Just at the end of love and rocket I saw a strange message that said 'Pop!' surrounded by blue lines, just before the disclaimer. Anyone else see this? I couldn't manage to framegrab it though.

I noticed that! Is that just an extra on the DVD or is it on er... the TV as well? And also why Pop? What does that mean?

I have found it devinitly exists... I have taken a picture of it with my digicam, as it is too fast to screengrab at the moment (don't ask why). I'll try and get it uploaded tonight.

What it is though? god only knows...

edit: here it is

it appears to last for 1 frame and I could only get it by slowing down to 0.06 times speed!

Now that's a subliminal message if there ever was one. Probably something FOX put in to make us all whatch their reality shows.

Is there a beep that goes with it?

In the "industry" we usually use these as visual and auditory cues for syncronizing audio and video.  The jargon for it is  "2 POP" so that is probably what it means, although I'd have to go back and watch the show to see if it make sense contextually... It must have been left in for a reason unless it was just a poor edit!

Too much work to cut it when it only last a micro-second and noone will notice, except nerdlingers like us.

I have a question about this split-second screen; I had a look at LOR today. The scene is just before the credits roll, right? Because I slowed it down, and there was nothing there. I will try it again, though.

Really? What, do you mean when the credits are finished, or between the last shot of the episode and the credits - or during the credits? I just want to get things clear as to where I'm looking.

After the credits have finished. It appears like two frames before the DVD sends you back to the menu so you have to slow it right down to catch it in time.

Maybe it was just for a laugh... Not any particular intended subliminal message, just a bit of fun to see if anyone notices, do they say anything about it on the commentary? I'll find out!

I've heard that before. Is it different to an ordinary advert because you see it subconciously but don't actually know you've seen it...or something...?

Kind of. It's quite interesting, so I'll expand a bit. There's no actual proof subliminal advertising results in improved sales.
Basically it involves inserting single frames at a regular interval (unlike this single Futurama frame) to "get" messages into the mind without you knowing.

However, it's very difficult to proove the "subtler" subliminal advertising - during the 2000 U.S. presidental campaign, a television ad campaigning for George Bush showed words (and parts thereof) scaling from the foreground to the background on a television screen. When the word BUREAUCRATS flashed on the screen, one frame showed only the last part, RATS. The Democrats appealed to the FCC, but it was rejected.

A UK example was in 1999, when BT inserted a frame inbetween text saying "good call" (the inserted frame read "come back", referring to those who had switched telcos).

I am however, incorrect when I say subliminal advertising is "illegal" in the UK - however, the Republican example is illegal, because it defame another product / party (you can't say "X Brand / Mr X sucks" in an ad).

I WISH I could watch it on DVD, but the retards at the American FOX company are a heck of a lot slower at producing DVDs than its affiliates in other countries.  It might be on my preordered Vol. 3.  I would check, but I am already in my pajamas.

Why would they? It's right at the very end of the episode and is only one frame long. You think they're gonna waste time talking about that?

I'm sure if any of the commentators noticed it, it would be Cohen. Once he brought it up the re-action from the others would be:

nobody cares, nobody cares, nobody cares,
