I, for one, am sick to death of people boosting their post count by going to every topic and adding "a wizard did it"
I mean, a wizard did it isn't even a Futurama joke, its from the Simpsons!
Is anyone else sick of this?

I think as long as it's witty, and/or it's not the only thing they're posting it's fine to throw a wizard or two in it...  And yes wizards aren't into Futurama, warlocks are:

So from now on you could say the warlock did it....

It is shorter than saying "Script Logic."  And there is nothing wrong with us developing board slang.  Just a sign of community.

I'm new here (less than a month i think), but i've seen "the wizards did it" many times. I think it should be used, but only when you reach a logical stalemate that is better to let past. A good example of this is Chump's post on the "why do future weapons suck?" thread. But it's just my opinion, i could be wrong.

Stop the wizard joke already, I say! If it wasn't funny the first time you did it, why the hell would it be funny the next 100 times?!

There's nothing wrong with the wizard joke. It's just a way of saying that it's a goof and/or was necessary for the plot and there's no point arguing about it.

I think it's annoying if people just say it all the time or if it's the only thing they say. I sometimes add "...or the Wizards again" or something to an explanation, just to show that I'm not being entirely serious about my point.

What would we do without our beloved wizards?! I agree it shouldn't be used all the time, but it's just about the funniest inside joke we have.

This is totaly off topic, but are you refering to one of the early designs for the professor? I think that is what it reminds me off, but then again it looks pretty much like 'standard old man #1'

I enjoy using the "Wizards" joke in person, but it gets annoying when people post replies on this board purely consisting of "The wizards did it!".

I voted for it as being good, mainly because it gave me one of my favourite t-shirts  :)

It isn't an inside joke or our own slang.  The phrase is actually pretty common on message boards in general.

I just think it's unfunny and pointless.

Well, it's just like every other thread. If you don't like what's being debated (nitpicking, balony explanations) just don't read/reply in it. Simple as that.

Well, yeah, the wizard joke is funny when used properly. When it's the only thing in the post, it gets annoying, and are ignored.

The wizard joke works, so long as you have contributed something to the discussion beforehand. Simply saying it is not a good idea, you have to be willing to show you are at least a little serious about whatever you're talking about, and willing to help.

Getting rid of the wizards is the equivalent of getting rid of wanking... everybody does it, so who would it really hurt by banning it?

Winna - I don't come on this board to see everyone constantly using that dumb wizard joke, let alone watch people wank.

MrB - Alright, that was a variation of Stewie's "It wasn't right the first time you said it, why the hell would it be right the next 10 times?!" line in A Fish Out Of Water when they were playing Pictionary and the guy who was guessing kept on saying "It's a Jackel!" but the phrase was used many times before it appeared on Family Guy...

In reality I just felt like throwing the word wanking in there  ;)

Nah the wizards is a good joke, unless people just say "the wizards did it, cause I'm a filthy spamwhore"....

And as I said before, in the Futurama world it's the warlocks did it...

It isn't hurting anybody, so why put a stop to it. And banning something like saying 'the wizards did it' is crazy talk anyway.

"How does a scientist know what's true?

"Well, all facts begin as dreams, dreamt by a wizard.  If the wizard crosses the path of a scorned widow, then he shares it at the town council.  Now it is a hypothesis, and it is time to drown the wizard.

"If he floats, he is an evil wizard, and must be burned alive.  If he drowns, then the hypothesis is true!

"The king is told, and he consults with his menagerie of birds.  If the king is satisfied, then it becomes an old-wives tale and science is advanced."

I do not mean to imply the words "a wizard did it" should be banned or whatever from the board.
I do mean that the people who are posting into the topic and their whole reply consists of "a wizard did it" or "also, a wizard did it" are absolutely not worth my time downloading.  and this school has the fastest internet connection i've ever seen.
if someone goes to the trouble of writing out a good explanation for something and appends their little wizard joke (no, not THAT little wizard joke), thats fine.
just we all have the little title under our avatars on the left there, and i wonder how many people have made it to the next level based on a 4 word reply that benefits no one.

I find it incredibly annoying as well.  The point of this forum is to try to come up with a logical explaination for things on the show, and not the boost your post count and annoy people at the same time.

No, I'm not bashing you for using it or anything, I LOVE Family Guy.  I was proud to have caught a slight variation on the quote.  You're right, it's undoubtedly been used before, but now we know what's it's famous for in my mind.

It's a reference to binary code i suppose. Anyway, i've never seen "A wizard did it" too many times, and besides, to keep on record every single post, adapt it to context and then judge it would be too hard i think. Let's just rely on the mods and admins for this one shall we? they're the ones with the final word anyway.
