In episode 112, Professor Farmsworth says "Most tapes would be destroyed in the second coming of Jesus." But later on in season 2 in her fantasy of Wizard of Oz, she says, "Haven't I see you in a copyrighted movie?"  How does she know when most of the tapes were destroyed?

Possibilities:

1) Her writers certainly know, that's for sure.
2) It came to her in a dream where she realized nothing is impossible.
3) It was revived on a 78 million RPM disc.

PS: Congratulations on finally learning how to spell.

Most, Bender Ruls, not all.  The entire crew are constantly referencing 20th Century pop culture (in fact, they know more about that than they do about actual history,) so its safe to assume quite a few recordings survived...especially if they ever made it onto DVD, which I'm pretty sure Wizard of Oz has done.

On a side note, thank you for cleaning up your posting style.  I always had trouble reading your stuff before.

Or Fry could have told her about it.  After all, even if all videotapes were destroyed, Fry should still remember movies and culture from his time.

I dunno, he did mess up the revival of the wheel and thought Lite Brites helped us to view programs in our homes.

Leela could have read the book.  It was a book before it was a movie, you know.

If Leela did see The Wizard of Oz as a movie, it wouldn't necessarily have been the 1939 Judy Garland version.  It could have been a much more recent remake.  I mean, how many different movie versions of Alice in Wonderland are there?  I don't think that it would be too big of a stretch to think that after a thousand years The Wizard of Oz would have been remade a few more times.

Farnsworth said most videotapes were destroyed during the second coming of Jesus. Most movies are shot using 35mm or 70mm film, which are very different from videotapes.

The second coming wasn't until 2443. By then VCRs had been out of use for centuries, so Jesus just did people a favor helping clean up their junk since movies and such had been transfered to other formats.

Or Leela found it on some kind of futuristic KaZaa network.

remember the celebrity heads in a jar?  Who's to say Judy Garlind isn't one of them?  She could have told Leala.

But she specifically said her dream reminded her of a copyrighted movie.

Along those lines, would a 1939 movie still be under copyright in 3002?  Maybe, considering the way things are going, but I'm not sure how likely that really is.

The film of Charlie's Angels 3 apparently still exists.  The same might or might not be true with Jury Duty 2.

Bender's comment in "Where No Fan Has Gone Before" suggests that Jim Carrey movies ARE still available on videotape.  I can think of several ways to explain that, though.

I thought you were meant to assume his head was still doing movies.

Yes.  I'm just saying that her having read the book wouldn't explain anything.

Well, the whole Oz thing, remember in ep. 2 where the prof-meister puts in a small video, but it's a VCR+++? Well, maybe they put it on one of those thing-a-ma-doo-bobbers...It's possible.
