Hello All,
I just finished watching "Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles" for the second time.
Hokay: Everybody gets 'youth-a-sized' and starts to revert to their younger selves. Biological beings start out as embryos, buds, larva, etc. and grow from there. Their specification changes over time (to borrow a line from ST TNG's Mr. Data)
Machines, on the other hand, are built to a certain specification, and stay that way unless they're upgraded, retrofitted, or whatever. Their specification doesn't change.
Not that I didn't like it; not that I'm complaining, but how can Bender revert to his 'younger' self?
I forget the ep, but we saw Bender at his 'birth' and he was exactly the same as he is now, less whatever he's learned in four years.
Yeah, yeah, I know; the Futurama writers will trade consistancy for a good joke, but it still doesn't make any sense.
I should like to hear your thoughts.

It really doesn't make any sense, but maybe bender's "RNA" alteration has something to do with it.  He was built with spare parts after all.

It's just one of those things you have to accept for the plot and the writers obviously knew it was weird so they threw in that RNA explanation.  It also seemed that the clothes were affected as well, conforming to whatever proportions they needed.

Agreed, the early stages was a nit, but the last to stages was actually based in logic. Afterall, a robot is first a collection of blueprints that's later made into various parts.

For those of you non-biologists, RNA does exist. It's much like DNA, except it's used in the transmission phases. (Correct me if I'm wrong, my Intro Bio teacher kind of skipped genetics.)

Well, noticing as how Bender also looks like the preliminary drawings from Pre-Futurama production... They were showing how he looks in the early stage of the process of elimination.  If you ask me what the hell I'm talking about, I'll tell you I don't know, but the general idea is there.

Maybe he's likr Kryten (not the one on this board but the his namesake from Red Dwarf) and he has a small amount of genetic material in him. After all he does have a human heart, does it matter that it's not his.

Okay, in a rare departure from my usual stance, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Bender's "rejuvenation" was nothing more than a joke -- a silly, senseless, absurdist joke -- with little to no basis in real or imagined science.  Either that or it's the wizard's doing.  It could also be that I'm too tired to give it careful consideration.

I think that's all it is.  We know that Bender has looked the same since he was "born," but it was funny to have him get younger, so they slipped in the "RNA" explanation (which itself was a joke) and went with it.
