most likely the immortality Lrrr meant included full-scale living, maybe with ethernal youth included.

Edit: I still wonder how they managed to get the heads of people who died a long before even 2000 (first US presidents and such). Cloning maybe?

There's a difference between being immortal and being invincible.

The Omicronians might be immortal, meaning they don't age or catch diseases, but they probably just as subsceptible to energy-weapons and sharp, pointy objects as Earthicans, meaning they can be killed). See also Tolkien's elves.

I didn't say it was an inherent genetic trait, it might just as well be the result of a medical treatment. Tolkiens elves just represent the best example of what I tried to describe (a race untouched by time and decease but still "killable" ).

Another example would be the Aesir, from Norse mythology.  As long as they ate Idun's apples of eternal youth, they would never die from old age, but they could still be killed.

The trick to immortality is easy... masturbate until you go blind. 

Perhaps someone is capable of time-travelling back to before the person died.  Said time-traveller would bring all necessary equipment in order to save just the head.  That way, George Washington could have fought with his own body, but his head was saved and brought to the future.

But then again, the writers stated that there would be no time travel in Futurama.  So I don't know.

You know what sucks?  The heads can only participate in oral sex... and they always give, never receive....

Recall also, gentlefolk, that George Foreman said, and I quote, "as a head without a body,I envy the dead".

I don't trust the Omicronians to be able to live forever.  Lrr'd probably screw up the process or something, killing the person looking for immortality.

Besides, masturbating until you become immortal is still worth a try... even if it doesn't work, you can't say you didn't enjoy your attempt at immortality. 

Anyway, I'm amazed nobody's mention the youth tar from TMLH here yet. By bathing in that once a year just enough to de-age by a year, it is somewhat similar to being immortal... not quite the same, and doesn't exactly fit the definition of immortality, but it's the closest thing we've seen to it on the show other than the heads in jars... and Melllvar giving the Star Trek crew eternal youth somehow.
