hi its my second topic here at peel and i saw that the omicronians say that they know how  to live forever but the people of earth already know the recipe for immortality i.e  heads in  jars like nixon and others.

Would you like to live as a head in the jar? I wouldn't. Most likely the immortality Lrrr meant included full-scale living, maybe with ethernal youth included.

Edit: I still wonder how they managed to get the heads of people who died a long before even 2000 (first US presidents and such). Cloning maybe?

I think that the Omicronians just have a much greater longevity.  Of course, we've never seen an Omicronian be killed, so maybe there's more to it.

Xerxes - More than likely.  Although digging up the graves of old presidents and such doesn't strike me as fun.

Oh yeah.  Forgot about that episode.  Well, maybe something happens when they mature and they are given the "recipe for immortality" or something.  :P

There's a difference between being immortal and being invincible.

The Omicronians might be immortal, meaning they don't age or catch diseases, but they probably just as subsceptible to energy-weapons and sharp, pointy objects as Earthicans, meaning they can be killed). See also Tolkien's elves.

In that case, how could the Omicronians give Earthicans the recipe for immortality, if it was simply inherent in the Omicronians' biological chemistry? It would be like us giving them the recipe for hair.

I didn't say it was an inherent genetic trait, it might just as well be the result of a medical treatment. Tolkiens elves just represent the best example of what I tried to describe (a race untouched by time and decease but still "killable" ).

Another example would be the Aesir, from Norse mythology.  As long as they ate Idun's apples of eternal youth, they would never die from old age, but they could still be killed.

Living in a gefilte fish jar, eating fish food, listening to idiots asking you stupid questions, I think I'll pass. Even Nixon said it was a sad and lonely life and he is crazy.

That question has bothered me since the day I started watching futurama! I think it was my first goof I thought of before looking it up.

The trick to immortality is easy... masturbate until you go blind.

I've wondered that too, but it must not be cloning because Washington's head said "...that my body fought and died for" in PYHOMS.

Perhaps someone is capable of time-travelling back to before the person died.  Said time-traveller would bring all necessary equipment in order to save just the head.  That way, George Washington could have fought with his own body, but his head was saved and brought to the future.

But then again, the writers stated that there would be no time travel in Futurama.  So I don't know.

Perhaps the heads are clones, implanted with the memories of the original, taken directly froma  brain-scan?

You know what sucks?  The heads can only participate in oral sex... and they always give, never receive....

Recall also, gentlefolk, that George Foreman said, and I quote, "as a head without a body,I envy the dead".

Dearest Winna,
Do you ever have anything usefull to say? What does masturbation have to do with immortality?

It is possible that the Omicronians were just kidding. They seem like the kind of people who would say things like that just to make other races feel inferior.

I don't trust the Omicronians to be able to live forever.  Lrr'd probably screw up the process or something, killing the person looking for immortality.

Who said masturbating had anything to do with immortality? I just said that the trick to immortality is easy and that if you masturbated, you'd eventually do it until you go blind... especially if you have the herpes and you shoot yourself in both eyes.

Besides, masturbating until you become immortal is still worth a try... even if it doesn't work, you can't say you didn't enjoy your attempt at immortality.  :p

Anyway, I'm amazed nobody's mention the youth tar from TMLH here yet. By bathing in that once a year just enough to de-age by a year, it is somewhat similar to being immortal... not quite the same, and doesn't exactly fit the definition of immortality, but it's the closest thing we've seen to it on the show other than the heads in jars... and Melllvar giving the Star Trek crew eternal youth somehow.
