In this episode Bender's heads felt to 1947 (literally) and he remained buried until 3003, when Fry rescued him.
Nevertheless, robots need alcohol to survive....so Bender would have to be sober, but he wasn´t.

Hm, good point...
Maybe he was in stand by mode or something.

Most of Bender's chemical energy from alchohol is used for physical tasks (walking, bending stuff, shoplifting, ect.)  His head, by itself wouldn't use much energy.  1056 years is a long time, but his head was buried underground, so he probably went into auto-sleep mode (or something similar) to conserve energy.  When they dug him up, he still had enough stored energy left to function normally until he could get some booze and recharge.

Or, in an audio commentary for an earlier episode, Cohen says that Bender smokes to keep his fuels cells charged with heat...Perhaps the desert sand was hot enough to keep him going...

Pretty much the theory we agreed on in the old thread.

Modern computers have energy-saving measures as well: the screen turns off, the harddrives power down, etc. All in an effort to save electricity when the PC is left passive for a couple of minutes. I'd imagine they'll be infinetely more advanced in 1000 years.

If everything else fails I'm sure Bender could store all his memories and knowledge on a permanent storage thingy (like a HD) and shut down completely. Leela hitting him with the showel prompted him to reactivate.

Well, it would have been too much for the ending if they found Bender sober I think. Just too much happening at the same time.

I can't believe this is the point you argue, if your gonna do your nit picking nerd thing at least do the right thing and argue over the impossibilities in the space-time continuem the episode presents.
